High level is about grinding faction for the best gear. Many raids to do and whether you do space or ground is really up to you. Unless an event is running though many of the raids are empty and you can be queued for hours with no launch.
This game for me is story. To level just do story missions. More than enough to max you out in level. They do story releases on a regular basis. My advice is to find the class you like. Play the story to level to max. Then come back for each story release. Grinding faction is not bad, if you do it during events. Have the faction gear is nice for the story.
End game ships can be a long conversation. Best ships are only available through a Fleet purchase so join a fleet with the required base unlocks. Store ships are generally sellable on the auction house so you can grind for many decent ships by in game cash.
Good game, although now i just visit every few months to play the story.
FYI the Romulan story line is different for a lot of the beginner story lines. To a lesser extent so is the Klingons.
The End game is just too grindy, lots of goals to get, but to little ways to get there.
Grinding dilithium to buy or upgrade almost everything and you can only refine 8k per day and if you need 200k for just one item its too much of a grind in my opinion and i played it since the start (lifetimer since the start also), not forgetting you dont have much options to do stuff except the STF`s(dungeons)).
Also PWE made this game the same as EA did with SWTOR, P2W is around every corner with the premium ships and all the lockboxes you need to buy keys for.
In my opinion just wait till another Star Trek game/MMO comes out that isnt made by PWE, its not worth your money and time at the moment.
ps. i didnt even mentioned they change the whole game almost every year, so when you get the hang of it you need to start over from scratch, the old STO is gone and the fun also.
I have 2 level 60's endgame consists mostly of events and new episodes. Its one of the few games at end game wheres there stuff to do. ive played it for around 2 years. The romulans are just awesome they are so cool wish they had them at launch. Theres actually 4 factions now with the new expac you can create and level a new toon in the 23rd century or TOS (the original series) timeline.
My only real complaint with the game is their lockbox setup especially with the ships from the new movies now they were very stupid to do that had they put those ships in the store oh how i would have emptied my wallet but im not into gambling lockboxe routines very shitty on their part other then that the end game is pretty fun

That was just enough to reaffirm my belief that STO is a game I can safely ignore, lol
