Onyxia, Molten Core, Blackrock, southshore, no LFD no LFR no cross server anything, no battlegrounds, and actual world pvp. IMHO vanilla was the best, TBC was awesome flying was cool, Lich King had some amazing stuff, then it went downhill fast and I stopped playing...
I would love to play vanilla wow again but don't want to play on a private server.

Personally enjoyed Cataclysm the most, but I like dragons so...and the deathwing world event thing was hella fun. Nothing like getting randomly burned alive while leveling.
I enjoyed Wrath the most as an expansion. But for me personally TBC was a real let down. It forever took the game direction away from being a pure MMORPG.
I came in kinda late in Burning Crusade, so I guess I'm a bit biased towards Wrath of the Lich King since I completed all of that content. Of the content I experienced in BC though, it was pretty fun.
Lol i voted catactlysm on accident, the only vote it will get xD.
That's probably the worst expansion ... I mean, not counting Warlords of Draenor. The game began to implode during Cataclysm and hasn't ever fully recovered from the terrible decisions made during that era.
Agreed. So many things went wrong with Cata.
WotLK was my favorite WoW expansion. Completely fell in love with the DK as a class, it fit my need for a battlemage of sorts. Culmination of 10 years worth of lore that started in WC3. Finally getting to face the Lich King. Despite the flaws, the Argent Tourney raid was actually an interesting change of pace. Ulduar is still probably my most favorite raid of all time.
For me, WoW is the ole standby game. Something I know I'll enjoy in doses.
Going to have to go with BC as it's only expansion that I feel actually made the game better while maintaining the gameplay, challenge, customisation, community aspects, etc. that made WoW good. BC patches were the beginning of the end for me.
Here is why I say TBC. WOTLK for me was the end of WOW. In WOTLK you no longer needed CC, you just grouped up the mobs, sometimes several mobs at 1 time and AOEd them down. Then they added LFD, this is where WOW became so Anti Social it was not funny and then add in Gear Score. Then add in here is where classes started to become homogenized, All the tanks tanked in the same fashion, all healers healed the same way, no longer did you have Warlocks and shadow Priest who could together pull massive amounts of damage because each others buffs. Add to all of this players forgot how to play together. By the time people got into raiding they wanted to just pull pull pull like they did in dungeons leveling up. It made players very bad. WOW didnt have problems until WOTLK.
Though I will say this. WOTLK did have some good raid content. Naxx and ICC were great. My problem is that the leveling process was dumbed down so much that players forgot how to play their class and cared only to min max their damage.

I agree that TBC maintained gameplay challenge and community. WOTLK is where WOW changed too much towards a single player lobby game. Not saying WOTLK didnt have good content like Naxx and ICC, the problem is WOTLK moved from know your class to Min Max your DPS and Heals and AOE tanking.

My favorite was Cataclysm, early Cataclysm to be specific. Peak of it's difficulty and the hardmodes were amazing. Granted I played tank/healer. I suppose it may have been different for controllers and dps.
While I enjoyed Vanilla and Burning Crusade, let's be honest, it's nostalgia. The raids were fun, but too many of nights waiting with only 25 people and having to fill in with other guilds and their alts. And really a lack of fun mechanics that were simplistic looking back. At it's time though, there wasn't much to compare.
I loved WOTLK. My main is a DK ever since the release of the class. Plus in that expansion I raided actively and was in one of the top two guilds on my server and raiding with them. It was super nice. The content was fun, the pvp was fun, the pve was fun, everything about the expansion was fun. I love snow areas in games, and that's the core setting of ICC.
i liked tbc simply the excitement of getting the first expansion i could have wet myself even though it was fairly average. i didnt play wotlk till i returned much later.
I'm surprised WotLK is winning since that's when things really started to go down hill. TBC was the best expansion for me no doubt - but it still didn't beat the original.
Could there be a large amount of voters that started their WoW-career during WotLK?

I do think a lot of people started at the end of TBC and in WOTLK. I will say WOTLK had good content in the way of Naxx 2.0 because it was a good learning raid for new raids. The problem is AOE Fest instances made people min max damage and their stats and skills went out the window.

I agree Naxx 2.0 was fun. The only problem i have with it was that it went from a mythical old high-end super hard raid to a fairly easy entry-level raid. Kind of took the coolness out of it. I would have rather seen it in place of Trail of the Crusader to warm up for Icecrown.

WoW started to go downhill in the last patch of wotlk when they added the last instance ruby sanctum and the dungeon finder. Up until then wotlk had one of the most enjoyable and competatible PvP wow ever had. TBC suffered from disbalances from some classes when it comes to PvP but the game overall felt like a great package then and vanilla lacked the arena plus vanila was also not very balanced i dont know if anyone here ever remembers watching Kishkumen. He clearified that in vanilla it was clear Warrior>Rogue>All>=Warrior. While in TBC some classes like sl/sl warlock would be kings in surviving and winning the fight i like remember that i had to pop a 30 min cd (recklessness) as warrior to kill a sl/sl warlock. Rogues could stun for too long and such. Wotlk had higher balance you could gear in combination with pve and pvp and be able to beat different classes with different gear compositions. Speaking as a hardcore pvp players here. I've done some great PvE achievements aswell and i think again that wotlk was the pinnacle. Nothing beats for me the feelings of doing Ulduar or the fight against the Lich king. I did in TBC alot of kael'thalas and lady vashj, some karazhan and black temple, and while they were great in wotlk more and cooler mechanics have been added for sure. I dont know nor care how is wows state in PvE after wotlk, it could be good my main thing was PvP and some PvE for chill or fun with the guild (which were kind of hardcore on it) but PvP wise after wotlk it went really downhill. Not to mention the game was ugly as fuk after wotlk, bad gear designs. Flying everywhere quing everywhere. It's probably hell with WoD when there's that farmvile and people literally dont move anymore.

I agree with that. It did go from a hard raid to an entry level raid. What I am saying is it did a good job of training people how to raid. Kara also did a good job of that too. I do think WOW does need that kind of entire level raid where people can learn how to raid without being super punishing. If you went from Kara into ZA you learned that you needed to be on your toes more in ZA than in Kara but Kara laid the foundation for that.

While I agree WOTLK had good PVP. I will not argue that. But I think WOW started downhill when WOTLK drop with PVE. The First instances I did in WOTLK you could pull 1 to 2 groups and AOE them down. That killed a lot of skill players built up for 4 years of WOW. The lack of CC requirement and speed run mentality came in to WOW then. The Instances looked great but the way they played started to kill WOW.
As for Class balance in PVP. I hate to say it but in an MMORPG each class should have a weakness and a strength. I am not sorry that a Mage if caught by a Rogue will get his ass handed to him. It's a RPG which requires that, its not a FPS where everyone is the same, a shot to the head from any role and you are dead. Now do I think that some of the PVP skills could have had some counter balance? Yep, but if me playing a hunter is sitting guarding the flag in Warsong and a rogue sneaks up and stunlocks me I am dead. I am dead because I didnt use my skills to watch for a stealth player. That is my fall not the fault of the developers to let me do everything. Now the gear combinations do work however you shouldnt be able to do everything on 1 class. You could cover a weakness but never get rid of it.
I am not saying that some good things came in during WOTLK I am saying that certain things were taken way too far that killed WOW.
For me TBC was the best. After TBC Vanilla takes the cake for me. In WoTLK, specially towards the end, things started going down hill in order to get the Kim Kardashian generation.

The new specialisation system is far more restrictive and all the classes have very similar, toned down, abilities.
When this happened, WoW went from 'Warcrack' to boring.
