Oh and another thing. the Sci fi references in the trophies and titles are awesome. I am sure 90% of them slip right past most of you, but so far I've seen a lot of Heinlein, Douglas Adams, Asminov, Verne, and Herbert.  I was hoping for a " Cat who walks thru walls " for blowing your way into enough bases but nothing yet.

90% of the references do indeed slip right past me and I am still impressed by the amount of sci-fi detail Hello Games has put in their product and just general detail as well. Most people won't even know for instance that the shadows and their position on each planet is based on the nearest sun in the galaxy and the rotating of said planet. Absolutely loving it, and only on my second planet, didn't want to leave my first....

A lot of the negative reviews come from people with an attention span that of a 4 year old toddler and shouldn't be playing games at all.

You should have seen all the rage on Steam (which has thankfully settled down now), because People were too lazy (or too stupid) to check the graphic settings and adjust them properly to their hardware.

All they had to do is disabling VSync, set limit FPS from 30 to Max and adjust resolution from 1920x1080 to their monitor's native resolution.
And to tune further, if they have older hardware, disable AA.
That's it! game runs like a charm.

I'm really enjoying No Man's Sky so far. Also the excitement of more content in future patches is really cool. Been enjoying taking a few screenshots myself. I find this really interesting planet last night. The Sunsets were absolutely stunning.

It's a real shame people visited perhaps 2-3 planets and then leave an angry review on Steam saying all the planets look the same ..

I think that is the drawback of procedural regeneration. If you have bad luck you start on a boring barren planet.

Since the first planet is so important and you spend a good chunk of time on it and learned a lot of my earlier mistakes, I have been restarting several times now until I had a nice starting planet.

I can definitely recommend that. If you start on a planet you think is boring, exit game, delete save and restart game. Repeat this process until you have a starting planet you like.

It will be a significant boost to your initial experience of the game.

TBH I think this game is built for 4 year olds/children who do have great imaginations. Just to make up for the sheer lack of it within the game.

Also, 4 year olds will love this game as there isn't any real challenge. Everything is simplistic.

I doubt a 4 year old would have much interest or being to hold interest in No Man's Sky very long. But thank you for your ignorant comment .

On the Topic of imagination ...

There is absolutely nothing wrong with a great imagination :)

I agree, just a shame this game, a game based on exploration sorely lacks it.

LOL. Have you even tried the game? Clearly not.

You have to stay away from the Youtube cool-aid. It will make playing games a lot more fun.

So i have ran into an issue that is the single-save thing this has, i completely bugged myself somehow on both saves  and i just appear stuck inside some mountain or something.

I'm trying to figure out how to delete the game's save to start clean again...
Saved game on PC gog version is c/users/username/appdata/roaming/hellogames/nms  then delete the defaultuser folder.

My problem is I can't for the life of me figure out how to take a screenshot with the gog version, I even tried using shareX and it just give me a blacked out image, I'm playing in FSD of course.
I have the same problem! I can't take a screenshot.  GOG for me as well. Other than that the game is running flawless. My i7 and new 1080 are loving it and the game runs very well. It does seem very random as to what hardware it runs well on and there does not seem to be any rhyme nor reason for it.

    So anyways.....
I have just warped. Got to the second star system and the game has gotten even better. I thought I would never get my warp as I refused to buy  antimatter lol
I actually got into quite the adventure scouring planets looking for the right components.
(I did have to buy the Suspension fluid)
The game is actually exactly what I wanted it to be.
A chill, laid back exploration game that I play with Tangerine Dream playing in the background.
I am not following the Atlas story I just set out on my own.
I follow trade routes and trade with the alien pilots mostly. I make a killing selling gold.
Overall I am loving it. Perhaps the feeling will fade sooner rather than later but I have double digit hours in the game and am thrilled with my experience.
    Nice, heh tangerine dream!

I got around the SS thing by playing borderless.

I am still in the first system and looking to figure out how to make anti matter myself, I got the components just not the recipe.   My starter planet was a nice toxic rain atmosphere one that I used caves lots to stay out of the rain and then I visited the space station and the next planet was a nice toxic waterworld type with lots of alien stuff underwater!

I did choose the atlas guide me thing but did so after repairing my ship so dunno if if actually working.... one thing I would like is a map, while I like the compass and icons I think an actual map with a fog of war that clears as you explore a planet would be quite awesome.  I noticed if you hang out at the space station where ship come n go you can see quite a few different types that you can then buy, most expensive one was like 17mil creds...lol

My first planet I been on all day n night and still only discovered like 55% of stuff on it...ha.

