The Clone Wars - League of Titans is China's OW Rip Off

imageThe Clone Wars - League of Titans is China's OW Rip Off

Chinese game developers have no shame when it comes to cloning hit games in other regions. The latest is League of Titans, a fervent effort (if poorly executed) to copy Overwatch for mobile devices. They say a picture speaks a thousand words so we'll just leave you with this video.

UPDATE: Polygon (via Reddit where the producer writes about the game) is reporting that the company behind League of Titans claims the video was made for a tech presentation about its ability to host large scale games and that the game it created for that purpose was never meant for release.

The producer tells the reporter: the leaked images are from an industrial inside convention. We put the images out in the convention to discuss with our peers that how to learn the game design concepts from Blizzard to apply to web and mobile platform. we Prepared this technical demo to show that we can mimic the same control feeling and model in a web page. ... The video is actually recorded from a webpage. We did not expect someone secretly record the video and put on the internet. ... When the real game come out, you will see nothing relevant to Blizzard's design element. We show the video to prove our browser game design techniques and want to find someone cooperating with us on a similar game on web page.

The game is still under development and we dont want to leak more information. I can say that only certain gameplay is similar to overwatch, but we will add our own design and we want to do the web version "overwatch". We just want to explain that the role design in the video is not the real one in our final game.

This is nothing new. China has been doing this crap forever. its the best form of flattery. Even The Chive App makes a group of pics of rip off items they sell in there stores in the region of fake Iphones.

Haha, yeh this is typical China. They innovate sometimes, but mostly just copy other countries military weapons, software and tech in general. That way they focus less on R & D and more on production.

They even can copy talk shows, go figure. But in terms of money, they are scary. Right now they are buying things left and right.

US companies clone titles and features all the time, no news ever on that. Mention it on the forums and you even get a warning for trolling.

but behold! A chinese company clones a title of his holy blizzardness and here we have a headline.

Who said recently that Suzie's Blizzard fanboyism never affects her way of reporting news?

not to get into politics deeply but they manipulate they're currency so they can undercut our trade deals and have advantages over American products. Free trade act -isn't Fair trade. until this gets fixed we are sol.

i have not seen a clone as bad as this in the US. I have seen games that where based off others but this is a literal copy and paste. you know kinda like CoD has been the past few years.

Volgore the only example I know of where Americans are doing it as well is Samsung verse Apple BUT they have been stealing each others technology and have been in court winning and losing over different things. Once Apple won a patent infringement against Samsung but didn't specifiy how they were going to pay out so Samsung sent truck loads of Nickles to the company that they had to count by hand ><

Isn't this like saying: "Look!" We can program that too!! But we'll do it for less!!"

Here's to incoming foreign labour :P

Besides: half the indie scene is clones of bigger games and those are western "developpers" too afaik.

I can't believe it! The Blackwidow clone went chasing after the Reaper Clone, as if!

Wow I wasn't expecting it to be this blatant. That's hilarious.

Honestly?  This is great for consumers, it means Blizzard have to push and make their product better than the clones or lose to them.

Unless you are a share holder why would anyone care about them copying the game? it makes Blizzard put more effort in to make their product better because if they don't that giant chinese market will go play the clone instead.

As far as I can see this clone isn't anywhere near as good so it's not an issue, it does however keep blizzard on their toes while normally they could get complacent.

There really aren't any laws in China against intellectual property rights violations. Even in their school, plagiarism is allowed if not encouraged. I think this is one of the reasons China won't be able to join the developed world, until they make some serious legal changes. There's a difference between making something "similar" or an offshoot of a good idea. It's another thing entirely to just completely rip off something else.

Why join when u can skip that part completely, and go into the ruling the world part right away :P

Not like they skipped joining the developed world, they just pick and chose what exactly they want to do and what they don't want to do from the laundry list :)

This is a blatant 1:1 copy and your answer is to accuse Suzie of being biased in the matter?

As if there is a clone as good as Blizzard products.  People have been trying it for years with WoW.
