Mark Kern is working on Ember http://crixa.io/emberupdates/ As was mentioned, it is a new crowd funding method. Basically each step will only go forward if funded, it's relying at this point 100% on people wanting the game to get made.
I was just playing the game a few hours ago. Still up and running. Very few people on line. I really liked the game. I hope someone takes it over and keeps it going.
Sad because it was a good game (at times) with tons of promise. Just mishandled and with too many cooks with their greedy spoons in the pot, the game suffered. Some of the classes were really badass too and the community was good when it was there. I left after they added "races" and put pay2win bikes in the shop...

What if they want the game to get done but don't trust the guy who is making it. I wouldn't trust Grummz with a bag of small fries.
"a new crowd funding method" my #$$. He needs to stop panhandling over the corpse of Firefall and go talk the drawers off of another investor and do right by the money and vision this time.
"As far as the forum code of conduct, I would think it's a bit outdated and in need of a refre *CLOSED*"
Seems like the game and the website/forums are back online now. I think even steam thought the game shut down, hence why they pulled it from the store. Man what a weird day for Firefall...lol

Well that is quite possibly the dumbest thing I have heard in awhile. So they are going to basically take money from people and hold the game hostage every so often to the next phase of crowd funding? So what if they complete a couple rounds of funding and then fail then people just lose all their money and the game development ends? Who in their right mind would give any money to something that idiotic? Especially from someone with Mark Kern's reputation. This crowd funding really needs to be put to death as far as MMO's go.
That's sad. I was a founder/kickstarter for it and before launch the game looked to be very promising then they just couldn't stop dickin around with mechanics for some reason and frelled it all up : /
Good luck finding the red5 team mmorpg news team, they don't exist anymore they were laid of like 2 months ago or so.. it consist of like one the9 chill who is the only one left posting on the firefall forum. Everybody in red5, cannot speak of any of the things that the9 has done, or they will sue.
Mark Kern is going to convert it into the WoW legacy server campaign bus since that's all he has to do with him time after he got booted out of Red5, the studio he founded. Another failed game brought to us by the former wow developer crowd. RIP.
Next up...Wildstar.
It didn't fail completely becuase of Mark, he was actually refused to stick to his vision by the9. They said, make this game more like WoW, they then did, saying it was for the good of the game, to appeal to a larger crowd, most of the community shaked their heads, and left, or stuck around telling red5. "I told you so" Mark Kern was let go because the9 sucked his passion out for firefall because it was becoming something he didn't want. Sure he was the one that probably approached the9 for fundings to begin with, so he can be completly blamed for that. but not what the game became.

I have been part of the ember community since it begun 2 months ago, and I get the feeling from the community that they know it, and they do, as most of them have probably spent more then 100 bucks on firefall. and they do it again for ember. you can call them dumb if you want. but they know that when Kern is at the helm, things seem to go well.

No trying to promote it really, it would be competition But he did start with a petition seeing how many people would want him to make the game. I liked Firefall as well, but it's another case of bad decisions.
The site came back then went down again. Now it's back up again and they are posting that it was unexpected downtime on the forums. Not really sure why though.
And then you wonder why people always go back to the big ones like WoW and FFXIV.
You cant rely on these backyard companies.
I mean, the Red5 studios didnt even bother to let people know it was going to shutdown. They simply vanished...
No wonder the game sunk with this sort of mismanagement and lack of respect for players.
That's not the point. No game will be around forever. Even WoW will die, some day.
The point is to have fun. If you meet some new friends who move on to the next game with you, then your life is enriched by the experience, regardless of whether or not the game lasts as long as the king of MMOs.

Problem with this line of thinking is that it makes no sense.
The investor does not put money into a future product and then just change the mind on whim how the product should be.
If an investor steps into development process, there must have been some serious reasons why doing so - something isn't going as promised.
I liked what Kern did with Firefall but I am not doubting for a moment he fucked up hard.

I'm the opposite, I usually assume all the good stuff is from the devs and anything that is messed up and money grabbing is from the investors. The investors seem to have led the game in a good direction after Mark left . . .
