Great. You can all expect more shallow f2p grinder MMOs for the foreseeable future.

Just proves again how NC Soft is the best.

That horrible game made that much money?

Can only wonder what it would've been like if it came out, y'know, 4-5 years ago.

Black Desert was just about as profitable and marginally better; both games are just grind grind grind with little depth.

    Sad state of MMORPGs.

....professional baseball team contracts?  Wow, Koreans always have the zaniest MMO promotions/events sometimes (which depending on your point of view can be stupid or awesome)

    Gotta love Asian Zaniness.

As for the OP, it's good news.  I'm sure the next report will be just as good if not better since people are losing their shit over the new gambling boxes.

Unfortunately the game itself is in a pretty bad state.  Hackers are on top of the leaderboards in PVP, bots are still abundant, and those RNG boxes I mentioned has really messed with the economy.

New content comes next week, which is cool but NcSoft really has to address the hackers in PVP if nothing else.  They are apparently banning them but there may just be too many to deal with.

Competitive equalized pvp is the main draw of this game.  Hacking can't be tolerated.

I have a feeling they're looking at the problems in a long term perspective.  They want to get us caught up to Korea and China, then they will deal with the hackers/bots and hopefully promote Arena as an e-sport.

Unfortunately that's still a ways away and I'm afraid it's going to lose a lot of PVPers by then.  They may feel they can make them back with the big tournament at the end of the year, but that doesn't help people playing the game right now.

The pace at which we're getting content is almost too fast.  Some are complaining they can't enjoy the gear they earn because it quickly becomes substandard within a few weeks with new content.

Don't get me wrong.  Still having a blast with the game and it's the best MMO to come out in many years imo, but it has some pretty serious problems atm.

Nothing to do with how shallow or involved a game is.

SWTOR was sub based - so not shallow - but went f2p - so must have become shallow overnight? Lineage had a sub in the west - so not shallow - but not in other markets. Hmmm - same game so shallow or not? GW2 isn't f2p using the accepted definition but if its shallow so is TESO maybe - same model now - and it had a sub to boot so how could it have been shallow by your logic. Ditto Destiny, The Division, SW BF etc.

Bottonline: there are good games and bad games; and the bisiness model isn't a good guide to what is what.

Uh huh.  Well give me the best combat system an MMO has ever had (I have so much fun on my KFM I find myself just killing mobs for the fun of it as I'm walking around), decent PVE with tons to do at endgame, and groundbreaking e-sport worthy equalized PVP and I'll take it.

You can keep waiting for your deep and complex MMO that will never come.  Meanwhile I've had 3 months of fun in BnS with no sign of stopping any time soon.

Oh and by the way, BnS is a sub game in Korea.  It probably would've been better to release it here as a sub, too.  But they wanted that f2p cash.

Well, everyone is still waiting for this savior of yours to rise from the sea of mmos and provide us all with salvation!

We've been waiting for what now.... More then 10 years. Yeah, it's not coming buddy. It's probably time for you to get with the times or start looking for a new hobby.

For whatever reason, the game has no hype.  If you were to judge how it was doing based on this forum, for example, you'd probably assume it made no money whatsoever.

Anyway, I still think it's pretty good.  The game is 3 1/2 years old afterall.  What hype it had in the West has long since passed.

I am hoping things pick up as it heads towards the international tournament at the end of the year.

I like how people in this thread took a report that had the words "we believe" and "we estimate" as factual evidence that it must be true. . .

. . .Until NCSoft releases their official earning statements its all just conjecture, not fact.

Tera was said to of made over a hundred million last year, now they are laying off staff.

I know you want to hate on the game, but keep in mind this is 1 quarter for just two regions (I assume it includes EU even though they just say "US").  The game is also released in China, Russia, Taiwan, Japan, and of course Korea.

They made so much yet, they refuse to use any to fix the game instead they hawk their forums, stream and rededit to ban and remove. If they really werre trying to do anything  Why the ban.. I guess we know truth now.

Don't let analysts and spokesmen fool you, their job is to manipulate people and value. The same goes for stocks, almost nothing can be taken for face  value, even inside public release of information is usually not FACTUAL information but what they call perception of value. There is actually a term for it "i forget".
For some reason even with laws in place to try and curb illegal activity, businesses are still allowed to move numbers around from quarter to quarter to manipulate facts.

