Is this akin to getting out of the starting area and being able to immediately take down a world epic? Because that's what it sounds ALOT like.
hmmmm, it's more akin to gettign out of the starting area and being able to attack the world epic but you don't have skills or good gear.
Or put another way: getting out of the starter area and being creamed!
As others have said and as people who play ESO know there are a lot of "lines" to first unlock and second develop. And it takes time. And don't think oh just like WoW then its just about getting better gear. It isn't. One of the "helpful hints" is something like: if you find an encounter to difficult consider coming back when more powerful.
Yeah for an allegedly face-rolling game, I sure see a lot of new players dying out in the wild, not to mention wiping in dungeons now that they're all scaled to max level if you get the group through the dungeon finder... and then there are those world bosses in Wrothgar and other "battle-leveled" zones.
I expect that when the whole world works that way, there will be many tears from the under-skilled and under-geared who buy into the idea that you really can go anywhere at all

Wait levels are gone too ? xD
Looks like they found their success formula the more they remove from base game released 2 years ago the more people play it xD
Yep it certainly looks that way. And hey credit where credit is due, at least they are listening to their fan base now. However if they hadn't been so pigheadedly stubborn during their concept phase where many fans told them they disliked so many of features that are getting removed, they could have totally avoided the giant clusterfuck they had to go through to get here.
I have a feeling that was Paul Sage's fault.
Ever since Rich Lambert took the wheel, the game immediately became one of the best MMOs of all time. He worked on Oblivion, he definitively knows better what TES should be.
I just threw up a little in my mouth.
sorry but for me Oblivion was the bad one.
Compared to Skyrim..Oblivion was a masterpiece.
I would have to violently disagree to the core of my DNA throwing around tables and chairs to make my point clear. I did not like Oblivion at all.
You can disagree all you want, however Oblivion was the last TES game that actually played like an RPG. Also the spellcrafting system it had, is probably the best in the entire genre of all time.
Yes Oblivion wasn't perfect, but for 2006? There was nothing like it, Bethesda was so far ahead of everyone. Skyrim in 2011? Nothing groundbreaking, especially when the CDPR really showed Bethesda how an RPG should be made all the way through Witcher 1-3.

your right I disagree.
Personally I felt Morrowind and Skyrim both were more like around a 9 out of 10 Oblivion? about a 5. really did not like that game, can not stress it enough, I dont care if its a 'true' polished turd or a 'true' RPG or any other 'true' title you want to give it, i still didnt like it.
but just so you know despite both Morrowind and Skyrim being two of my favorite 'AAA' titles of all time I am not nor ever have nor plan to play Elder Scrolls Online. figure that one out!
Please do not respond to me, even if I ask you a question, its rhetorical.

I actually can't figure you out at all.
Out of Oblivion, Skyrim and ESO, ESO actually plays the closest to Morrowind, then Oblivion..and lastly Skyrim which is as far as it can get, as it shares literally almost nothing with Morrowind..
So yeah I actually don't know anyone that liked Morrowind, and also liked Skyrim. However I know many that liked Morrowind and love ESO. Oblivion wasn't that well received by true TES fans either, but Skyrim wasn't received at all.
Most that hate on ESO are actually Skyrim fans, you know the ones that played Skyrim and think everything revolves around drunk nords? Well yeah it doesn't. I suppose ESO is just too overwhelming for this new generation of "RPG" action gamers.

let me help you out
ESO is a class based system ESO is a level based system ESO is a factional required based system ESO is a story focused system (from what I understand) ESO was originally a 3rd person view
each of those items by themselves is very close to a deal breaker for me, all together they are absolutly a deal breaker for me
Morrowind/Skyrim are none of those, its a traditional Skill based game. YES they 'contain' all those items but its not the focus. In fact, I heard somewhere that levels exist in Morrowind but i have no idea how it affects your character or even where it is on the GUI so please, let me kill that before it starts.

