Any MMO's like this?

UnleadedRevUnleadedRev Member UncommonPosts: 568
All I want is an immersive MMO, where I can be a Wizard or Mage, and have my own tower to chill in, do research, look out over the city etc, plan, and then go out on adventures?
Not interested in World of Warcraft immersion ruining grinds.
Thanks in advance

Surprisingly it looks like the resurrected Dark and light might just be what you are looking for.

Beta in Oct/Nov which they'll probably sell access to, but what the heck, I'll probably buy it if so.

    FFXIV:ARR.
Good graphics and the Magic system is pretty good.
Not sure of any other games that fit the bill closer tbh, there might be some currently in development, but if you'd rather not wait a few years for a game that might not deliver on its promises, then FFXIV:ARR might be worth a shot.

Ironic, isn't it? --  In a genre built on the fantasy of adventuring wizards and magic, that there really aren't any games that just let you take on the actual fantasy life of said wizard.

I cannot think of a single game that really comes close.  EQ2 did have decent housing, but it was completely instanced, so you certainly weren't going to be "looking out over the city", etc.  And the research was pretty automated. And, frankly, EQ2 has one of the worst combat systems I've played.  FF14 really isn't much/any better.  Neither of those really come close to the ideal.

I don't know many details about the new Dark and Light, beyond them saying that it's mostly classless(skill-based system) and there will be flying mounts, so I don't know how likely that'll fit in either.
