Ah, and it looks like it's going to be F2P for the first 10 levels. No thank you, don't want the spam and don't want to deal with the whiny 13 year olds. If a player can't spend money to buy the game then they don't have any business playing a game like this.
Its a trial. Itll probably have the typical trial limitations as any other game with mail, chatting, etc. As for the business model theyre pretty set on P2P and even seem to dislike cash shops. Obviously theyre not ruling it out but the latest "update" on that is maybe 5-10 years after release and only if its needed to keep paying the bills.
Not exactly a binding contract but its probably about as close as anyone will get to guaranteeing a P2P, cash-shop free game that makes every single non-vendortrash item an obtainable goal in the game. I think FFXIV is the closest to that and those double dipping bastards always supported and planned "cosmetic" cash shops from the beginning.
Problem a lot of gamers have, is when you support a game you expect what you hear now doesn't change in the future.
Take ESO and Matt Firor who told us during beta he would rather shut the game down than go F2P. Granted it went B2P but a lot of us would never have bought or supported the game if this would of been said back then. He also said no store yet that is all the game is now, all about the store. No bug fixes just sales and DLC's.
The industry has a serious problem and it will get worse for Kickstarter/crowdfunding once Star Citizen goes into data heaven. It may take years for gamers to start trusting developers again. But right now forget it!
I genuinely believe they will release the game within the next 2-4 years, heck maybe even sooner with some luck. I also have a strong, but cautious confidence that the game will be of quality with tolerable bugs. To me it seems Brad has assembled a very dedicated team and he himself seems to have learned from previous experiences. IMO as an outsider looking into VR it appears they have a solid structure.
With that being said I've become a pessimist in my older years and will be holding out until we see a bit more convincing for my taste. My hopes are high though and can't wait to play an updated group oriented mmo again.
why do I get the strong feeling that the motovations of the OP isnt being completely forthright?
If youre implying im some planted employee trying to convince others to pay a chunk of their paycheck youre wrong. Just a gamer who misses the days when MMO's werent challenge free VR department stores. Yeah id like to see Pantheon at least make it to release and have the best chance possible, but even I have my reservations about the games likelihood and Brad himself. Hence the thread.

no it was my fault I thought this was in a Star Citizen thread which only has trolls in it. so that was my mistake
Please do not respond to me, even if I ask you a question, its rhetorical.
The only problem with "wait and see", is that we've reached the point where its obvious that no big money Studio has the desire or the understanding of how to make an MMO like those we experienced in this genre's infancy. Those modern gamers who are happy with the current state of affairs, I completely understand your reasoning. For the rest of you, I can't help but doubt your love for this kind of game if you haven't gone out and backed something that sounds like a game you would play - be it Pantheon or any other indie title.
If someone doesn't put their money where their mouth is now, chances are we'll still be seeing WoW and Destiny clones 20 years from now.
This has nothing to do with what you're saying. It has to do with a not so trustworthy developer who's game might never see the light of day asking for money for promises. Most people who have been playing this genre for a long time know better. And many (including myself) will never give one penny to a game in development. If it it launchs, and it turns out to be a good mmo. I'm sure some of us will buy into it. But not intill we see a final product.
Disagree. WoW clones are no more. None even on the horizon so not sure where you are coming up with 20 more years. In fact can't even think of one that has been made now in some time (Rift the last one?). Making games has always been "wait and see". Why should we fund this stuff? MMORPG's seem to be the only genre constantly getting fleeced. Let them make it and if it reviews good then we will buy it. Don't forget the Kickstarter for this game failed MISERABLY like 2 years ago. I get it, you have the game in your sig and you love it to death but my god...
If you really believe the MMOs that have been coming out up to and including this year, since RIFT, are not derivatives of WoW and the casual paradigm, I think you need your lookers checked.
PS. Pantheon kickstarter failed because they had little to show, were totally unprepared, and next to no one even knew it existed. I didn't even know about the game at that point... and yet it made almost half a million towards an 800k goal. I think you should also reconsider what a kickstarter failing miserably looks like.
It's hard to take anything you say seriously. It's obvious you are a huge fan of this game and it can do no wrong. But you won't convince many people when your huge Pantheon signature pops up with each post. You will never be objective to this game. So everyone should take anything you say with a grain of salt.
To get money from me?sell shares. If you want us to fund your game then guess what i also want something in return, there is no such thing as FREE money where i come from.Ask your boss if you can get some free money, see what he says.
Sell shares so our money has meaning,we invest money, you invest time but we are BOTH as important as the other,no money no game,no team no game ,so there you go ,it is a team effort, sell those shares in the business.
Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.
I pledged. I like what I see and have disposable income so would like to see this project pan out with whatever I can to help. There is nothing wrong with being generous enough to help a project you're interested in come to fruition. I like both new and old style MMORPGs, so if they can pull this off I will get the best of both worlds.

