I played UO, then WOW, did the 1-2 month thing with a bunch of other MMORPG, played SWTOR pretty hard for 6 months, and played Darkfall 1 for it's entire lifespan, and played 4-5 months of DFUW (which I really liked but my LOL addiction is strong as fuck).
I want to go back to a MMORPG and BDO really caught my eye with an emphasis on territory control and resource coming from PVP. Coincidentally, I see that a new update brought more of the core PVP objectives into the game. A few questions.
I read that it is graphically beautiful. I have a gtx 680 video card and an i5 3570k running at 3.4 ghz. I have 16 GB ram, i forget what speed.
I know my pC is a few years old, how will it handle BDO?
How much pay 2 win is involved? Note, I am not against shelling out extra money to buy some good gear or cosmetics, or some kind of shortcut to "grinding" that' I've read about here.
Are there many large organized PVP clans?
A few months ago I read about rampant cheating going in this game. Has this subsided at all yet? I'm not too worried about catching up to other players, but I don't want to support a game that doesn't fix big problems like this.
I am interested in what sort of problems other players had with the game. I've already read about "gring" cheaters and RNG. Are there other problems than these though? I don't care about those problems. I can put up with a lot of problems in games to try and find a satisfactory PVP territory control game. Nothing has replicated what we had in UO when it came to post AOS champion spawn control in felucca. I miss those days and haven't found anything like that since. Well Rift and few other games had open world PVP stuff happen but it never played out like it did in UO.

Seems okay if you read this thread for your card.
I read the node wars are a lot of fun. I think you need to join a guild for that.
As for P2W I hear that the upgrading of the gear to 15 is a bit dicey and the chances can be improved with some item from the cash shop. Since you want to PvP you will be affected by the people being better geared so you will have to spend otherwise may be make more money in game and pay for it that way with fail stacks.
The only shop item I know that deals with gear is a potion/oil that helps restore durability a bit more, but nothing that actually affects your chances of upgrading.
As for the hacking, things seem to have gotten a lot better when Daum recently moved a bunch of functions server-side, which killed all the major hacks. (Something they should've done from the start, but hey, at least they learned eventually)
@witchkiller I'm afraid that if you want this to be UO 2.0, and especially the version before Felucca/Trammel, you will be sorely disappointed. No corpse looting. No real griefing whatsoever, since they took away the ability to make others lose XP when you kill them... all perfectly fine by me, but if you're the type of player that's looking for that sort of thing... BDO's not for you.
BDO is very low on the P2W scale though, especially since you can't even sell cash shop items on the auction house, unlike on just about every other MMO with a cash shop.

I specifically mentioned I missed the post AOS UO... which included insurance and trammel. Well you could loot power scrolls, which was the resource generated by the champion spawns. We did our best to control felucca and champ spawns and that is how we made our fortune and what I liked about the game. Territory control /resource control. Similar in Darkfall. I liked full loot but it was also a drawback because it frequently stopped you from pvping.
Yes that is funny about the server side stuff, I remember cheats in Diablo 1 that was 20 years ago. haha.ah well.

The only gameplay advantages are inventory and warehouse space, along with some other convenience stuff that you can easily do without.

