Oh yay!! Another video game lawsuit thread. These seem to be getting super common in North America. Oh well! Time to move all our development to Korea!!!! I can't wait for the first Elder Scrolls game developed out of Bethesda Korea. Should be so animeish.

for about a year I kept telling people 'these NMS videos and interviews are not telling us what the game features are'
I think this whole 'they lied' is getting out of hand because on inspection they basically didnt comit to anything that ever made sense as a solid feature in the first place
Please do not respond to me, even if I ask you a question, its rhetorical.

I wholeheartedly agree but good luck getting people to take any personal responsibility for their own impulses. What I saw of the game looked like another Spore, big ideas, small game, so I chose to avoid it. Which looks like the smart choice.
exact.
In addition to that I have a tinfoil hat theory that some people where paid to post to get all the fantasies rolling. Only reason I think that is because I havent seen this phenomena happen before but maybe I am out of the loop

That's EXACTLY what I've been saying. I was stoked for Spore, but as great as Spore was, it was never as big as they made it out to be. Still a super fun game, though. It was inevitable that people would be let down by NMS.
Funny, though, my son bought it and thinks it's great. Granted, he didn't follow the hype train from station to station, so he probably had lowered expectations.
Many people have already played beyond 40+ hours so their cost of entertainment so far has been $1/£1 per hour more or less. Not easy to beat that in this day and age, but people will still moan and then pay the same to go to the movies and get 2 hours of questionable entertainment.

Sure, people need to take responsibility for their own hype-mongering, but there's another side to that as well.
Many of those wild fantasies were based on glimpses of things seen in demo's or heard in interviews.
Any developer that puts out tantalizing tidbits is playing with fire. You can stoke the flames, but you also have to rein-in the fans when things get too wild. And not in some ambivalent way that leaves the door open to a wide range of interpretations.
For instance, most of the buildings on planet surfaces that were shown in demo's have not been seen in the actual game at all. So, while attaching "special meaning" to those structures would have been a flight of fantasy, not having the structures in game at all is a bit of a glaring omission...
All these doom and gloom threads are having the opposite effect on me than what the author seems to want. Not enough to put $60 on the table though.

Love it! Imagine what would happen if gamers took any personal responsibility? *begins dream sequence*...

Some of the features that some people say are not in the game I have seen in the game or have seen player screens of those features. I agree this has gotten way out of hand. Just because you did not see it does not mean it is not in the game. There were things not featured in the game that we all thought or were told were going to be in it. I think Sony pressured the studio to push it out the door as is and those things will be patched in later. As it is I have over 60 hours in game and love it. I am exploring a forest planet now. (a feature some said was not in game) The planet is teaming with life and I have landed at two outposts with moving machinery (another feature some people said was not in game) I love it. I plan on exploring as much of the planet as I can. I found an alien ruin that featured a puzzle that gave me 4 alien words and a point of interest which gave me a massive upgrade to my ship's weapon. On my way to the planet I was attacked by 4 pirates and as I was fighting them off two ships from the space station came out and started blasting them! It was awesome!
Hmmmmmm interesting,,,, totally different from what most people say.
Basically clicking away text windows ruins every MMO, try to have fun instead of rushing things. Without story and lore all there is left is a bunch of mechanics. Reply Add Multi-Quote

*uses the force and waves hand* You will not buy this game.
When I get my stubborn up I've done things worse for myself than buying a game. Don't make me get my stubborn out!

Ive been playing NMS for around 20 hours total and I still haven't even left the first planet and I have seen animals roaming around, some of which even attacked me. Numerous little bases and campsites, several aliens, one of which replaced my tool with an upgrade for free and 2 others that i could get a new ship from. Also a monolith with options and a ruin that I am heading for.
Bottom-line is I am enjoying the game, very stress free for the most part, i just run around exploring, harvesting, trading, finding new locations and completing milestones. I really think the gamer community needs to collectively pull their heads out and quit whining over stupid stuff. The game is massive in scale, and just because you haven't see something, doesn't mean it is not actually there.
The gaming industry as a whole really needs a big lawsuit to happen (I'm not saying over this) in order to straighten up. Over the last decade game developers have gotten away with so much false advertising that at this point no one can believe what one says until the game comes out. How many of us no longer pre-order games? How many of us dont buy on launch day but wait for actual reviews to see what is actually in a game rather than listen to the hype trains?
Again, I am not directing this at Hello games but it sure would be nice if software was held to the same standard as other products when it comes to listing features before and after the launch.

read some of my posts on here I have been avidly defending NMS up to around 200 + hours in game and now I have come to realize they the whiners and complainers are right, the content is not in the game. This is not a matter of it just not working because of server loads are what not, this is intentionally not in game for whatever reason. Sean has flat out lied and needs to be held criminally and financially responsible.

specifically what features
I ask because most of the interviews and videos I have seen its been extremely vague and noncommittal.
so can we have a concrete example (other than multiplayer)

Let's say 'Yes!' Now what? Nothing. Grouse, complain, and the gnashing of teeth will begin. That's all, period. So, does that help if someone says 'yes?' No, but maybe it will make some of us feel all tingly inside with righteous indignation. Let's spend thousands of dollars on lawyers to get my 24.99 back (or whatever the game of your choice charges).

So you paid $60 for 200 hours of entertainment. So, having paid .30 per hour for your entertainment, tell me, where can you get better value?

It's actually 60 euros they schemed out of consumer's pockets with confusing marketing strategies (maybe not on purpose) and they should be held accountable. I can't speak for you but I for one do not want to see this sort of false information and wrong implications thrown into a game's advertisement.
Seriously it's not a bad game but it's a good game built upon a large numbers of lies. Someone has to point out the big elephant in the room in every discussion. You're not doing anyone, including yourself, any service by trying not to notice it. In fact you're just harming yourself and maybe even the game industry if they try and pick up on Hello Game's money grabbing antics.
