Listening to someone complain about a game they have no obvious knowledge about other than what other people stated....
At no ZERO point .. has NMS stressed me in any way. And while I do think that E:D focussed on some minute details (like the length of time to fly from system to system) I rather enjoy NOT really dealing with that in any substantial way with NMS.
BUT I thought E:D was a much better game economics/gameplay wise. That doesn't really exist in NMS. In fact, there isn't much of a reason to do ANYTHING in NMS. And frankly, I think I'm unlucky, but none of the environments are distinct enough to have a "whoa" moment after the first world. They're quite barren and boring.
You're not respecting his opinion though, you're telling him that his opinion is worthless unless he's played the game.
the whole 'you dont know unless you have played it' logic is ridiculously faulty to its very core. Its about as valid as saying ' you have bug driven knife point' or just say 'because of reasons...'
Please do not respond to me, even if I ask you a question, its rhetorical.
I dont own a knife that I have ever stuck in my eye either but I can tell without sticking a knife in my eye and licking my blood off of it that its painful and I dont want a part of it
So NMS is annoying and not chill but you do not own it nor have ever played it....right. Carry on.
I also havent jumped out of an airplane so i dont know that its painful but I have seen other people do it.
the entire 'you dont own it' logic is extreemly faulty to its very core and countless examples can illustrate that its about as relevant a rebuttle as saying 'pluto drives a car' is. if only one would actually read my examples
I own Space Engineers and Elite Dangerous and No Man's Sky. I can speak from experience owning and playing all three. Wisdom is gained through experience.
your rebuttles make zero sense and do not apply and I am telling you they are about as relevant as saying 'because of reasons'
I state again.
I have not stuck a fork in my eye but I know its painful
how many times do you want me to resay this with multiple examples?
that 'meme' of an arguement is horrifically weak and needs to be put to its death bed
You are stating an opinion based off of videos and parroting others. I am basing my opinion off of actually playing the games. I respect your opinion to like or not like a game. I just ask you do the same. Cheers!
if you want people to respect you more then just say you dont agree with me. Dont pull that half ass 'you need to explore all 18,446,744,073,709,551,616 planets before you know for sure. its very obvious your just being intentionally disruptive with replies like that.
You dont need to play a video game to get a very good understanding of what the experience is like, peroid
Please do not respond to me, even if I ask you a question, its rhetorical.

He's not saying that at all. You acknowledge that you didn't explore ONE (singular) because you don't own the game. There is a distinct difference. If all you watched, for example, was Fox News.. then you'd be obviously biased in one direction. It's not that you can't have an opinion, but it would naturally be one direction. Same with MSNBC on the other side. Either way, you didn't form your OWN opinion, you're just making an assumption of your opinion based on previous knowledge. It's wholy different. And while it's allow, the point he was making is YOU pointed out that the game is stressful... when it's not. To anyone. WHO's ACTUALLY PLAYED IT.
Yes, E:D has planetary landings on procedurally generated barren planets.
However, if you want to do some REAL planetary exploration, nothing beats a little game called "No Man's Sky" !
In NMS, you can explore entire planets FILLED with animals and plants, while dealing with extreme atmospheres and storms on some planets.
E:D is planning to have similar features to NMS one day, but there's no fixed date for that. Hopefully we'll see more exciting planetary surfaces in E:D by 2018...

you do NOT have to play or own a game to have a very good idea what the experience is like.
PEROID. end of story.
more over everyone knows it so its a bullshit argument that everyone sees right thru as just being disruptive to try and get people pissed.
instead just say you dont agree and move on in life
Please do not respond to me, even if I ask you a question, its rhetorical.

