Less than 1% buy cosmetic items for Trion games- Ive seen the metrics for some other games (other major western publisher that shall remain unnamed) and it was about 3%.

Either way this idea that gets brought up in forums where players suggest that mmorpgs can stay afloat with cosmetic only cash shop is simply a myth.

I am glad that Hartsman at least shared that info - this "cosmetic only cash shop" idea can't die soon enough.
Maybe if they put some good looking things in the store then they may make better sales?

Said it before, it baffles me how cash shop monetized games don't stock their stores well.

I hope you mean that as 'the industry, and gamers, need to seriously re-look at P2P (or B2P as done in Guild Wars 1)', because the alternative (and current trend) of Whaling, Gambling, and P2W are rather ugly.

    So many excuses here.
    Problems about monetization ?
Not able to create a game without p2w anymore?
Not competent or creative enough to create something different, better or both?

    Pls.

Ask Guild Wars 2 ,FFantasy ,Tera, Path of Exile, several others or see mobas Dota2 ,Smite, League..

i dont see them p2w, and they are freaking populated with active servers

the p2w, and by that i mean items that can straight out make you much more powerfull and that are only in Cash Shop or are nearly impossible to reach via normal gameplay , that p2w ,is what is making Trion ,well, made them be like leper for average gamers.

Gamers may be spread over more titles, but they damn well will migrate and stay if some title deserves it.

    Cheers
