what character is equivalent to Lucio?

Lucio has an AOE heal-over-time that can be switched to a speed-boost, and both can be boosted.  He has slow moving projectile attacks and a secondary attack that knocks players back.  His ult is an aoe-shield.  He wears roller skates and can wall ride.
They don't know how to create a few unique characters?  Of course they do, anyone who would think otherwise is being silly.  You have to realize that valve and blizzard aren't really friendly with each other.  Which surprises me they never sued Overwatch.  Because Blizzard surely tried to sue over DOTA.  But its like a software pirate getting mad because someone stole his hard pirating work.  Overwatch is just a pirated version of TF2 with a few modifications.  Blizzard cannot do anything about Paladin, because if they do then they are admitting that what they did was also illegal and it opens them up to being sued by Valve for copying TF2.
Ok so you were just lying when you said that every champion from Overwatch has an equivalent kit to that of TF2?

Nobody is getting sued, dude.  Both Overwatch and Paladins are significantly different from TF2.  What's funny to me is how similar they are to eachother, and why HiRez went in that direction.
The only difference is the fact that Overwatch has more champions then TF2.  Which would obviously make it different at some point.  Like I said there is no way Blizzard can sue them for copying when they so clearly copied TF2.  And the relationship between TF2 and Paladin makes it look like they are run by the same company.  Paladin actually calls some of their skins TF2 skins.  You cannot do something like this without copyright infringement.  Which means they have some kind of deal or they are owned by the copyright owner themselves.  So they have every right to copy TF2 whereas Blizzard had no right and they copied just about everything from TF2 but added their mods.  This very well could be a ploy to draw Blizzard into trying to sue.  And you cannot for 1 second say Blizzard has the right to sue Paladin but Valve does not have the righ tto sue Blizzard for copying TF2 the way they did.
You should actually try and play Overwatch sometime.  I'm sure you'll find it is actually significantly different from tf2.

But Overwatch copies from TF2 and Paladins as well. They took Brawl mode from HI-rez in Smite.

They made golden weapons after Paladins added weapon skins.

They added a flask throwing healer after Paladins has Pip. They

They added Reinhardt after Paladins had Fernando many months earlier playable.... its not as if they saw all Overwatch guys first.

I mean I play both games, but I played Paladins beta before Overwatch was ever playable at all. Both games took ideas from TF2 and modified them and are taking ideas from each other also. Who cares?

Paladins is free and as fun or more fun than Overwatch honestly and once its fully finished its going to be a nice game as is Overwatch.
Wait so you're saying Reinhardt is a copy of Fernando?  That actually Blizzard was watching Paladins development and copying from them?

Ok you think because they slap a different skin on something and give it a different name then its not the same thing anymore?  Maybe you never played TF2 or you just don't remember but the inspiration is too close to call different in a lot of cases.  From copying the same game modes to the same classes.  Notice that Every single character in TF2 has an almost perfect clone in Overwatch.  Even the game modes are the same.  I mean you escort a vehicle and it stops and the players have to get it going again.  From that to overtime to even how the page layout of the champ selection is the same.
Are you onto something or just on something?

Notice in Overwatch there is a game mode where you escort a vehicle and if it gets destroyed then you repair it.  If it doesn't reach a certain point the clock runs out.  It reaches every checkpoint and more time is added.  You can also go into overtime if certain conditions are met.   This same exact thing in TF2. Word for word.  And people saying this isnt a clone.

Nothing you stated there is correct.  Blizzard said they used some Titan assets but the games were completely different.  Besides, Titan was a closely held secret that even today nobody outside of Blizzard knows the exact details of.  So you think that somehow someone at Hi Rez was able to sneak in and take a peak and bring that over to Paladins?  The development schedule for both games is roughly the same.

Shooters are going to have some similarities.  It's inevitable.  There's enough differences separating the two (Paladins uses a deck based skill system and everyone gets a mount to ride) that they should be judged on their own.  It's also hard to take the OP seriously when he has Tracer as his avatar.  Clearly he has no agenda or bias.

Is a man not entitled to the herp of his derp?

Remember, I live in a world where juggalos and yugioh players are real things.

There's no doubt they copied the payload game mode.  It's a good game mode idea.  That's what Blizzard does, it takes good ideas, copies them, and polishes the hell out of them.

Overwatch certainly took some ideas from the 10 year old game, TF2, and polished them up.

Paladins is also taking some of the same ideas, but it's not polishing them.  The graphics suck, the gameplay sucks.  And it's also copying ideas from Overwatch which was just released.

