Wildstar... There was so much potential in this game. It's seems to me that the Devs systematically made terrible choices throughout development and post launch. It makes me sad because I really wanted this game to be huge.
ArcheAge choking off PvE at level 30. One zone that's flagged for PvE only for just a few hours at a time? What were they thinking?

I have to go with WoW. I gave it a try I think 3 years ago. I found it to be confusing and not very newbie friendly. It's supposed to be the biggest MMORPG in the world but I didn't find it very fun.
AoC was the biggest punch in the gut for me. It represented so much at the time. An interesting combat system, next gen visuals, amazing world and lore, something that could actually go toe to toe with WoW. And then it released and people played beyond Tortage . . . epic fail. I've never had such a let down before or since then (well, maybe the new Devil May Cry, but that's not an MMO).
I usually don't find games to be that big of disappointments (or surprises on the good side, either), as I read up on a game enough before playing it that I usually have a pretty good idea of how good it will be. So while, for example, Guild Wars 2 wasn't nearly as good as Guild Wars 1, neither did I expect it to be, so it wasn't really a disappointment.
I'm going to have to say TERA, almost entirely because it surprised me with how awkward the control scheme would be on a gamepad.
aion, played along with some friends until lvl 15~20 during the chinese open beta and we all enjoyed it a lot. then came western release, we were all pumped and then we hit the horrible grind brickwall at lvl ~35 and the awful flying pvp in the abyss (we were all lineage 2 pvp veterans and expected a lot from the end game pvp). we pretty much all quit with a disgusting taste in our mouths and never came back.
Overall letdown in MMO history - Vanguard: Saga of Heroes: Probably expected too much from this game and it delivered on most fronts, however it was just backed by a poor company and buggy as hell. Honestly, if they could have spent 4-5 more years developing I think we would have a really successful game still.
Recent disappointment: Black Desert Online - Just kind of meh. The combat was fun at first, but wears off as the grind gets intense. Not much of a challenge makes for a dull game in the end.

I haven't been emotionally invested in a new title since The Chronicles of Spellborn. I did not enjoy it when I finally experienced it so I suppose it'll top my list.
Mortal Online was probably my biggest disappointment purely from a cash investment perspective. Seventy dollars for a broken case and disc. Hated every minute I spent in game.
I am most disappointed in myself for continuing to purchase every WoW expansion to date, despite never really experiencing the new content in each. I buy them to play with friends, reach level 30 in a couple hours, punch myself in the face, and then don't login again until next expansion.
This game was released in a broken state with little to no content & extremely buggy. Yet people still played. The vast majority of players had no idea how to MMO they played because it was "Star Wars."
Upon creating my bothan I logged in to discover people killing a high level Fambaa npc like a brontosaurus. The pathing in the game was non existant. You could get npc's stuck in world geometry & kill them with starter weapons. Get a ton of exp and after about 4 hours mastered 2 professions just from that.
The game was an absolute joke from the start to finish. They tried revamping the entire game numerous times and fucked over everyone in the process.
TSW, and I still think it is the best post WoW MMORPG. I bought a lifetime sub, played feverishly for 8 months straight, loved every single second of it and STILL it is my most disappointed MMO. TSW was supposed to be my final home, my AO with a Cthulhu setting with a near infinite amount of stuff to do.
Funcom could never create the game I wanted so much. TSWs combat, crafting and zoning are all well below my standards and the reason it is so disappointing is because the rest is absolutely top notch, close to perfect gaming. TSWs lows stand out so much more because of how good the rest of the game is to me.
My almost perfect game and also my most disappointing, I have never regretted my Lifetime sub for one minute but it could have been so, so much more and I would have stayed so, much, much longer.
Now I feel sad....

I spent years talking about how SquareEnix was out of touch with its own player base and how they didn't seem to learn from their mistakes in FFXI. I was assured that FFXIV would be different. It wasn't. I've never been more disappointed in an MMO. It was as if the people in charge of developing a new MMO never actually played an MMO. They certainly didn't play their own.

And several WoW expansions.
Black Desert Online. BDO had so much potential then the devs pretty much made it into a single player gankfest.

More recently, Archeage and BDO but more disappointed in myself for falling for the milking of my wallet.
AoC was a big letdown as well.

An honorable mention to ESO.

WAR
The Secret World
I am left more than a little jaded; kind of disappointed in the whole genre right now.