I love the fact that my signature offends so many people.
I mean, I even went as far as to say, support SOMETHING, not necessarily Pantheon, if the game stands to offer an experience you truly miss that is no longer available. As I said, its pretty clear at this point that short of a miracle, most likely fostered by fans, we aren't going to see the MMO many of us want to play ever again; That saddens me.
The difference between me and many of you, is obviously that it means more to me to play an MMORPG again. That's fine, we all have our interests, hobbys, things we like or even love. I'm willing to look past the shortcomings of companies and developers and part with a few of my hard earned dollars because I remember how much fun MMOs used to be, and simply hope that maybe - just maybe - we could experience them again.
I'm comfortable with the idea that a game not happening because I didn't pledge $30-$100, if that's how razor thin the difference between success and failure is, the game probably wouldn't make it anyway.
I dont think youre grasping the point behind crowd funding. Its like voting, one contribution is next to meaningless, but many meaningless contributions can make a difference. Not that im trying to convince anyone as there are many valid reasons for not feeling comfortable giving money away to this particular team. However saying it wont make it anyway if it cant survive without your particular contribution is the same logic that kills potentially great projects.
The quote was in the context that I didn't find that they did enough for me to give them money in the first place. Also, I am well aware of the psychology behind crowd funding, your small contribution is important. My response to that is, run a better campaign next time.
As for your original question in the thread, I need a serious estimation of the release date, the cost of the project and a scope that fits the budget. Crowfall had enough info on those aspects to make me willing to fund the game, sadly that game lacks healers.
Iselin: And the next person who says "but it's a business, they need to make money" can just go fuck yourself.

Bingo! Or set the company up as a tax deductible charity. Otherwise I'll be waiting for a tangible product.
For me it would take a completely different combat system. I'm just burnt out on tab-target. While I'm sure the story will be interesting and the world very immersive, I just can't see myself pledging money to something I'll likely only play for a month or two. Will I play at release? Likely, but I wouldn't bet on it either.
Biggest problem here is having smed's name involved. Good or bad people are only going to see the bad with Smed involved. Sad really because I loved what he created for us many many moons before. You should have never listed his name associated with the game. At least then you would of had a shot.
I hope the game gets made and I hope it is great. I pray it is so great it helps clear smeds name with gamers. Good luck!
I don't buy into Kickstarter or crowd-funding games. I want a playable product with no wipes before I will contribute my money. I would prefer a demo or trial period for MMOs so I can get a better idea if it is my type of game before I pay anything. I'm not going to drop $100 on a "promise" of a game being completed, or take the risk that the game will develop into something I'm not interested in playing.
Get it close to finished. Let me play an open beta. Then, we'll see if I spend money on it.
Would have to be a money-back guarantee up to 1 week after official release, no questions asked. That would show me they're confident they will deliver a product I will enjoy.
Biggest problem here is having smed's name involved.
Smed is not involved. So far as I know.
Smedley isn't involved in any way whatsoever. Brad McQuaid is the big name involved with Pantheon. Brenics may have already known that and just mixed the names up, however, since they have had alot of interaction with each other through EQ, VG, and SOE.

" Don't listen to anyone who tells you that you can't play this or that. That's nonsense. Make up your mind, and you'll never whine or repent about gaming hours anymore, then have a go at every Game. Open up the Internet, join in all the Mmorpgs you can. Go make the Guild. But never, never let them persuade you that things are too difficult or impossible. "
I am just tired of promises. All I have seen for the past two or more years are a lot hype and promises from developers and no MMORPGs worth anything being released. I want a return to the old days where a game was not hyped until it was closer to being released. I can deal with waiting for a game for a few months, however waiting years for a game is unreasonable and I generally forget about them.
That's largely where I stand. We've yet to see one of these "big" indie MMOs actually make it to release.
We've been hearing about them for a few years now, but until something actually launches, it's all just theory. I, too, miss the days of not hearing about games until a few months before their release date. I make it a point to not follow any games too closely these last several years; I know they won't be out for ages yet when we learn of them.
