This comes as no surprise. It was only a matter of time.

    It's been interesting to watch.

Nothing about the game itself has really intrigued me, but the way in which it has spread like wildfire (and resulting stories such as these) IS intriguing.

There's a whole lotta derp on everyone's behalf in this one...  Who thinks it's a good idea to loiter outside people's homes so late at night?  Who lets their teens wander several hours past curfew?  Who runs out and shoots at a car on baseless assumptions?

Who thinks it's a good idea to release a game that encourages these situations?

I happened to be awake at about 2:00 this morning and there were several people around a fountain where I live. I turned on my kiddo's PG and, sure enough, someone had placed a lure. I can't think why anyone in their right mind would go there at that hour. Seems like a horrific crime in the making, IMO.

And that stampede in NYC to get a Pokemon? One guy even ditched his car to run after the crowd trying to get the thing.

    Insanity.

Talk about an over-reaction, no-one can blame the younger guys for speeding off if there's some armed bloke stood in front of their car.
What's the likely outcome for someone discharging their gun in a public place with hardly any justifiable cause?

Lets just be thankful for everyone involved that no one was hurt, and hopefully these Pokemon players start getting their acts together.

Wow when you see it on that level you do start to think the population is being zombified by this... lol...

So news stories that would never normally be reported are having tenuous links made to pokemon and reported for $$$

    Business as usual.

This has been happening from way back years ago for another game (which is WAY more dangerous and has resulted in hundreds of deaths), I think it's called Blackman Go or something like that.

Guys got issues, only certain Pokemon come out, and middle of the night is perfect for catching pokemon cause the majority of people arnt in your way capturing them out from under your nose. That's why you use a lure in the middle of the night, less competition. There is no curfew, and its no crime to be out late or all night if that's how you roll.

In my country if I(or anyone else) see few teenagers(or older individuals, doesn't really matter) going around in a neighbourhood, never in a thousand years would I consider that they are burglers and moreso try to act like a hero... The asshole with the gun should have called the police if he had these worries instead of pretending to be a hero(though not sure how that would make him a herom dumbass, yes definitely... hero... nope).

Thankfully the potato with the small "ego" was a horrible shot as well otherwise this could have ended quite grim.

So many people in this thread keep blaming the pokemon go players for this, but I'm marginally sure people loitering around doesn't count as a justifiable cause for threatening them with a gun.

I'm a bit more murky on the legalistics of shooting at someone when you (hopefully honestly) think they tried to hit you with their car.

I don't think anybody should be opening fire, but with the current climate of this country you'd have to be clinically retarded to think it's ok to be wondering around on private property at night to play a video game. #Idiocracy.

I can't believe how this world is mentally regressing on the back of technology. Irony.

These stories are more entertaining than the game will ever be. I never got more entertainment from a game I haven't even played. They should have named this game the Darwin Olympics but I guess none of the people that play this would even know who that is anyway. Yesterday I saw the mother of a 15 year old girl claim that the game led the girl into rush hour traffic killing her. Yeah and if she crossed the road reading the newspaper would it be the New York Times fault too? If this game was made by an alien race to test for signs of intelligent life on other planets..... we failed horribly. Game over human race.