ESO is most like Morrowind? I'd love to see how you figure that out? Morrowind is one of my favorite games ever and I have had to force myself to play Elder Scrolls Online.
Also I love Morrowind and love Skyrim. They both excel at different things.
Like Skyrim? Need more content? Try my Skyrim mod "Godfred's Tomb."
Will be interesting to see how this will play out. I like the whole Elder Scrolls series.
The main thing I do not like about ESO is that most of the content with a group is just too easy in the OW. Then you get to the big dungeons and you have to actually learn how to play your character.
Other then that I like the game a lot.
Is this akin to getting out of the starting area and being able to immediately take down a world epic? Because that's what it sounds ALOT like.
hmmmm, it's more akin to gettign out of the starting area and being able to attack the world epic but you don't have skills or good gear.
From the sounds of it, gear and skills will be entirely secondary. They may make *some* difference, but not really enough to justify endless grinding to get them.
I played another game that was phobic about gear making a difference, Global Agenda. Things didn't work out very well for them. I also played Guild Wars 2. I hated how things scaled in that game as well.
I'll have to see how things work out, once it goes live.
I have seen several people mentioning that the new update muddies the racial waters. They are already muddy, the alliances don't make a whole lot of sense as they are now. I don't picture most Nords willingly associating themselves with Dunmer. Or Orcs being buddy-buddy with Redguards or Bretons. Wood Elves hate everyone who isn't a Wood Elf. I guess that's really true of any of the Mer races other than Orcs.
I don't think they could have done a much better job than they did. Dividing 9 races into 3 factions is tough when most are incredibly xenophobic and/or have been warring with one another forever.
He pushed aside all gamer complaints about not making this game open world with his 16 year old nonsense from DaoC about how they must create factions so players have pride in their side blah blah blah. Now after the game doesnt come remotely close to gaining the sales they expected and even after going B2P....now...now he wants to break down those walls? too little, too late.
I could not stand this man then, can stand him even less now. He completely ruined what should have been a great MMORPG.

They will seduce you into believing you are done learning, or into thinking that your work is better than it actually is." ~Raph Koster http://www.raphkoster.com/2013/10/14/on-getting-criticism/
Wait, they actually removed the levels or did they do the KoTFE instead?
Everyone knows I am NOT a proponent of leveling, but I feel that the pacing of Themepark leveling is off(start with bland abilities -> get the fun ones after you've done like 50% leveling -> where it should be "get the fun, signature ones soon, dps padding later"), not the leveling in itself.
They didn't remove levels just allowed players of any level to have content "leveled" to them.
The more you level the more skills, leveled skills, better gear, you will have to do that content.
Like Skyrim? Need more content? Try my Skyrim mod "Godfred's Tomb."
Who freaking decides these things. Removing levels in an RPG completely destroys the whole element of Gaming you level up to get better better gear that are content more content better loot better everything. Leveling shows determination it shows that you care enough about the game to actually put the time in to get to his particular point. And don't get me wrong the leveling system with the veterans system and all that nonsense was ridiculous and I truly believe that Bethesda and the Elder Scrolls franchise has really really dropped the ball on this particular item meaning Elder Scrolls Online which had potential to be the best RPG of all time correction MMORPG and yet they want to keep destroying it. How about removing the barriers between platforms. Making a whole world 1 level 3 ruins gaming in its entirety but playing the game on different platforms should mean playing with other people on different platforms not bar s us from playing with friends who aren't going to go out and buy a new platform for umpteen amount of dollars just to play a game with a friend take that barrier a way not the levels. I was a die-hard Elder Scrolls band until I saw what they did to this MMORPG
Most of the game will probably still be facerollable, so im not waiting for it. Difficulty slider could bring me back.
Or you could just go to more difficult areas? That's what I've always done when I wanted a bit of challenge.
Plus the game is balanced in PvE so crafting isn't mandatory. If you want a challenge, level using the gear and weapons you pickup just from drops. Minimaxing is a faceroll.

A lot of people race through the content even in the first tutorial area you can come out with a line of weapons and gear if you take your time, not to mention a good start on your skill line.

another cancerous idea infesting the mmo world. FF8 did this and i hated it with passion. Now imagine we would have a similiar system in our world: You go to fitness and no matter how hard you train, you dont improve, cause everything around you improves with you. A pointless mindfuck again.
To me it just sounds like the Guild Wars 2 way of doing things. You go into each area and you can do whatever content it just scales you to it. I'm sure there will still be an overall level, it's just trying to get people to go out into the world more and do things with friends.
City of Heroes did this YEARS before Guild Wars 2 was released. You scale down to team lvl if you were too high or sidekick up to team level if you were too low.

They aren't removing levels and levels still unlock access to gear and skills that makes you stronger.
They are adding scaling to the world so you can go and quest where and with whom you like. You'll still be way more powerful the higher level you are.
