I'm posting here cause my Hype score isn't high enough to hype this mmoFPS.
The tutorial does not tell one how to fight! Duh, major omission in a pvp game. No clue how to shoot gun or how to use target reticle. No clue what to do when one dies. No clue what happens to gun or ammo when one dies. No clue about safe areas to learn in a bit. No clue how to find a merchant before returning to death zone. Nuts.
At the end of the tutorial, I chose my faction carefully to be sure I entered in an area "controlled" (their word) by my faction. Yeh right, died 3 times.
First step was to go to apartment. Um, no clue what to do. Left apartment when there was no choice but to do that, finally. Had a gun and ammo from tutorial. Wanted to buy a better gun and ammo from merchant. Leaving apartment and immediately entered a combat area. No choice in the matter. Died immediately. Guys waiting by entry beam to kill people entering. No chance to withdraw or fight back. Whack! Laid dead in entry beam, no clue what is going on.
Ended up in a cloning facility, whatever that is. Tried to get out of booth. Wouldn't let me. No clue what to do. Finally, as it turns out, my clone was ready and I could leave. Yea!! No clue what to do. Um .... Finally figured out that I had to buy a ticket out. Did and left.
Respawned in that same room in the entry beam I died in the first time. No gun or ammo. And no opportunity to get some. BAM! Dead again.
No one would answer questions about how to get going in this game when I asked. Only interested in killing. Phooey.
Cloning, bought a new clone. Bought a ticket. Went back. Had a gun this time, no ammo though. No one there. Ran around, no merchants to buy stuff from. Almost out of money. People spawned in and killed me again.
Phooey. This game not ready for release if this is how they plan to introduce new players to game.
Uninstalling beta.

I knew it was a beta when I installed it. You didn't read my post.
This is an eval of how easy it is to get in the beta game and get going. Good beta feedback for anyone with an open mind who wants the game to be better and to retain those who might be interested in giving it a try. I'm not the only one with these concerns. Read the hype comments.

I know EXACTLY how jeff feels. I tried this game a few days ago, uninstalled it in about 2 hours. It was friggin ridiculous. I wandered around aimlessly trying to ask people questions on how to make money. Finally after about an hour one person responded by saying "F3K J00 N00B!", and BAM I'm dead. No clue what to do at this point either but sit in this friggin cloning tube for like 15 minutes before they let me walk around again, aimlessly, only to get called a "F3KKING N00B!" (after playing 30 minutes in this shitty game). Finally I find out that I need to either do mining or missions. I hear mining is too expensive so I select missions. I pull up the missions screen (horrible frickin interface) and select some kind of mission that was in my area so I can make money. Well I was supposed to meet a few people at Prime Pax Level 1 Door or some crap and went there. I even got there early! Was greeted by a bunch of people in full body armor with God mode weapons. Anyways, I say "Hey all I'm here for the mission at 7:30pm?" ....."DIE YOU N00B HAHAHAH" , and BAM they shot me up like a 2 bit whore.
NEXT MISSION WAS:
Start/Control Panel/Add Remove Programs
Clicked Uninstall Face of Mankind.
Done. Over.
WHAT A CRAP GAME!!! If they expect people to pay to play this "i just took a crap on the toilet and Face of Mankind popped out" game, they are in for a HUGE surprise on how flamed they will be. This has to be one of the worst MMORPG's I have ever played. Without a doubt.
Hm. So there's a tutorial now. No tutorial when i started playing it, but I still had a lot of fun with in several months. Great game, actually, if you got enough patience, and like these kinds of games. I've even written a guide, it's in Norwegian though, but if anyone wanna know where it is you can contact me. To be honest I think my guide must be _the_ best FoM guide there is, because I've only seen one other guide, and it's not a very good one. :P (But as I said, it's in Norwegian)
But enough about my guide, I really think this is a great game, but unfortanly I've stopped playing it. I'm not sure why, I kinda lost the interest of it, and I started playing Guild Wars.
I think that this game will dramatically change until the release, I at least hope it will be much better. And one more thing: The interface blows. You maybe didn't know this, but FoM had a different interface earlier, I thought it looked great, it just slid into the game, but it was to damn hard for newbies to understand. The interface that operates today don't match with the game at all. What a pity.
Phew, long post.
They are in the process right now of upgrading the game interface and engine - so we'll see how that helps/hurts the game. I downloaded the beta the day they took servers down, so have yet to play it. Just been reading.
It sounds very challenging, which I like. But the player base (mostly on FOM forums) are a bunch of snivelling weenies, flaming devs just for having downtime to improve the game. Granted, I have not played it yet, and will when servers are again up. I just hope morons don't ruin this game for me, I'd LOVE a challenging MMORPG
im very excited for face of mankind right now, the engine is getting a much needed upgrade and new character models and animations is comming with it. I know duplex systems wont let us down. this is one of many steps in the right direction

