I would nominate Planetside 2, a game which had very different gameplay to Planetside 1; and a game which never got ahead of the cheaters. All hail F2P
Luckily, i don't need you to like me to enjoy video games. -nariusseldon. In F2P I think it's more a case of the game's trying to play the player's. -laserit
Just curious what people consider their worst MMO, they've ever played?
ironically ArchAge would be the worst but its not a bad game. followed by EQ2 which is also not a bad game. they are just both not as good as all the other MMOs I have tried
That said, my entire MMO collection of games I have tried is fairly small
That's the way I would say things too, even though I have played a huge number of MMOs.
EQ2, AA, but also (for instance) Wildstar have not been good games for me, but I can acknowledge their positives, polish and general production quality, and therefore it doesn't make them the worst games ever, not even remotely close.
I was going to list EQ2 because I logged on, spent a lot of time listening to some goofy voice acting; walked around the city and quickly saw it was a facade. Cool structures often could not be explored. Then I went out into the commons and slaughtered everything I saw; didn't feel one ounce of risk. Pointless so I quit.

similar experience.
I started the game and immediately started exploring. How long before I see some sky and open spaces I asked myself, kept running kept going. Finally I get out in commonlands! I walk up the ramp and all the creatures are Orange. whats up with that? I ask on global 'oh you have to be level X to make it there'
oh you have got to be joking me I said to myself. I still played for over a year but I never liked it much but I didnt know of other options
Please do not respond to me, even if I ask you a question, its rhetorical.
There are some real stinkers out there. However, the reasons change. I would have to say that Earthrise was the worst. It wasn't that the concept was bad, it's just that they released long before it was ready. Just made for a bad game.
A couple stand out for me: FFXIV original version - how could something intended to be so good be so bad. Fortunately they put it back in the gestation tank then came out with ARR - from zero to hero with this.
However, No1 by a distance: Skyforge - running the same zone over and over just so you can go to the next one and do exactly the same thing. One of the most mind numbing button mashers out there.
Been a while since I have seen threads on this site where people are telling other people their opinions on what is basically an open ended poll are actually wrong.
And for the record, Wildstar was the worst MMO I have ever played. There are some long forgotten closed out Asian anime grinders I can't even recall the name of that I spent more time in than WS.
I don't think anyone is saying a choice is wrong, more so odd. I thought wildstar was terrible as well, but I wouldn't call it the worst , not when it can be compared to titles like D&L, Roma Victor, Alganon, mortal online and a myriad of other titles that IMO were much, much worse.

Had a budget that could feed an entire country. Had every resource at its disposal. Had a simple IP that was hard to screw up. Had all the time in the world to produce.
What was delivered?
WOW in space. Shallow game play. Generic MMORPG theme park. But hey, they had well celebrity voice actors!!! What a joke.

It's more like people are surprised by the quite high quality of the games other people consider as worst.
If you've only played a few MMOs (like @SEANMCAD for instance), and only AAA titles, it's logical that your worst game will be among those.
Or it's just that people are spoiled by the vast amount of available games today?
EDIT: The "most popular" and "top voted" lists of this site also help put some perspective on what is written on this forum... I've worked for websites like this, and the owners here can also confirm, the number of people who post on the forums are a tiny part of the total visitors of the site. So don't be surprised if your "worst game ever" is actually on of the top voted and most popular of the site.
But I rate these games on their overall delivery of experience. And Wildstar just did not deliver.....AT ALL. I don't care about the development, the polish, the quality.......whatever. The game sucked.....hard. I could not uninstall it fast enough. Expectation had nothing to do with it. since I already expected a lower quality game. It was already re released as F2P and had already developed a rep. So were my expectations. And to be honest. The game didn't even live up to those.

I believe the joke would be the people still crying about swtor as it continues to be a good mmorpg for a lot of people.
As for the topic I'd say Age of Conan. It's the only mmorpg I know that was sub model had a paid expansion went f2p and forced people to sub or buy a pass to play the xpac they paid for.
ESO the scenery was beautiful,, liked the questing and exploring but the community was bad. I can't even imagine how it is now since it's "free to play if you have enough money for goodies". I subbed for 6 months and then left.
EQ2 couldn't get into it.
Since when is ESO f2p? People need to learn that when you pay a one time fee that isnt free.....It may not have a monthly but it is not free.
It's pretty rare that I play an actually bad game. It's too easy to watch gameplay videos since the broadband explosion in the early 2Ks. Games can be disappointing, they can be uninspired or just not especially fun, but just flat out bad? That's extremely rare.
And that's why Darkfall stands out so much. I got sucked in by the hype years in advance, got other people hyped (sorry, fam), and really wanted it to be the next UO or Shadowbane. Then I played it and for the first few weeks I put on a fake smile and battled my way through the terrible interface, awful combat, worthless AI, boring gameplay and stupid omnibuilds. After awhile I just couldn't convince myself to keep logging in. It was just so bad in every way with absolutely no redeeming qualities.
The second worst MMO I've played was Skyforge and I would still give it a 5/10. It wasn't for me but it wasn't a steaming pile of rancid garbage. Darkfall gets a 2 and only because it was FFA PvP, otherwise it would get a 1.
The worst mmo for me was/is Star Trek Online. Such a huge disappointment with so much potential in the Star Trek Universe. The ST universe is such a perfect fit for a MMO and we continue to be spoon fed this horrible game.
I'm not sure. A lot of games have failed to keep my interest like CoH. There's so many I can't bear to play, but worst? I don't think I can really answer. I do have a simmering strong dislike with GW2.
I'm feeling a little bad for the developers of Wildstar. That game has gotten like what appears to be a universal hands down, but that can't be right. I played it for a bit...or tried. It could've been a really cool game, but...
Very great topic to see how useless the mmorpg.com community is on rating games. Lots of sad opinions on great games just because they don't match particular and weird tastes.
A few gems. Original SWG was a bag of lies and bad ideas despite having some good things going for it. 1)Non synergistic combat. 3 People together Each attack a different "health" bar was a mess. 2)Wearing armor made you weaker and required food buffs to overcome the negatives to armor. 3)Lying devs, SOE sold a bag of lies, items in the game improved stats by percentages of a percent. 4)Lying Devs, to become a Jedi is different for everyone Players "unlocked via skills right?" Devs "yuuuuh noooo??" 2 months later "we unlocked jedi via skills" Devs "WOAH"
Auto Assault: Apocalyptic Combat vehichles + cash prize tourneys. Result, 3 factions that were so unbalanced in abilities and even story. 1 faction had early abilities that were OP off the bat, another faction had quest hubs available easy access, another faction who knows, devs spent more time preparing for a botched E3 tourney then the game that by the time E3 came about people didn't even care.

Thats a great call!...I had completely forgot about that game...It was brutal for sure.

This is the problem with open ended polls asking for the Worst...... So many forgettable titles.
