They did hire a team for a Star Wars mmo last year. So yea I'm sure this rumor is close to true.
Ok it was two years ago. But here are the links and yes they are working on a Star Wars open world game. It is also believed to be mmo because of certain job openings and certain people who were hired for it.
Welp a new unsubstantiated rumor about a reboot being in the works and we should hear info on this e3 this year or next. No info on who is developing it for now other than EA will have it's hand in publishing it. Shooting for 2017-18 before the end of the new trilogy. I can't tell you how I know....this message will self destruct in ......
I'll believe it once I see some more evidence that it is true. If it is true I would love another SWG-like remake sandbox instead of a SWTOR-themepark. :pleased:

Where's the proof it's even a mmo? If it is, I pray it's not the pre-cu skill system. That was boring, tedious, slow, and impossible to balance. People ended up using the same handful of builds that were most useful for whatever it was you were doing. BTW, running mission terminal crap is not my idea of fun. The year 8 NGE is by far the best build of the game.
you forgot to add "Praise Satan"
MMORPG players are often like Hobbits: They don't like Adventures

Yeah i do remember hearing of that one, yet don't remember any rumors of MMOs, which would be great if true IMO.
I'd still bet something smaller scale would be more likely, think survival genre, with more emphasis on PVE.
I was actually personally thinking it was going to be more like The division or Division/Borderlands co-op. That would be a fun game.
there is a thread on these forums started by one of the moderators about it. For the life of me I cannot find it. It was around the time they posted the info about the Lineage legacy servers.
Ok found it. Basically says its a Star Wars open world game.

Let's assume it's true. If it's anything like SWG but has a cash shop......yeah, no thanks.
It would have to be. Sub based MMOs just don't do well these days unless they are named World of Warcraft, or have some way to pay for the sub by playing the game like EVE has with Plex.
As much as I would love to see a sand box Star Wars MMO, I feel two things about this:
MMO's from AAA developers are done. They've pulled up stakes, un-circled the wagons, doused the fires and moved on. So who is going to make this? There's really not reputable studios jumping up and down to take on a SW title.
I simply don't think these rumors are true simply because EA holds the rights to the Star Wars video game IP, and they already have an SW MMO. Not only that, but their sick preying on gambling addiction with their random lock boxes is making them tons of cash. There's no need for them to spend the millions it would cost to make a new game which would then undercut their gambling addiction income.
Now, a single player, open world game? That's certainly in the works or at least in the planning stages. That type of game won't steal MMO players, especially if it's an action oriented game like an Assassin's Creed, Batman Arkham Knight style title.

Obviously they aren't, considering EA has exclusive rights to the Star Wars license.
Sounds fishy. Last I heard Disney was holding on to the IP for disney studio development like it was some big ass titties. They were simply waiting for the EA SWTOR lease to expire.
Yeah, I don't really care. If it happens then great, if it doesn't then fine. I'm completely content playing SWGemu. I'm back home, no more flavors of the month that inevitably lead to disappointment. I've been playing for 2 months with some friends and haven't been happier in an mmorpg since 2005. SWG 2 sounds too good to be true, we'll have to wait & see.

All of the current AAA MMO's will continue until their player base doesn't pay the bills anymore. I'm not saying that these companies are shuttering current MMO's, I'm saying that none of these companies have a new MMO in the works.
Even Blizzard bailed on Titan, and I would bet my life savings it had far more to do with them reading the cards and realizing that MMO's are on the way out, than any of that crap that Kaplan and Co. are spouting about it "being their only failure". Why have an actual failure when you can claim an internal failure and then recycle the assets for the new hot thing which are Hero Shooters?
In fact, I bet the story went more along the lines of "Oh crap, all of these new high budget MMO's are tanking hard after six months, is this really something that we want to be involved in?" to which Kaplan and Co. said "Fuck no. Hero Shooters are the new upcoming thing. Scrap Titan and recycle the main characters into heroes. Spin some story about how we failed to live up to our own internal standards so we come out looking like the good guys."
So, no, AAA MMO's are done. If there's a new Star Wars title on the way, then it's certainly not SWG 2.0; I can all but guarantee it.

If you want a new idea, go read an old book.
