This reminds me a whole lot of the bruhaha raised when Microsoft first announced the XBox One. They were planning on no backwards compatibility to 360 titles, no free plan for the XBox One network, and requiring a 24/7 connection to the internet to play One games. Yeah, those ideas were really, really popular. NOT! And MS paid the price for that. After seeing the light, they were much more open to what the community had to say, including the aforementioned modding.
Sony will learn the same lesson, even if their console is in the lead sales-wise. You can only piss off the customer so much before they rebel. I am sure they will adjust and continue to be the sales leader, but expect their amrket lead to get slashed pretty heavily until they do figure it out.
The world is going to the dogs, which is just how I planned it!
I figured Sony would end up doing this. I tried to let people know that it wasnt likely to happen on a Sony platform. I am a bit surprised that MS is going to allow it but then again they have been really gamer friendly lately.
It's a good angle. If MS is going more open ended it gives a clear difference between the two machines.
I only own a 360 and would have picked up a PS4 for sure. The one reason that I actually have considered a console lately is because I was happily surprised that mods would now be a "thing". I am also surprised that MS is actually turning things around and lately had considered an XBox One purchase over the PS4. Yikes. I think I'll hold off until my PC is dead
Even worse, for those of us that really love mods, a couple of mod authors have pulled their mods completely from all sites such as The Nexus. One of my favorite modders, with several really great retextures, named LordofWar pulled all of his mods after people started uploading it to the Xbox store without his permission. The mod was causing the Xbox version to crash and then people were swarming to the Nexus to blame him for causing their game to crash.
Torval said: You don't have to write a tutorial, but you could simply list the attack vector. I mean if you can easily hack any PS4 through a webpage then you would think these "hackers" would be all over PlayStation. So why aren't all the PS4s compromised via the internet? Why aren't all the PCs compromised through these rogue hacking mods.
You're asking others to take your word based on privileged information, an appeal to authority, with no proof. You have to at least bring something concrete to the table for a credible argument.
It's not that mods are antiseptic. It's that the interpreter can and should be walled. Now if you're telling me, based on your experience, that the PS4 has no inherent internal security and that instructions can do what they want, then that's another story, but then that's not really Bethesda's fault unless they allow the script interpreter in their games to do dangerous stuff. But then none of that came out in the article.
I feel bad for those that bought both those games on console in the hopes of being able to mod them.
I feel no pity for console gamers at all. You wanted a console for gaming just cause it was cheaper and you got you wish. If you want someone telling you what you can and can't do on your console. Then buy a console, if not build yourself a PC and have free reign over what you can in you games you love.

I take a slightly different tact than this. I'm fine with there being a vibrant gaming ecosystem with consoles and PC's and tablets... ect.
However! What I'm not fine with are games that are made purposely for consoles and then ported with godawful controls to PC for the extra pickup sales. The Dark Knight, for instance, made me rage and The Witcher 3 before they patched the shitty console controls on PC was just infuriating to try to walk around.
Blech. I was planning to buy this, but there's no way I'm shelling out $60 for a visually remastered game from 2011. I already own the original on PC. I wanted to be able to play it on my huge TV while sitting on my couch, but now it seems pretty pointless. Why the hell would anyone buy this for PS4 now?

You can totally hack Skyrim with that tutorial, instead of "Hello world" just type in "Skyrim Hacked".
This is not relevant to the console mods because Bethesda vets every mod they put on Bethesda.net for Xbox One users. Every Mod on Fallout 4 on Xbox One has two vetting processes before a customer is given access to it. Once by Bethesda to even have it included on Bethesda.net and once again by Microsoft. An Xbox user can only mod their game through Bethesda.net approved Mods. They can't just open Edge and download a Mod from Nexus.
It was a joke.

It was a cash grab by bethesda anyway. Anyone who is wise would already of put plenty of hours into the game over the last five years no matter the platform.
I have a pc so i had all the good mods but the ps4 console version wouldn't of been anywhere near the same as the pc mods.
Bethesda is asking Sony to disregard their way of managing their store, for 2 titles, one is a remaster and the other one wasn't a hit. I wouldn't have done it out of the principle. Despite what people like to believe, corporations aren't ran by what outsiders prefer. Microsoft on the other hand is desperate to say yes to anything to help them sell their product; yes to PC/Console play, yes to cross-play, yes to free modding and so on, the list is long. Lots of games have free DLCs on the store, how come Sony allows them to exist? Saying they wanted to monetize this and failed is wrong in my opinion
PS. AFAIK there are confirmed XB1 viruses and none for PS, maybe I'm wrong but I guess one of thoses yeses had open the gates for uninvited guests.

Might be worth checking out the options you have for casting to TV. (Free upgrade if you own the full PC version of course). An NVidia graphics card and NVidia Shield is one option, XB1 is another etc.
If Bethseda really want to support "the fans of its games" they could take the mods, incorporate the content into their games and release them as a formal patch. End of problem.
This is not Sony's game. And if Sony say yes to Bethseda shouldn't they say yes to mods for EA games, and Activision games and maybe even little indie start up games?
And when fans of Fallout, Skyrim - or whatever - are unable to play because of the hack that got in through a mod for little indie game who would get the blame. Sony or the indie company, Sony or - just Sony.
This is the right call for Sony to protect the entirety of their customers. And Bethseda can - if they want - get these mods into the game. But I suppose they don't because it would cost them - Bethseda - money. But hey no foul on Bethseda right lets dump on Sony. Hmmmm.
Honestly, it makes sense on Sony's part. It sucks, but makes sense. If someone writes something that breaks things for others, all hell would break loose. They have to maintain some sort of control.
2. Can't monetize it without political fallout - already getting flack for the PS4 Pro being a weaker platform than the XB1.
This is a bit off topic.
Where did you get this idea from? The standard ps4 is more powerful than an xbox 1 and the ps4 pro says its gpu is 2x as powerful as a standard ps4. Unless you're compairing the PS 4 pro to the unreleased in development xbox scorpio

Easy to blame it on Sony.