Got to plug in my t16000m joystick at some point and see how that goes for flying around!

Brenics ~ Just to point out I do believe Chris Roberts is going down as the man who cheated backers and took down crowdfunding for gaming.

I didn't really follow the game and haven't caught up much more about it that "space, explore, billion planets" along the way. Hence i came into this thread being rather sceptical about it.

Reading through most of the postings and checking some reviews, now i can't wait to check it out and i'm installing it right now.
It seems to be JUST the right game for my prefered "lone wolf"-approach to gaming. Can't wait to be out there on my own!

So, see you in space! Or in this case: won't see you in space!

So, i have put a few hours in this game and got the hang of it pretty fast. I think it's a rather straight forward game.
I like alot about it, but leave all these things out of this posting and rather go into what concerns me:

18 umptillion planets that are different -and yet they are all the same.
Structures, geometric/flora/fauna patterns, hazards, minerals and so forth is basicly the same everywhere. To me it feels like there is no need to explore millions of them, because you get an idea of what the game offers in that department after you have roamed around on 5-7 planets. They become generic rather quick and i guess that is a nasty side effect of a world not build by hand, but generated by algorhythms. They just share too many similarities.

Activities in the game seem to revolve around getting minerals, getting inventory slots for your suit and your ship and finding upgrades. Along the way, you scan some animals and upgrade your multi-tool. Constantly maintain everything from your suit to your warp drive which basicly leaves you doing the same thing every few minutes.
After 3-4 hours i was wondering what else there is to come or if i've now already seen what the game looks like in it's entirety.

IMO the game really needs a ton more systems to add depth to it and make it worthwhile. Build your own station, find a planet where you can cultivate plants on, build bots that mine for you, machines, devices, sphere generators, tame creatures, digging, terraforming etc.

As for the space part of it, i don't really get a sense of a vast, deep universe.

The game seems to be about an exploration-journey that right now is just not rewarding enough to me.
The problem with NMS to me is that every feature it provides, some other game is doing it better. Base build, space fight, FPS, trade simulation etc. That leaves you "exploring", which again is somewhat limited due to the reasons stated above.

There is alot more so say about NMS, but i'll leave you with this.

I'm really interested in what you guys think about this game, so keep the reports coming.

Yesterday's game I found myself in a star system where all the planets were balls of ice basically - temperatures ranging from -25c on one planet to another that was -125c! (125c is 275f - that is 275f below zero!).  It was on the -275c planet that I found myself almost turned into a popsicle whenever I went outdoors.

So I landed on the -275c world not knowing it was a ball of ICE.  Bad thing was it had few outpost, and was nearly devoid of the fuel you need to power your launch jets.  That is how I nearly got stranded on that planet from hell.   I ran out of the isotope used to power my launch jets.  Another bad thing was even with my exosuit fitted with cold weather gear it was chewing through the power used to power the special weather gear...so I was on a very hostile planet, no fuel for ship or suit and the closest base on foot was +10hrs away!

Needed to find the fuel.  So out I went and immediately my visor starts to ice over, the wind and blowing fine snow is making visibility worse.  I start getting warnings right away that a night time temperatures are dropping...ugh!  So I scramble into the nearest cave to look for some fuel for me ship.  Nothing!  I find nothing - in a cave system that would make Carlsbad Caverns look small.  Atleast in the cave temperatures normalize to around -45c...hehehe.

So out I went heading toward the base hoping it has a trading port - I can buy what I need and possible remote call my ship to my location and get off this ball of dry ice.  Then I remembered something - the drones that inhabit the worlds of this universe have what I need to power my suit.  So I start shooting the crap out of anything and everything to attract one or possible two.  Sure enough here come the drones.  I start destroying them and scavenging what I need from them.  So there I am heading toward a base, scrambling from one cave to another looking for fuel for my ship - destroying sentinel drones to get fuel for my suit on a planet whose temperature never gets above -200f.

Oh and less I forget - some of the indigenous life forms on this planet that live there(I know - how the hell can anything live on a planet like this!  But they do! and carnivorous at that!) are carnivores - and they seem to always be looking for a quick meal - me!  So yeah - there was that, too.  :(

I wasn't sure I was going to make it.  With the ice storms, wind, carnivores, the cold...it was really scary when I found myself in a deep canyon with no way out(jet pack couldn't carry me out so I had to traverse the whole length of it - :( ).  I did find small caves that allowed me to warm up from time to time in the canyon.  That was fun - not!