It's like they're trying to do the Blizzard thing but failing miserably at it.

In any case, you can't patent game modes.  You can't patent character's kits either, but it's just weird that HiRez is copying Overwatch in this way.  It's like they want to have a ghetto version of Overwatch.

There definitely was copying going on- the soldier kit, that turtle guy, fernando and the dwarf among others are way too similar to be a coincidence.

As for bias- I do love Overwatch.  It's probably the coolest new game I've played in years.  I also love HiRez though and want Paladins to be good.  It's not though (I played it in closed beta) and this copying just kind of screams low class.

Yea they either copied Overwatch or TF2.  Blizzard should sue them for copying their original game.  Oh wait...
Not sure where or why you would say this.  No one in here (prior to your post), or in the video, said anything about suing.  Blizzard wasn't involved with the video and does not control what people say.  If anything, you only acknowledged the video's satire with this response as the truth of the matter.  Which makes me believe you either hate Blizzard or love Valve, since you put Paladins in front of the bus with that (in hindsight of reading your future posts).

Is Team Fortress unique?  I can think of quiet a few games that are team based shooters on small objective based maps, dating as far back as 1996.  TF2's character designs and abilities aren't exactly clever, either.

OOOOH  This is interesting.   Paladins is directly linked with Team Fortress 2.  So it is Overwatch who is guilty in this scenario.
What was this in response to?  Insistence on not letting the issue you created in your head drop is making me believe you're trying to push an agenda of some sort.  In addition, cross promotions aren't exactly new, and does not mean games are directly linked with each other.  FFXIV had cross promotions with Phantasy Star Online, Dragon Quest, Yo-Kai watch and DotA 2 that allowed for items or appearances to be exchanged in both games.  I believe DotA had a Chocobo and Moogle special for pre-ordering a Squaresoft game on Steam at one point.  But I guess that means they are all directly linked now.  Also, how does that make Overwatch guilty of anything?  Like.  Literally.  How.  Even in fantasy land.

This is too good OP. I just subscribed. lmao

I think Blizz might be able to sue this one.
They hurt themselves by destroying their original concept back in Alpha by jumping on the Overwatch success bandwagon.  It's the same thing that went on with WoW; WoW took a lot from other MMOs at the time -- specifically Everquest -- and put the money and expertise behind it that allowed for a wider audience, thus the genre gained popularity (and hundred of clones).  Overwatch is many times more popular than TF2 as a result, especially since they brought it to the console crowd and revitalized it after such games as Quake, Unreal Tournament, Tribes, etc. and the like had been forgotten by the current generation.  Though, as a whole, Blizzard has no right to sue; they very likely don't even care about a potential #3 when they are the head of the MMO, Card, Hack N Slash, FPS Team Arena and RTS genres.

Blizzard is a horrible company now a day ^___^

Apples and oranges.  Though how is Blizzard a horrible company?  In my opinion, they're a horrible MMO company that didn't give a shit about their customers during WoD.  Though their Diablo, Starcraft, Hearthstone, Overwatch, etc. teams are pumping out new stuff.  They keep on making movie trailers for Overwatch, Diablo is being kept up to date nicely, and they're supporting Starcraft with new missions.  Half of that is free of charge, in most cases.

Though I'd agree that the first incarnation of Diablo III was horrible, and they completely destroyed their Diablo modding community with it.  However, the modding community of SC2 is incredibly strong and supported by Blizzard.  That whole Starcraft Universe mod, Armies of Azeroth, Diablo 2 Curse of Tristram, Starcrafts mods have been given exposure by Blizzard's twitter and main sites, even.

They aren't the same company they were, but they still aren't what I would call horrible.  There are companies that actively try to screw you over, rather than deliver a polished game that may or may not be to your taste.
    Heretique said:
Both are really fun (IMO). Overwatch is definitely more polished for obvious reasons. Either way, both games aren't original in their concepts, so who cares.
Quite.  Paladins had potential before they started to alter so much after Overwatch.  Personally, I'd probably play Paladins before Overwatch because I have FSP games, and Paladins is free.

I would like to mention once again.  That Paladin is in league with Team Fortress 2.  They are not in league with blizzard.  That is what Blizzard gets for so blatantly copying another game.  You can unlock Team Fortress 2 skins by playing Paladin.  They obviously have some sort of agreement going that they never had with Blizzard.
And this matters, how?  This is relevant, how?  This is just reaching, and not dropping the issue.  Trying to find something where there is nothing.  Honestly, even taking into account the person you quoted, this response makes no sense.  You're just parroting yourself on something that is frivolous.  This is rhetoric.

