Surprised ToS doesn't have more buzz

To me this is a good balance between oldschool and quality of life themepark. The amount of stuff to do is mind boggling and the game plays very smooth as long as you aren't in town lol. It's a good game with a few poor gameplay decisions but i've already put more hours into it than any other game since vanilla WoW. It's also packed with tons of JRPG nostalgia. Many songs/sounds/models/animations remind me of games like Valkyrie Profile, Chrono Trigger & Star Ocean. It's not P2W unless you consider a subscription P2W, I don't.

The main concern I have is F2P ruining the game, it's already overrun with gold sellers and once you can 5 box for free it may kill off group play. They should keep the $10 buy in 100%. Btw if you're on the fence just buy it now, the newbie zones will be unplayable at least a week into F2P and you get free cash shop TP included with early access anyways.

I'm lv 110 (out of 260?) atm and haven't tried PvP yet but so far I'd give ToS a solid 8/10.

A zergfest but more importantly it's way better than soloing. In fact grouping from level 1 on is beneficial and way funner. The game has one of the best LFG systems i've seen.

It's tempting. I don't much like isometric games though.
Now Playing: Bless / Summoners War
Looking forward to: Crowfall / Lost Ark / Black Desert Mobile

Yeah you can't turn the screen either which is really weird considering the game is more 3D than most, seems like they could've easily added that. Plays a lot like a Diablo MMO with better grouping.

the game is good , but if u dont know how it works u are gonna hit some grind-walls...and that can frustrate the hell out of u .... u can mess so many thing , stats , skills choices , class (all the classes are good , but come on we all know some are way better like always) ....

it will be f2p in 1 week~ so give it a chance :chuffed:

game is far from "good". repetitive, yes. grindy, definitely. good? it's a mind numbingly simplistic design.  yes, i enjoyed ragnarok online, but that was 10+ years ago.

Perhaps it is intentional design for its target group?

dont they charge you per month to be able to trade with other players and sell on the AH or something? And not even unlimited, I think its a number of times. Could be wrong though

Er...its the character models.  i abhor the style used in this game, and anytime I see character avatars wearing "rabbit ears" I know it's not to be taken seriously and one to avoid.

The problem with anime MMOs is that they look like they are made for children and it is hard to take them seriously.
  • ThebeastttThebeasttt Member RarePosts: 1,130
Pretty much every MMO these days allow players to wear ridiculous costumes full time so i've just learned to accept it as one of the many sad trends in MMO gaming.

If you think anime are made for children then you are living under rocks. Cartoon are for children, Anime is for young adults like teenagers and up.

Face value matters a LOT when trying to sell something. If your game looks cheap then the assumption is you put that same cheap effort into every system in your game.
The market is flooded ridiculously for a reason, obviously way too easy for hundreds of Indie developers to make 1990 looking games,we see them popping up everywhere...ahem Stardew for example.
Personally i don't want to see cheap remakes of 1990 gaming,if i want to play a 1990's games i already have several MUCH better offerings.

So i have my 1990's library,i have my 2000 library, now in 2016 i am looking for a new decade of much better games.

Dismissing games out of hand simply for not having cutting edge graphics shows just how shallow you are.

Tree of Savior does NOT look like a game from 1990, not even close. I don't know what you're smoking which makes you come to that conclusion, but I guess it doesn't matter. You're wrong. Period.

Stardew Valley has a nice retro look to it. The reason for that being that the game was created by one person. Retro graphics are much less time consuming to create than cutting edge, and allows this and other small developers to focus on important things, like gameplay. Which for Stardew Valley, is excellent. But I guess you'll never know that, will you? It's okay. The game's community doesn't need toxic and shallow people such as yourself.

Only if they use tab targeting (the high ping kill my motivation) . And they used too many level penalty that force player to follow they lead .

Priest are ****ing OP that half of PVP top ranks are priest class (next is magic classes) , only 2 or 3 warrior and 1-2 archer on top 50 ranking .

Quests run out in half way and instance dungeon kill the reason to go out and hunt monster outside ( most players on Korea server run daily for exp and don't go field map , cause the risk too high compare to the reward) . The daily is heavy at the end of game (currently level 280 ?)

Report from Korea server (which maybe wrong) .

In the end, the only thing to really do in the game is build up your character, even if there are multiple things you can do about that (levelling up, aquiring and upgrading equipment, upgrading skills with silver, and finishing collections for the stat boosts.)   Of course, the vast majority of the aspects of building up your character that you can pursue are based around killing monsters (levelling), killing more monsters (acquiring and upgrading equipment), killing more monsters (getting silver to upgrade your skills), and killing more monsters (getting items to finish your collections for stat boosts)

Maybe people don't talk about the game much because it's a game about killing monsters and... um... that's about it.

