The one big pay to win element this game has is in the founder packs. The expensive ones give you an Ox straight off the bat (+ a couple days head start) while the other players will have to grind several days until they can afford one. In the early stages, having an Ox is a massive advantage for gathering. Players with Ox and 3 days head start will be able to buy all the city plots before the regular players can even see them and will be able to level their crafting much faster and dominate the economy.

So with your logic there would be no point to joining this game 1, 2 or 6 months down the road because the early joiners will be 'dominating" the game. My guess is this won't be true but time will tell.
I'm a casual player, even if I bought the headstart the no lifers and those with great knowledge of the game mechanics will far surpass anything I could accomplish so in the end it's of no concern to me.
Just as in real life where the rich and powerful control the overall scheme of things, I would try to carve out my personal niche of "success" and be happy with my accomplishments and not worry about dominating a game.

Their gold purchase design is nothing like Eve plex. These indie games kind of crack me up. Give me a sub model and I will gladly try it out. F2P? Forget it! The game opens itself up to all sorts of crack pots, cheaters, etc.
Let's see: Take the most complex genre of the greatest scope and put it on a mobile platform?
The result is what you would imagine.
Just pointing out that I've seen a mobile cross-platform MMORPG work very well. It can be one of the biggest draws for a game. Just imagine, being able to play anywhere, and having your progress distributed across all your devices.

Is it possible to opt-out of the PvP? I find myself with only small blurbs of time during the week and much more free time during the weekends. If I can PvE during the week I might actually be able to get stuff accomplished in order to PvP on the weekends.
I will try it as a casual, but I do not like RMT one bit- it will certainly limit me to only ever playing very casually as I do not wish to ever compete in a game using my hard-earned money (beyond a monthly sum equal to a "subscription substitute").
After spending a good amount of time with the game, I have to say the RMT doesn't really change how the game is played and can't really be considered P2W.
It is basically a top down EVE. Their system of RMT is pretty much PLEX.
It just seems strange that a game that is based around player run everything. Economy, crafting, trading would sell gold on the shop. There is no way that infusing the cash shop gold into the world does not affect the economy. How could it not? Perhaps not as much in Alpha and Beta but on release?
You must not understand EVE or virtual game economies. You may not enjoy EVE, but no one can deny that when it comes to in game economy, EVE did it better than anyone ever has or likely will do in the future. RMT in AO works very much like PLEX in EVE and absolutely does not hinder the in game economy. Im not here saying AO is without flaws, or that its even a good game. Im only pointing out that your "point", is a terrible misconception.
Silver is the main currency used in game, gold can be used to buy premium status.
Yes you can sell gold to gain silver but the gold to silver conversion rate is crap and don't know why people would do it.
It doesn't effect the economy the same way it does jack shit to the economy in EvE, if some clown wants to blow a few hundred pounds on gold to get a high set of armour to then have a good chance of losing it later then let them carry on.
Memory is a bit fuzzy but can't you sell gems in GW2? If so same idea in Albion pretty much.

I think the question many people have is how buying gold from the shop and then infusing that gold into the economy of the game will influence it. The game is billed as a player ran economy. Player ran trading. Everything player made. How will being able to buy gold influence the economy of the game since it is a fully player ran economy.

I would just like to point out some inaccuracies in this post.
It only takes a day to make an ox (nearly for free but it has a ~20 hour growth time) and has no requirements so no one will be grinding several days to get an ox
Oxen are also not good for gathering, only for moving large amounts of good between locations, you will gather much faster with a horse and going back to town more often than spending all that time dismounting and remounting to pick up more wood. Oxen also are totally useless for gathering in red and black zones.
The 3 day head start is pretty significant though, I will give you that.

Last beta I used it as a sort of long term investment. I would put all my unused silver into gold because I knew it would hold it's value better than silver. I logged in a day before the beta closed and all my gold was worth 500% more than what it had been before I stopped playing.
From what I remember gold only has 2 uses in game, trading for silver and subscription time. So it's a broken up version of a wow token, runescape bond, plex.
"But if you don´t like isometric view then the game is not for you."
Yeah, that's a big one for me. That's why I didn't get into Marvel's heroes game. This trailer keeps saying "you" this and "your" that, but with the isometric view, it's more like, "My little animated figurine" does this and that...
What I'm looking for in an MMO is 1) Immersive 2) truly diverse character creation 3) fun for casual play 4) persistent effects of what players do. I've checked out some games claiming to have "sandbox" qualities and have not been impressed. A real sandbox should be truly open-ended, not driven by quests garnered from NPCs, unless the NPCs have some real AI and give different quests according to changes in the world due to #4.
This game appeals to me on so many levels. But sadly, I'm never going to play it. The 'Free For All' PVP is just too much of a turnoff!
I'm a PvE player, I have no interest in PvP and I refuse to provide the content for 'so called' PvP players who just want to gank carebears.
So I'll be giving this one a miss.
Apparently they recently added a new crime & punishment mechanic that punishes you for ganking those much weaker than you (or something along those lines).
The game is still very focused on PvP though and it's pretty much all there is to to in the endgame as far as I know.
It still seems like a great game for someone who enjoys trading though (ala EvE) considering it's all player managed (including the routes to and from the markets).
It's always seemed to me it should be easy enough to add a "karma" or "divine/poetic justice" effect; just take the difference in level and apply a matching negative value to the higher level's chances of hitting something the next two or three encounters, for example.
But int this game, it appears if you don't want to get into PvP, you just need to get deep within a strong guild's territory. Of course, your PvE experience might be limited to hunting wild cows...
I thought EVE's PLEX was equal to 30 days game time. It can be sold on the market for in game currency but that currency is generated by in game currency/resource founts. Is that not true?
If so then this is completely different. This actually generates new gold that is injected into the game.
I think in both games money can give a player a great advantage compared to a player of the same skill who doesn't pump massive money into the game with multiple accounts and PLEX sales. I can see someone paying for a similar edge in this game.
And of course every player counts. You can't have hunters without the prey.
Gold is not an in game currency in Albion. Gold is only used to buy a subscription, Gold can be traded to other players for silver. In game currency is only transferred, not created. I don't play EVE, but this sounds like exactly the same system. Also, the in game currency, silver, can be used to buy a subscription which means that you don't have to buy gold from other players which I assume is an effort to keep prices competitive.

I think sticking to real life would be the better alternative for that purpose.
Stuff like "mobile game lewl" or "P2W!!!" seem to be thrown around even after people have addressed those points.
It doesn't seem any more P2W than EvE tbh, and EvE has probably the most dynamic market of any MMO.
..Cake..
This game will die a slow death.