They never sued Overwatch because there was no reason.  Contrary to your writing, most successful and business savvy companies don't try to get "revenge" on one another in such a way that could entangle them in legal fees and loss of profits.  There was no ripping or pirating of any software.  At all.  Not even a little bit.  Zero.  Zilch.  Nadda.  Nothing.  Every asset blizzard made, was from scratch.  Taking inspiration from something is not stealing, so long as there is no actual asset stealing.  Exceptions being blatant and overwhelming copying of a character's likeness.  And honestly, I don't see how Tracer looks anything like Scout.  Both are fast, but Tracer's design is different and she controls time.  And having fast scouts isn't something that is new or clever.  At all.

In addition, the legal entanglement between Blizzard and Valve over Valve allegedly stealing the name "DotA" from the community that had owned it for many years prior was settled between the two.  Whether they wanted to or not, whether they wanted money originally or not, they protected the rights of modders (which they have a history of doing, minus overly anxious lawyers sometimes), by making it so Valve promised never to sue any modders that used the "DotA" tag in their games, provided that they don't use it for commercial purposes.  As a part of the agreement, Blizzard agreed to change the name of their game.

In every legal document I read regarding that case, Valve is the bad guy.  Though that's me being bias as a member of several different modding communities that get picked on and bullied all the time.  Blizzard and Bethesda and Larian are really the only ones you can trust in that regard.  Projekt Red may be good guys with it, as well.  Though I haven't done anything with their games.

With this, you confirmed my initial response about throwing Paladins under the bus by coming to the conclusion that Blizzard -- who is dominating the MMO, RTS, Card Game, Hack and Slash and Team Based arena markets -- even gives a rat's behind about Paladins or Hi-rez by saying it may be a ploy to try and get the top dog to sue.  Or that there's some magical companionship between Hi-Rez and Valve.  Naturally, Paladins would try and get in with a promotional deal with Valve.  While the video the OP put in his post was making fun of the situation, many people now know that a free Overwatch clone exists.  Personally, I'd play free over playing a crappy FPS Team Arena that costs $60.

It's all marketing and promotional deals.  Nothing more.  A jab at Blizzard?  Why?  For what imaginary reason?  Why would a TF2 Skin existing in a game that blizzard doesn't own, be an attack at Blizzard?  I mean, seriously.  I guess Valve made a jab at World of Warcraft because they had a Promotional deal with Square Enix (Despite Yoshi-P being on friendly terms with the Blizzard Devs -- showcasing a signed D3 box that the devs gifted him when they met at a convention and exchanging ideas on in-game cutscenes).  Which happens to have three MMOs on the market.  Even though the deal was with DotA.

"...makes it look like they are run by the same company."

I just... honestly cannot fathom...  What agenda are you pushing here?

Because Overwatch has been in testing since 2015 and was announced first, Hi Rez made Paladins as a reply to Overwatch and wanted to directly compete against Overwatch.

Look for some reason I get you are someone who loves Blizzard and thats cool.  But your obvious bias is wrong here.  Blizzard did not try to protect modders with what they did to Valve.  Blizzard was mad because Valve paid the modders for their work.  Blizzard wanted to take it by force without paying for it.  Do some homework.  Now you can viciously defend Valve because according to your way of thinking they are the ones who are protecting you and Blizzard is trying to cut your head off.
Are you onto something or just on something?

It's quite obvious if you're not a Blizzard fanboy:

Valve made a deal with HiRez secretly that they could use their patented payload gamemode and they wouldn't sue them for it.  They then told HiRez to copy a bunch of Overwatch characters, to prod Blizzard into suing HiRez.  Once Blizzard does, BLAM- Valve sues THEM for using the payload mode without their permission!  Genius!

All this 'who copied who" discussion with multiple replies has again proved to me what i already know: that nowadays we have copmletely forgotten the meaning of gaming.
Is the game good? Is it fun? Does it have good gameplay? Mechanics? These are the questions that ppl should be asking. At the end of the day if a game is good(or not) why does it matter if it copied someone else? Are we concerned about copyrights or are we trying to enjoy games?

