FF9 and FF10 might have been strong titles. Those have a lot of fans, and I am partial to them, but FF12 truly was something else. It was a really interesting game. It was a game where I didn't care deeply for any of the characters but I found the overall political plot to to be well done. Great voice acting too. By far the best in the series. I think the characters were the weakest part of FF12.
FF13 is just.. It's like Spectre. Someone greenlit this who didn't understood the consequences of not having a good story. If FF13 had a really good story (like the Witcher 3) it would have been an incredible game. Visually and the combat system is awesome in FF13. I really think FF13 had a good combat system. A very fast paced turn based system.
But the story... It hurts.
I am basing this off 3 short shots, but everything seemed very linear. There was always a path with artificial barriers. I wonder if it just appeared that way or if the game plays that way as well.
I didn't notice anything overly terrible about the FFXIII story, really. Nothing special that I needed to continue on with it in the following two games. But I liked it. Especially the parts with Sazh, since I liked his character more than anything.
The combat system took some getting used to, but once you learned it it was pretty fun.
Yada yada. It was actually a pretty solid game, but it was just over-hyped, and just wasn't what people were expecting going in. Also it dragged on a bit too long at the beginning before the story ramped up to anything even remotely interesting. Definitely don't regret my time playing it, though.
