Potential new player here, but this was linked on Reddit while I was doing research for the game. [mod edit] I managed to find a bunch of stuff claiming to be BDO hacks. Dowloading and scanning them shows they are clean and not a virus.
So I want to ask, how widespread is hacking in this game? Is it as bad as it was in ESO? I won't reward Daum with any money if I am walking into a game that forces PvP on you, only to leave you defenseless against hackers.
Yes. After being burned by ESO and AA, I don't want to waste any more of my time. Better to do some research before hand than to waste months on something that you can never compete in unless you abuse bugs, cheat, hack, and steal
Anyway I found my answer and will be checking into another game. Going to research WildStar next.
Hacking seems to be not as widespread as some would make it out to be; although no one is sure how much goes unreported and how widespread it may become in the future. Is it an issue? yes it is. Are they fixing it? I'm sure it's being looked at. Can it be fixed? No one knows outside of Daum and PA.
The last game I played that had so many client side things would have to be Magestorm back in 99. You could use Gamehack to edit the values and give yourself infinite Mana and if you paid attention no one would ever know.
I would guess the same for BDO. Dont rapidly throw out high cost abilities non stop and no one will know.

The "LOL's" on your post are not laughing with you....
"This may hurt a little, but it's something you'll get used to. Relax....."
It's difficult to tell how widespread the hacks and exploiting are because Daum won't communicate on the issue. Everything they do is done in secret so nobody knows how widespread it is, or who it is, or even if they do anything at all.
The Rednose boss bug for example was exploited heavily by a guild that included one of Daum's own CM's. Not surprisingly although it was patched as a bug in the next update, no one was banned or punished for exploiting it and no rewards were taken away.
Been several incidents similar, but the exactly how widespread? Unknown. Tons of vids on Youtube tho .

I rarely even feel that resource is something that needs to be hacked.
Long cd skills, some might be very powerful, but are not really that useful because most of them have longer cast animation. Most of the bread and butter skills are low cd or no cd anyways. Tho the rapid skill spam that has no gcd seem concerning.
I guess I would be god with CheatEngine if every thing is client side in matter of hours I could find lots of values that will make me god . Fortunately I don't buy such games ^^

OP, the only "hack free" MMO is one that has been shut down.
You are doing yourself a disservice if you pass on this title for that reason, especially off of what you've read, just my opinion of course.
Yup, there will be bugs in the next mmoRPG that people will exploit. Bots will exist. If those are reasons not to play a mmoRPG, then the OP can skip all forthcoming mmoRPG for the foreseeable future.

But not all of them are so easy to hack in. Still, this thread got me to download the Russian version of the game and a hack I found on some Russian guild's forum. Once in game, I hit all the buttons the hack had on its GUI and apparently turned on God mode. I had unlimited HP and MP. No delay on any skills either. I then quickly killed mobs till I got a few levels and since I was unkillable, this was fast. I ran around, hit mobs, gathered them up, and AOEd them down. No offense but if a competitive online game allows me to do that, it is not worth my time.
Fear not, the fan bois and those that paid pre-release will come and defend it to the death. They may even be the ones using the hacks.
Trust your instincts and research. If it's not something you feel comfortable with , move on. If more people did this, companies would actually make what the players want, not what they want to sell.

Potential new player here, but this was linked on Reddit while I was doing research for the game. Googling that line brings up the MMOG Fails web site, which I recall as being the one that exposed all the ESO hacking. Doing some more searching and torrenting on Russian sites, I managed to find a bunch of stuff claiming to be BDO hacks. Dowloading and scanning them shows they are clean and not a virus.

Thank you all.
You are not going to find any mmo that is hack free. All you can do is play the games and enjoy yourself as much as you can.

The game has a lot to offer before you even have to worry about PVP honestly. Far more to make the $30 entry fee well worth the money.
Spot on.
run to point a to b kill 10 wolf and bring them, now remove poo of dog 10 times talk with npc and link 1-2-3 item for link to more npc no instance almost no pve contents
pvp broken full of cheat, will never be fixed, that just the core game broken level cosmetic 30$
It's a good idea to worry about hacks. Most games don't have hacking problems because it's kept under control by the company or made difficult/impossible to do. Some games however have a well earned reputation and it's ok for the OP to want to research first.
After 2 fun years in Aion I left that game because, along with an increasingly toxic community and insane gear grind, the hacking was getting out of control and not being handled at all by NCSoft. This was back in the end of 2011 so I don't know what it's like now, but it's certainly not an issue all games have. Most games you can play and have fun and never be impacted by hacks because they're nearly nonexistent. Some games the abuse is rampant and it's not fun.
Rumors of hacks in BDO were around way before release even simply because the client is based on the Russian version, not Korean, which already has a number of known hacks. It's sad that Daum didn't address these things in Alpha/Beta.
But some games get such issues taken care of fairly early on. ESO for example doesn't have hacking/botting issues and it must have been so long ago or such a small issue because I've never even heard of that myself. ArcheAge I know had problems for a long time but I don't play it anymore so I don't know if they were solved.
Hopefully Daum and Pearl Abyss take care of it soon - they did comment on it in a Massively article:
We’ve reached out to Daum ourselves and have been told by a representative that the company is aware of and working on the issue and and that reports of players are reviewed and the perpetrators are banned once the exploit is confirmed. Daum has further requested that players report hackers and exploiters right here.
In all likelihood, nothing is being done at all to FIX the exploits.
The Russian version has never been fixed, why would they make a special effort now that the game is in NA/EU ? Specially if the fixes would involve major changes to the current game design at a technical level.
What they will undoubtedly do is keep banning cheaters. No names mentioned, of course, just the occasional announcement that ten thousand accounts were banned, or some such.
And let's face it, many of those banned players will happily buy another copy of the game and resume cheating until they are caught again. It only takes a few days to get a new L50. A new box copy costs around the same as a costume in the Cash Shop, doesn't it ?

Well that and guest codes. Maybe they need to limit the level and money of guest accounts.

But they can still be hacked.
Anybody can be hacked. The U.S. gov't was hacked. The people doing this are smart. The best any company can do is to mitigate it as much as they can.
@SpottyGekko You are 100% correct. Dozens of people saw two hackers fighting each other today on Orwen and reported them. Nothing was done about it and they slaughtered anyone that tried to attack them. Eventually they lol'd about it and went their separate ways. I really hope someone made a video so everyone can see how greedy Da$m is.