Bottom line is nobody should trust anything, use your own judgment, pay attention,if things seem bleak, they likely are and if things seem too good to be true, they likely are.

NOBODY should ever assume they KNOW what a person over the internet is thinking, this site is also guilty of that,it stems from the word ASSUME.don't make an 'ass" out of yo"u" and "me".Again i should repeat,do not trust ANY numbers ,unless you actually work in that businesses accounting department.

My gut feeling is that if a development feels the NEED to report numbers rather than talk about the game itself, their agenda is bad and not of good intentions. The first order of business when trying to sell a product would be to describe the product ,NOT the sales numbers.

Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.

I played this for awhile. Its not a bad game and had  fun.  It just wasn't a game that could keep my interest for more than a week or two.  I am one of those weird finicky people.  The population was pretty good though.

Combat system is questionable.  I think Tera does combat better from an action standpoint. BnS abilities can't really miss, you can make a macro and be the best you can be.

As for everything else BnS offers, it took WoWs model and made it worse.
That's very debatable.  Tera doesn't offer much in the way of blocking.  Nearly every class has a block in BnS.  Also way more dodges and everyone has at least one CC break.  All around way more counterplay in PVP.  It's been awhile but I don't think TERA has any stealth mechanics either.

A macro (which are against the rules) will make you output dps optimally, but you'd never get a chance to dish out that dps against an experienced player.

You can (and they have) do a legit e-sport with BnS.  You couldn't do it with TERA because there isn't much counterplay.

In PVE, sure TERA is better.  Bosses in TERA are actually challenging sometimes.

Keep in mind I'm no longer playing the game nor would I recommend it since it's clear now that NcSoft is just out for a quick buck.  Nonetheless, there is little room for argument that the combat system is steller and offers the most skill-intensive pvp experience in any MMO to date.  It's just a shame their squandering that.

Judging by the latest money-grabbing updates, whatever amount B&S made before was clearly not enough for them.  Then again, when it comes to greedy business companies, no amount ever is.

Blade and Soul doesn't feel like an MMO though. It is a lobby fighter game pretending to be an MMO. The thing about Blade and Soul combat that is different from any other MMO, is the combo system. Blade and Souls for most people plays almost just like WoW does, just with ani canceling and dodge mechanics.

It isn't a bad game, it just is more a fighting game than a MMO. The only aspect of the game where its combat shines brightest is 1v1 PvP.
It's more instanced than most.  Felt to me like a streamlined version of WoW.  There are pluses and minuses to that but it definitely felt like an MMO to me.  Not much open world stuff but I was doing stuff with/against people more often than I do in most MMOs.

As for your combat remarks, I don't really follow what you're trying to say.  It's like WoW and it's like a fighter?  Those two don't seem very similar to me.

Not sure how long you played BnS but it doesn't seem very long to be honest.

All I spent on this game was left over NCOIN from my Aion days on a founder pack, not sure if they count that or not, but I kinda regret spending those old NCOIN, I could have saved them for... something....else? *shrugs*
  • observerobserver Member RarePosts: 3,685
I played that game for 2-3 days.  It was worse than i thought.  The UI and combat were atrocious.  The story was just bad and disjointed.  Tera's combat is far superior too.  Both their UI's suck though.

GW2 looks like it's dropping also.  It's probably due to the HoT hype dying out.  http://i.imgur.com/QEp8Y9o.png

Actually 17m is very low in my opinion. I guarantee they were expecting a much higher revenue. I think the game is headed for a major decline in NA. I played it and enjoyed it but I don't currently play it anymore. Game felt a little repetitive and boring in the end game for me.

I stuck with this one longer than any other release in the last few years.  I really enjoyed playing the KFM and the challenge of soloing dungeon content.  I typically do not like action combat but this one did it for me.  I loved the style, I just wish the female costumes came with pants...

Unfortunately PVP was dominated by animation cancel tactics that were reminiscent of the Chivalry dragging.  The gear grind also went from steady progression to a sudden wall where materials cost 10x what they did the level prior.

The total revenue for B&S in the first quarter was 54 billion korean won (not including royalties), 20 billion is estimated from west release.