Yea, I know you THINK most other games are like that, but other games tend to have things like pvp castle sieges, a crafting system that's actually functional, a pvp system that's remotely balanced, instanced housing, sailing on ships, and raids.

(yea, Tree of Savior doesn't even really have raids for the most part.  The end game content is a 5-man dungeon.... which is mostly just killing more monsters in a party like usual except those monsters are somewhat harder.  Not really what most people consider a raid)

So I guess when I say "It's a game about killing monsters", I mean "It's a DIABLO game about killing monsters", as opposed to most other MMORPGs about killing monsters (which is even more monster killing-ish than theme park MMOs are monster-killing ish)

Truthfully, Tree of Savior is really just a bright-colored Diablo game.  There just isn't much to talk about it in the  grand scheme of things related to the MMO industry.  (of course, if you want to talk about its flaws as a Diablo game, there are plenty of rather glaring ones.  This post and its first reply are a good example.  https://forum.treeofsavior.com/t/things-need-to-be-fixed-or-changed-summary/213796 )

Ummmm building up a character is why you play this game. Personally I rather have too much progression than too little, aka GW2. If you are going into this game expecting next gen graphics or a free maxxed out character the problem is you, not ToS.

You say Diablo game like it's a bad thing. That game has a bigger fanbase than 95% of MMO's, most people actually enjoy killing stuff....go figure. And please enlighten us as to all these MMO's with balanced PvP, I'd love to know. BDO, TESO, Wildstar? Don't make me laugh.

I say "just a Diablo game" in the context that there isn't much to talk about it.

That is all.  I actually like Diablo games.  But when it comes to discussing them, there isn't much to discuss on a general MMORPG forum.

I never said any game had EVERYTHING in the list.  Some games have some of the things like housing, other games have other things like balanced PvP, and other games have other things like raids.  No game has all of them, but many games have some of them.

Tree of Savior however, doesn't.  Which is why no one is talking about it here.  There just isn't much to talk about for the game on a general MMORPG forum.  It's a game where you kill monsters and there's not much to discuss about it beyond that on these forums.  It's not about whether or not Tree of Savior makes killing monsters fun.  It's about whether or not there's anything to talk about the game on a general MMO forum.  At most for these forums, you come in, say "It's fun and fast-paced, I like the graphics and music" and... that's it.

Even the cash shop is too small to be worth commenting on (initially, some people commented on the high cosmetic prices but that's yesterday's news by now and BDO has higher prices, anyways.  ...ditto for the trading restrictions, amusingly enough).

(of course, on its own forums, you can discuss skill builds, optimal items for your character, best levelling spots, etc, but those things are generally not what threads are created for on these forums, which instead tend to be about who most MMOs relate to each other and the industry rather than game-specific strategies)

I wouldn't recommend ToS as your main MMO but it is so fun to play that I'm using it as a break from playing others MMO (currently Blade and Soul). It's easy to just jump in play 2-3 hour and leave it for the next few days when you again want to hop in and kill some stuff and do some quest. I like that pacing for a game and it makes it great MMO for people who don't have time to play and just want to relax in front of a computer. Don't take it seriously as you don't have to. Just play and have fun doing it.

You just sit there and wait for respawn and then use your skill which requires mana and you go through more pots than you can afford unless you are with a farming party.

This isn't a signature, you just think it is.

Amazing game. The best mmo I've played and I have played tons including wow. Make sure to plan your stats and class builds for pve or pvp before leveling or you will have to reroll. They don't have class and stat reset potions right now but I hear they will add them in the future :)

The game makes both my computers generate a loud grinding sound after playing it. I thought it was my old computer but then recently got a much better one and it does the same thing. I'm not sure if it's poorly optimized or what but the games that do the same thing are Marvel Heroes and Kings & Heroes. The sound ToS makes my computer make is much louder and grindier than the others though.

That sounds like a problem with your computer, not a problem with the game.

I do not believe one single developer aims for a market, they aim for as many people as they can get.

Devs aim for a budget to achieve what ever genre they decide they can handle.

You want or like old school feel with that JRPG feel as well, nothing comes close to FFXI.It is based off of the FF3 game but with far more depth than any of the other mmorpg's.I play FFXi totally free,i wouldn't drop it for any other game on the market, even if those were free.
