Can anyone provide a summary of exactly what is the big problem here. Not into reddit and all those other sites and the 1 link I did follow had a link to pictures of a newsreader and a link to fun facts about spiders...not enough time or desire to dig any deeper myself.
It's been so nice to read your seven posts in this thread, only now realizing you haven't even tried to educate yourself of the content on which the thread is based. You're a real contributor and a hero. Thank you so much for your insight.
Yeah sorry, I don't trowel through sites I don't trust and so was following the conversation. I didn't see anything in the link I did follow so just want to check if anyone actually HAS checked to see what all the fuss is about.

As for educating myself...I thoguht that was exactly what I just tried to do.....

For the record, I was NOT the one who found the website. A Goon noticed it after Ben posted about it in his Twitter feed.

Then the Goon noticed that it was searchable.

    It blew up from there.

The TOXICITY of the Star Citizen community is a direct reflection of the people who run it and those who run this project as leads. That's all there is to it.

You know what, I am already 5K words into a blog that I am writing because the missive I wrote over here, and which lists all the worst ones, isn't going to cut it.

ps: No, this has NOTHING to do with the on-going Star Citizen E.L.E that's already in progress. That's coming to a head sooner than most think or realize.

To be fair that was in reference to this specific subsite: http://hamtwoslices.net/spiders.htm

I have not read that specific page line for line, but that seems pretty harmless, and even moderately funny...

Come on guys. You are trying to spin this just a tad to hard. I certainly hope this was not the ELE. That would be VERY disappointing with sad on top.

3: I did not say anything about freedom of speech in regards to the Constitution . I said that we are defending his right to not be fired for something he said 10+ years ago when he was not a employee of CIG. What you and your ilk find unacceptable many will not agree with.
That never matters... it doesn't matter when he said it when it comes to this kind of thing, few companies are going to support an employee under such circumstances, especially when that person is in a position of community relation. They don't want that person to be guilty of every "ism" in the books, as well as to have a written document of those "isms" on public display while still inviting folks to "come read"... That's just bad for business. Especially when considering the public stance on such things in 2016.
    Quoted for unfortunate truth. :(

I can/will still stand up for him. I hope more will do the same.
Considering this is his self proclaimed "diary"... I'd very much defend him if within he acknowledged his poor choices when starting such a a diary/journal. It's hard to defend him when he only acknowledges it as wrong when it comes out in such a manner.
I really don't think you can call it his diary. Diary's by definition are a private journal not meant for public consumption. This was posted on Livejournal at the time IIRC. So it is just an attempt at crass humor.

EDIT: Actually he does say it started out as a personal diary. That still doesn't mean it's an account of his inner demons and what he wants to do IRL.  Well he is stupid as fuck for leaving this up after he got "internet famous" but that isn't a good reason to fire him. It is a reason unfortunately, just not a good one.
Yeah i found this last night when Brenics made a comment in the 15 dollar thread, I figured I'd search for what he was referring to as "damaging" that came to light, didn't take long. It was the top new post on Redit. Which is where I saw him calling it his diary in his response to it..

I figured there would be a thread on it here by morning.

Anyway, I don't know... I don't really see this as a bad reason to fire someone, nor do i think it's sinister to bring to light. ANd regardless of whether they're just "jokes" or his true thoughts, they're stupid things to say especially in a public manner.

I get it in this day and age there's too much PC nonsense, so in that regard there are a lot of people who have just dropped any thought on holding people responsible for the things they say. I'm against a lot of the PC nonsense as well. Yet on matters such as this, there's no exaggeration, there's no question, there's no innuendo, the statements are clear, their meaning is clear, they're not funny, they're not cute, they're just dumb, and at times disgusting. Hence it's rather hard to defend them, or brush them off as being young and dumb. In the crowd I grew up around if someone said some crap like that, they'd be hurting afterward joking or not.

In lack of any substantial data against the project itself CIG's people will have their lives scrutinized and then paraded on reddit, blogs and mmorpg ?

And people are okay with this ?

Aisian games get off on this kind of stuff all the time which is why I don't like them. I mean what were those characters in AA that were basically little girls in mini skirts and suspenders...

Not sure people have ever got into trouble writing stuff like this....I mean Game Of Thrones would be in bad shape if he was held to task for everything he wrote.

Interesting... well let me offer you this scenario and tell me what you would do.

You have kids and are dropping them off at daycare. One if the caregivers is 25 Years's old. You overhear him describing a sexual situation with a 10 year old girl cartoon character.

Do you still leave your kids in this person's care?

If that were the question, we wouldn't be having this conversation, but a different one about someone in prison.

You're back to "what is protected" vs "what is acceptable" again. I don't feel it's acceptable for mid 20s men to make sexual innuendo about anthropomorphized 10 year old anything. Does he have a right to think it and write about it? Sure. Is it funny or something to which everyone should just relate? No. No... I don't think that's a presentable case at all. I think you just get a buzzer sound and should type about something else.

Yet doesn't it still show signs of depravity? To even find such statements as a go to line for comedy or satire? Most "shock" artists don't even take things that far, for a reason. They're not truly sick and callous enough to cross those lines as they're sane enough to see those lines.

If he's Asian? Sure! =) Different cultures right?

If my kid is a 10 year old cartoon character? Nope!

In all honesty I would be hesitant to do so. But running a day care and being a CM for a school are different situations.