Is it so hard for a new player to get in the game and figure out what is going on without getting killed left and right? That seems to be the impression I'm getting
Ive been in from day 2 of beta. EVERYONE went through this, even me. You die..alot.. its part of learning. The best thing to do is start a new character, be LED or FDC (cops or army) and get an apartment in brooklyn. Its safe there and you wont get shot as LED or FDC. Many new people do stay, many dont. Also, the tutorial does tell you how to shoot, just like any other fps. FOM is diffrent, your going to love it or your going to hate it.
EDIT: I suggest you try again in about a month, right now we are getting an engine upgrade and soon we will have noob missions and overall the game will be more noob friendly

I've been playing since open Beta began because I love the game..Yes it's complex, which is why many seasoned players love it. It is a bit slow a times and holstile as hell at other times. It depends on what the players are doing. This is a player-driven game and if losers are on when you are it can suck. As long as you use the game forums, IRC, and preferably TeamSpeak or Ventrilo you will be fine. Remain in your apartment and use the "Faction Chat" channel on your text box. It's a simple drop-down after right clicking on the channel heading. You faction will help you get started and usually even equip you. This is a real game and if you go out without a clue you may get killed. *gasp!! I'm surprised folks who can't figure the game out are even able to use their computers! (Not really the folks who posted above, I noticed they quit after getting frustrated.) After a bit of time the interface is goofy, but good enough. With a little practice it's adequate.
If you love having to play a heads-up game, FoM is for you. It's not a shot-a-minute frag fest, but a complex politico-economic simulator for FPS and RPG fans. Just remember anything can happen, and that the other players are real people rather than stupid NPCs, and you will have fun.

I've been playing FoM since early Jan, and yes when i 1st played the game i didn't have a clue what to do where to go.. and YES i died alot as a noob (open PvP for ya) but after about 2 weeks of frustration i started getting addicted.
Anyway eventully learnt to fight, got some money and equip then i worked my way up the ranks of Mercenaries of the Blood(MotB), then went through 3 civil wars within MotB faction (due to players/squads trying to get control) then got burned out fighting my own comrades and moved on to the Brotherhood of Shadows(BoS) Faction, the Criminal undergound where i'm now a kinda bodyguard for a Crime lord.
So anyone trying out the game for the 1st time, my advice is; stick out the harsh noobie times cos it'll get amazing, and at times boring (gotta take good with the bad). Learn the game throughly and you'll see, if you can't fight (FPS combat style not "click-bash-click-bash" style) then you can be a miner or a producer or a trader, even a politition and try and talk/Roleplay diplomatics to other factions or drug deals oh yes did i mention you can buy-make-take drugs in this game, or if your a merc get contracts for hits and such, i can go on all day what you can do in FoM.
But its all player driven(with limited GM intervention) so you only get out what you put in, nothing in FoM is handed to you on a silver platter (unless your high ranking cop or army officer), you wanna find a cool game or a great adventure then you gotta go out there and find it.
So overall this is one if the best MMORPG's i've "tested" in a longtime.
Only a retard can't find out how to learn on his own,Just means your lazy and don't even wont to look around.This game is made for more mature players and it seems you have to much time on your hand but you don't wont to waste that wonderful fat lazy computer ass on asking or learning on your own

Face of Mankind is not the kind of game you can just jump into and start "levelling" or whatever. First of all, the game is almost completely player run. You cant gain levels by killing stuff - other players in your faction who are higher rank promote you. I think thats the major difference that people dont expect.
Players have the option to open fire and kill other players anytime they want - but the players have built up their own rules and laws and once you find your feet in the game, you will learn what areas are safe for your faction. It isnt all just stupid faction wars either, the world has player made laws enforced by the player run police force - for example on earth, you will find places patrolled by cops where noone will shoot at you no matter what your faction. They might try, but they'll be chased and possibly arrested or killed. (yes there is a prison system).
By choosing a random place and teleporting to it, youve done the equivalent of teleporting into baghdad dressed in a "US Army recruit" uniform.
I will admit the learning curve at the start is very steep - but people who persist will be rewarded with a fun game. Its definately NOT a game for carebears - there is PVP and lots of it. The combat is based on player skill and numbers rather than equipment and ingame levels too - equipment is pretty standard and is all player made (body armour, gun, ammo, couple of implants - nothing else, all of those items are cheap and nothing is rare.). It is a game for people who liked the days of mmos being unrestricted and mould breaking. A lot of mmos thesedays are just copies of each other with huge restrictions placed upon what you can do e.g "You cannot attack this person" "you cannot do this". Well here, you can do anything if you think you can get away with it.
Guys people have there likes and dis-likes but why post and waste your time on flaming on other MMORPG's.
I have played many MMO's and disliked them but some people do like them so why brake them down and burn on there game.So yes I play FOM and its great more of and Older Adult kind of game cause it has more tactics to this game.

I was tould it would be great so maybe everyone should give it another try,I was tould new guns and jobs and everything i just can't wait to see what happens.Those who do play i think we might get a character swap and might have to start over.I read the GM's chat and well you can say that I might be a little mad cause i have 27Mil of credits so yeah >_<.But if this Update works out then I am willing to give it a chance and try to make that damn 27mil of c again.
Also my character you can say he is new i have others that I dumpt in the trash ^_^!!!