If you're getting pissed, it's because you're wrong. You made a statement, when was then countered by 3 separate people. NMS is crappy at a lot of things but it is neither stressful, nor angering, nor annoying. You are making a statement based on NO 1st hand experience. That's like writing an essay based solely on wikipedia. Knock yourself out. But you've also brought forth no facts to support your statement. Honestly, I swear you're just mining the forums for an argument.
you do NOT have to play or own a game to have a very good idea what the experience is like.
If you're getting pissed, it's because you're wrong.
there is another statment that has no bias at all in reality and is fairly random.
what ever on this planet gave you the idea that getting pissed means a person is wrong? because it doesnt.
just like you dont need to stick a fork in your eye to know its painful, you dont need to own a video game to know a lot about its experience and getting mad does not mean your wrong
where do these random views of reality come from because they are not based on any world I know of
Please do not respond to me, even if I ask you a question, its rhetorical.
what ever on this planet gave you the idea that getting pissed means a person is wrong? because it doesnt.
Is this a English-Secondary-Language issue? You're angry because you were proven wrong. Cause and effect. Not synonymous. I'm walking away now. Have fun with your delusions.

I'd say "real" is a word that's up for grabs here. I feel that the non-atmospheric planets you can land on in Elite are more "real", certainly in a scientific sense, they have tectonic plates which lead to fissures, mountain ranges and the formation of basins, they have meteor craters, they have functioning orbits, some planets are tide locked and have faces clean of impacts because of that. Active planets are less cratered because of their age and so on.
It will certainly be interesting to see what they come up with when life sustaining planets are a reality.

I am sorry but that is wrong. 1. it assumes I am angery 3. anger can very often come from totally unrelated sources to the conversation at hand and that is common place.
4. its never to be suggesting that the source of ones anger is because they are wrong (although it 'can' be), that is silly and has zero basis on anything and to be frank is about as random as saying I am wrong because your name is Ikeda
so to review
1. the source of anger 'can' be because a person is wrong but often is not. 2. you dont have to stick a fork in your eye to know its painful 3. you dont have to own a video game to have a very good understanding of what the experience is like 4. you dont have to read an entire book to get a good idea if you might like it or not

Is it possible for the thread to return to the original discussion?
Yes it should and here is my take:
I am a Elite: Dangerous backer and still log about 4 to 5 hours weekly in the game. ED's procedural generated planets are mostly barren landscapes with nothing on them bar 1 or 2 small bases. No flora and no fauna whatsoever. In some of them you may find some small alien structures and artifacts. I have yet to see these. In short, there is nothing memorable about ED's planets. Yet.
If SC goes the same route then i will be disappointed and you will see me express this on these boards.

there is in my mind as of late an obsession with flowers from the gaming community I am hoping this will eventually go away, I personally find the obsession a little annoying.

Indeed, it will.
It's not going to be easy to do it in E:D, because of E:D's focus on "realism". There will have to be different biomes, appropriate animals and plants for the those biomes, ice caps on the poles, etc.
That will be PG taken to the next level. I'm certainly looking forward to it, that will be the point when I finally return to E:D, but I'm not expecting it for a few years yet. NMS will do just fine as an exploration sim for now.
ED looks like the most boring game ever made. It's not chill like NMS. It's not economically deep like EVE. They focus on the boring mundane parts of the game. It doesn't seem like they excel at any one thing. Every video I've seen of this game looks so boring and tedious. It makes Pantheon combat look exciting.
What about this game is interesting and compelling?
NMS is not chill its anyoying to the extreme and as a result it causes a great deal of stress and anger
The problem is with No Man's Sky is that it's too chill, and becomes boring and tedious grind.
If it causes you stress and anger, then you must be a person who'd get stressed and angry when watching paint dry.

I presume you're content with endless spaces filled with just rock or sand or ice.

like I say
I think discounting seemless planetary landing, land bases and rovers all because there are not any flowers is being a bit silly.

Yeah, watch hours of video to try to control the damn ship...it's a real blast, ugh. I really want to like ED but when docking your ship is this irritating and the ship controls are this unintuitive it makes the remainder of the game irrelevant.
You what? Docking is one of the simplest things in the game, my 6 year old has no problems docking any of his ships using a HOTAS or a gamepad. Request permission, landing gear down, dock, about as simple as it gets.
