Alright, What happened.

in Rift
OK so pull back about a year or so ago. Nightmare tide just came out, I have to stop playing because i decided my collage diploma is worth something (Not much of something but still)

So yesterday i decided, hey lets pop back into rift. Alright, Get my warrior back. Warrior Stabs... ok everything is... Why there is there a pay wall. followed by another pay wall. and another pay wall. and this horribly ugly icon shining in my face saying "Get Patron" That i can't get rid of. 

So my question is this How did Rift become a Worst cash shop game then SWTOR.

Because i can.
I'm Hopeful For Every Game, Until the Fan Boys Attack My Games. Then the Knives Come Out.
Logic every gamers worst enemy.

    Trion has "evolved".  Into what, nobody knows for sure, but we're all terrified.

    Nah it was in the Film industry. one that is notorious for "Go here for half a year and hope the movie is done"

    It just seems that Trion is trying to beg for money... i mean a lot. Embarrassingly a lot.

    Because i can.

    Curious to know what collage OP went to, and what the diploma looks like.

    Ahhhh Film Industry... I think that collage is called Half Sail University.

    Yes, Rift when hardcore P2P or sub, not long ago.

    This is too funny! I remember in a live stream where Dagluar was talking about the F2P model and they did not want to give patrons "too much" and that was why they did not want to give people discounts at the cash shop or store credits like some other games. Oddly enough, over time they started to increase the benefits patrons got. Every so often patrons would get extra things like keys and lock boxes.

    Since you said you got out of college you are probably up to your ears in debt. I know the feeling! I would say just get the plat and buy rex from the AH and get what you want that way.

    What pay walls exactly in rift? Never experienced them. The extra souls and calling? do you NEED those? not really.

    Past tense of pay is not payed but paid .....kidding don't kill me had to say that on a diploma thread .

    I was playing Rift back when they introduced MT's for the 1st time. It was still a Sub game. At 1st all you could buy, was some Asian cat mount off the website. Silly me. I defended them for it too. I still remember arguing with @Torval  over that one. LOL. Well, he was right.

    All I can say is........What do you expect now-a-days? This is 2016. MMOs have had the shit monetized out of them. All of them. Well, except one maybe. I think the last  example of a true P2P MMORPG is FFXIV:ARR. Even then, it's not 100%, but, it's as close to it as you are going to see.

    My how we've grown.

    At times i would really like to go back to my beloved Chloromancer and Harb/Necro (is that build still viable?).

    But i just can't go back to Trion.

    I often go back and play MMORPGs I have left like Everquest 1 and 2, City of X (at least ten times) ,DaoC, Anarchy Online and so one but never Rift. I never had the desire to go back. The game truly left hardly an impression on me.

    You thought it was a "horribly ugly icon"? For me, it's barely noticeable; I just don't like when you log out of Rift, and your default browser will pop up offering you to "buy patron".

    Good to know as I haven't been in Rift in 4 yrs and was wondering about the game. I guess I stay away.