I will tell you straight off BDO is no UO its not even close in anyway ..
The things i dont like with BDO are ...........
The PVEnemy is terrible at best , at lvl 45 its tediuos, boring , and repititious .. every mob so far is the same exact fight .. Over and over and over ...They may as well not even have different , graphics ,animations sounds.. etc ..very unispired, unimaginative, and uncreative effort in this area ....
also.... dont like
Gender lock.. ( i always play a Ranger ) not Sandbox
AH with locked pricing ... huh .Not Sandbox
Glowy bread crumbs .... not sandbox
Wasnt bad enough with ! and ? over NPC heads , now we have 6 new icons ..not sandbox
Sooo So many NPcs on the roads .. very odd
Terrible NPC AI
Combat is spammy and meh .. boring
Lil black guy always wantin to show me his teeth ... WTF
Bad, unimagintive itemiztaion
Lazy localization ...
AFK Fishing ... lol
hate !PARKING!
Also if you are looking for an open world experience like UO gives you wont find it in BDO as it will hold your hand every chance it can ..
You get a Giant glowy Trail leading you to every single quest objective...
You get Giant Orange Circles on the world map showing you where to go for every mob in your quest journal ... In case the Glowy Trail isnt enough ..
There are 6 different Multi Colored Icons over NPC heads telling you which each one does/provides..
Pets will loot everything for you , even stuff you really dont want ...
NPC will farm all your mats and Craft for You....
Instanced Housing .. pfft terrible ... UO system is light years better and its 18 years old
BDO is in no way comparable to UO experience these are my thoughts and opinion .. Hope this helps OP
Everyhting posted here are FACTS and In-mechaics that BDO has .. either you like or you dont .. It doesnt change the FACTS(one couild say possibly that my opinon on the PVE AI is opioion and ill buy that , but it is also a widley shared opinion )
You played BDO until level 45 and don't even realize that a large majority of those game features you have issues with, are in fact not facts, and can be toggled off, mitigated, or done away with completely?
The shame.
- Quests - Mediocre ( take that fetch that bla bla booring )
-Voice acting - Low Quality
- Story - Low Quality and translated poorly
- Nice World full of Glitches
- No gear customization in terms of appearance ( If u dont buy from cash shop u look like at lvl 1 )
- Gender lock classes
- Balance between classes its poor
- Combat its great but after a week it gets repetitive
- Crafting, Housing, Lifeskills are pretty well done for who likes to do it
- item progression ( Massive grind for who likes that )
- Comunity is one of the most toxic ive seen in years
- Node Wars i havent participate ( It may be fun ) but with all the things lacking above i havent seen the reason to do that
- Casual play = NO its still a massive time sink if u want to have moderate gear I am not trying to mock this game its just my honest opinion
Full tower PC
"How much pay 2 win is involved? Note, I am not against shelling out extra money to buy some good gear or cosmetics, or some kind of shortcut to "grinding" that' I've read about here."
There is no p2w, however you will probably want to get some pets later on to loot for you.
"A few months ago I read about rampant cheating going in this game. Has this subsided at all yet? I'm not too worried about catching up to other players, but I don't want to support a game that doesn't fix big problems like this."
A few weeks ago, a patch apparently moved many skills to be checked server side instead of client side. There hasn't been a high profile hacking video since then, so it seems most of the hacking problems have indeed been fixed.
"Are there many large organized PVP clans? "
Yes, definitely. The whole point of endgame is OWPVP between guilds.
Personally I'm really looking forward to the WoW expansion so they can all go play that for a month and then spend the next two months badmouthing it.
Will be a nice break for the BDO forum.
So if you are not fixated on getting to high level and want to make a journey of the game, it is for you. Just a note, the only customization for you character is via the cash shop, otherwise your look does not change from level 1.
If you are interested in the pvp part, you are wasting your time. Even Wow pvp is better.
I see, yeah I'm in Legion beta. and I can say we are in for a treat. Although I do not like having to re learn all my classes haha but that's part of the fun right? in the meantime I think ill just give BDO a solid try...again...maybe...yeah why not. ;]
but nonetheless i enjoyed the game, leveling was fun. its totally worth buying it, and you don't have to bother paying sub if u drop the game and decide to come back months later .
And noo .. people who dont like BDO isnt because they cant run it .. (It Ran Fine) Or Because they dont have a good game to play .. They all playing games .. just not BDO , I play FF14 , Warhammer and UO all for differentt reasons and each scratches an itch far better than BDO can in any way ..
These are just weak excuses and obviously so by BDO fans who really have no logical explanations for the games short-comings... Sorry everyone doesnt like it .... its OK ...
I appreciate people's opinions on different problems. I would say though, I am not looking to replicate my UO experience. I played from 1998 to 2005 with a few breaks and that was enough for me. I have many fond memories of UO but the only reason I brought it up was the TERRITORY CONTROL. We used some admittedly underhanded tactics (3 accounts full of dead characters left at champion spawns that were controlled by software to log in/out of each character and basically were alarm systems that alerted us if anyone tried to do a champion spawn, then spammed guild chat), but it was the control and fighting over it that I loved. I actually didn't really love UO as much pre-aos. There weren't many options back then though.
I wanted to play GW2 so badly when it came out but for some reason i coulodn't get into it. I've installed it 3 times over the years and never got a character past level 4-5 . I think I'm just gonna drop the $50 or we/ it is and try it out.
I hope the cheating is over by now, 100%
Otherwise you might turn into yet another "tried it guys, whew, what a turd" posters.
I personally love the game but I can easily see how others might not like it.

Also the game is really bad. Most people can't see past the pretty colors though...
I really don't see the need to pepper my remarks with "superficial criticism" just to make myself appear more unbiased. Everyone's entitled to their opinion on the game. Mine happens to be extremely favorable, but that's just completely unpalatable to some here.
Since you want to talk credibility- As for you, you've been on this website for 5 whole days, and every single one of your 23 posts has been completely negative regardless of what you're talking about.
Anyway, a few youtube videos made by a few guys that burned themselves out before siege and node war content was even in the game are probably not going to be especially helpful for a guy wondering mostly about the OWPVP endgame.
I do however recommend researching as much as possible before making a purchase. Unlike say, most negative posters on this site, I would not pretend my opinion is written in stone and that you should act solely upon it.
Just make sure to look at both sides. The other side of the youtube videos you were talking about is this youtube video:
"BDO has its own set of problems but its still got its own set of features that everyone was bragging about. I think it's really funny that a lot of these guys have quit, complaining about features they were bragging about 1 month earlier."