  • 13lake13lake Member UncommonPosts: 719
Paladins was announced in 2013, ... and overwatch was announced in 2014. Also paladins had a playable build for non friends and family earlier than overwatch had one, ...

paladins was in beta before overwatch came out, so im not sure who have copy who actualy.

got both overwatch and paladin and honestly they are pretty much the same lol... and paladin free.
when i got in the mood for these type of games often im loging more into paladin that overwatch now.

overwatch you kinda die way to fast, in paladin you fight alot more before die because you got more hp, so for me that kinda more fun.

added info about both games releases :  It was released in May 2016 for overwatch and for paladins : Closed beta phase began on November 17, 2015

they annonced the games before overwatch too

blizzard are the one who copy everyone guys :) dont forget it
The only part of your post I would like to refute is the last sentence. Blizz does not copy, they look around, see what people like, and then put that in a nice easily accessible package. Business genius actually, and obviously it works.

As far as the original topic, yeah lol wtf HiRez, go buy an idea somewhere. Fix Tribes, or something.

If you want a new idea, go read an old book.

In order to be insulted, I must first value your opinion.

This site collectively lost their shit over Witcher 3, which isn't at all original.  Compared to Witcher 3, Overerwatch is the newest thing since sliced bread.

Important thing is quality- Blizzard spends months developing heroes and maps, and it shows.  There are tons of awesome details that add up to an amazing gameplay experience.

Paladins feels like HiRez is throwing darts at a dartboard and pooping out the result.

If you want to talk strictly originality, Battleborn was probably more original than either of them.  But the game freaking sucks.  Paladins is more "original" with pointless mounts and hearthstone cards that add game-changing RNG to a skill based game (yey?).  But it sucks.

Paladins is like when you go to a Chinatown and buy a Rubbix Cube.  It's like a Ruik's Cube, but the lead-painted stickers fall off.

paladins was in beta before overwatch came out, so im not sure who have copy who actualy.

got both overwatch and paladin and honestly they are pretty much the same lol... and paladin free.
when i got in the mood for these type of games often im loging more into paladin that overwatch now.

overwatch you kinda die way to fast, in paladin you fight alot more before die because you got more hp, so for me that kinda more fun.

added info about both games releases :  It was released in May 2016 for overwatch and for paladins : Closed beta phase began on November 17, 2015

they annonced the games before overwatch too

blizzard are the one who copy everyone guys :) dont forget it
The only part of your post I would like to refute is the last sentence. Blizz does not copy, they look around, see what people like, and then put that in a nice easily accessible package. Business genius actually, and obviously it works.

As far as the original topic, yeah lol wtf HiRez, go buy an idea somewhere. Fix Tribes, or something.

I love how people point at Hirez for copying stuff from Overwatch and completely ignore how much Blizzard copied from TF2.  The way Hirez is making TF2 skins for their game makes me think they are actually working together for the same company or something like that.  Meanwhile Blizzard copied a bunch of stuff and never got permission and never gave Valve any money for it.  The funny thing I actually watched the video and everything he was crying about that was copied is actually in TF2.
Are you onto something or just on something?

OK, well then all shooter games are copies of other shooters and they should all pay each other for using their 'unique' ideas.

I love how people compartmentalize their passive aggressive BS. TF was not the first shooter game with multiple game modes. They stole the idea from HALO, or BF, or any of the other games that were out well before TF or valve was even a thing.

If you want to like how people point the finger, then you should look in the mirror because you seem to only want to speak to one side of the story. Where does it end? Spoiler; It doesn't.

Taking good ideas and using them to make a better game, is no new thing and it should not be frowned upon, what I was saying in my other post is: Palidens wasn't just taking ideas and systems, it is almost an exact copy of OW and it only became that way after OW released. As someone earlier pointed out, it was going a different direction in Alpha/Beta then all of a sudden took a really hard to turn.  Weird huh.

There is a difference between using a good idea and exactly copying another game.

On a different note, I love tribes, it is an awesome game and was a Hirez mostly original idea. (shooters being the not unique part) I wish they would stop ignoring it and do some hard work on that IP and get it back to what it once was.

If you want a new idea, go read an old book.

In order to be insulted, I must first value your opinion.

Dude I am responding to the OP who is pointing the finger at Paladins incorrectly.  Then you started defending the OP by pointing the finger at Paladins yourself without even knowing.  That Overwatch is the one who copied stuff from Paladins and not the other way around.  Then you tried to say Blizzard was defending modders when in fact it is Valve who hired the modder to make DOTA2 and Blizzard who tried to stop them and claim the name for themselves without paying for it.  Get educated bro.