So after about 6hrs I came across an outpost that I didn't know existed.  It had what I needed.  Needless to say I got off that planet ASAP and left the system completely - never again will I attempt to explore a world that cold - ever again - no matter how much gold is on it - ever.

I wonder if they will add an option for a bit more combat focused playstyle.  More options = better and more people they will get $60 from.  I imagine there is no reason they cant add some basic building and more involved combat.  Unless they are not going to continue developement .  It looks like this game could be the baseline for a remarkable sci fi mmo in the future.

I haven't called off work to play a video game in years. I started playing NMS yesterday, called off work today and have been playing pretty much non-stop. PC version here and have had zero issues.  NMS is a really cool experience.

What I find sad and pathetic is all the people that do not even have the game givng crappy bullcrap reviews they are pulling off a few streamed videos.

The reality is the game is EPIC, play it more than a day, explore more than one planet, and you will see huge variety in NPCs, planets, and creatures.

I have it on both the ps4 and pc and really can not decide which version I like best.  I will say its is a hell of a lost easier to scan flying creatures on the PC, takes forever to get the hit box on the PS4.

Flight controls are alot tighter on the PS4, can't tell you how many times I end upside down turning on the PC.

Graphics of course are sharper on the pc, and colors a bit bolder, but at the price of things not necessarily always drawing in, in a timely manner.

People telling you the game is ugly or boring are idiots or liars, put 100+ hours into the game like I have then you may start to have an inkling of the real depth of this game.

Are there things the game is lacking, of course. I have already started a list of things that would be really cool, but stop for a second and consider the enormity of the FACT they launched a game of this magnitude with very few bugs, stable servers, and all on only a 5 gb client. I mean consider the scope and then take your negative reviews and shove them right up your hairy butts where they belong.

You mind if I ask what additions you would like to see in the game? Personally I want a photo mode and I know the PS4 has the share button, but more so I want a camera attachment for the scanner if you will. I'm not a fan of space battles myself but I love to explore. I finally understand how the planets work in this game so it has become easier to upgrade my exo suit. In regards to my ship I have upgraded that as well, but now what I think I'll do is save up enough money to buy a ship that come unto a station. My next milestone is to get an Atlas Pass. So many things I"m missing because I don't have that thing.

I would have to say I agree this game is amazing. At first I was hesitant but I stuck with it. By the 3rd planet I was hooked. So much so, I start and as soon as I look at the clock 4+ hours have flown by. Then I remind myself I have to get up for work tomorrow and need at least 4 hours of sleep to function. There are some things I'm sure I would want more of but I think I'll wait until my suit is fully upgraded before I list them. I really have to find another multitool. Oh haha I finally found the blaster on my multi tool as well. that really helps a lot.

I would give the game an 8/10 probably more as I don't really have any gripes with it but I can see its potential as well as why a lot of people would not like the game. After I landed on this recent planet I knew it was the game for me. It is very dark, but it is a desert planet. The suns beam down on me and it is amazing. I can see other planets close in but I know they are so far away from me. I notice a beacon in the distance that is 15+ minutes away so I zip up to just before I hit space and sling shot using the planets atmosphere and it cuts the time down considerably. Oh it reminds me so much of FarScape.

That's how I felt. No Man's Sky seems like Planet Explorers if you add in space ships to take you from one rather barren place to another...

...and then remove terraforming, settlement building, land vehicles, and hirelings

...and then remove the voxel creator and community-created content

    ...and charge $35 more.

That's what I don't understand either. Look at the steam forums though and you'll see a lot of people were expecting it to do something completely groundbreaking.

Personally I never did, but I bought because I do enjoy those games once in a while.

I think the rather reasonable assumption from most was that if you could do all this travelling and see all these things that there would be something to do or some greater goal than just travelling and seeing.  Almost every game trailer you see, especially for MMOs and RPGs shows off the methods of travel, the combat, and the world environments. That's about it. One reasonably assumes that there is depth to the gameplay beyond that, especially with rather strong indications earlier that it would be multiplayer

People simply expected more because it was pitched in the same way as most other games and they all have more than just looking at and killing things.

$20 indie game that was hyped into selling for $60. Not bad, but not "AAA" and not worth $60.

That is the only thing that matters.

The Devs are laughing all the way to the bank.

NMS was really taken to the "AAA" level of expectation, with also a full price for one on it, takes expectations of people on that point already too unreasonable levels.

One if not the biggest friction topic is Multiplayer, on witch it should be have been clarified longer ago, it just lead to tons of media attention about NMS being multiplayer, up to some people expecting one MMO... The devs here really should have made this "black and white", i kept saying over time this was a drama waiting to happen once the release... =/
