After the backlash I've seen since the announcement and release of No Man's Sky and reading these forums for a couple of years, I was interested in knowing if you guys felt No Man's Sky/Hello Games is the
worst case of false advertising you've witnessed.
I apologize for adding another NMS thread, but I needed to use the poll feature.

If the core game would have been able to provide a fun experience for people longer term instead of people just getting bored and quit, I don't feel this would have happened, not on this scale.
So this is a complex situation, it's by no means just the fact X number of advertised features are not on the game.

Brink was by far the worst case of false advertisement I have ever seen. The only game I ever trolled hard on any forum I could find mention of it. The shittiest pile of shit ever shit out of a shitty developers shithole.

OMG! Black and White was Peter Molyneaux too!!!
Did he ever do anything that didn't fall short of what was promised?

TBH for me it worked fine, it just wasn't what was advertised.
Also, I don't see the hate towards Fable or Spore. Am I missing something? Both games were awesome.

Syndicate
Populous
Theme Park
Magic Carpet
Dungeon Keeper
Those were all great games.
To be clear, I loved Fable and Godus even though they weren't as advertised. It's not like he's putting out complete shit.

Please do not respond to me, even if I ask you a question, its rhetorical.

Yep, he sure did. There was a time when Molyneaux's reputation was solid. TBH, even Fable 1 & 2 were very solid games, despite some minor features not making it in.
I hate NMS and i'm still pissed i gave them my money.

The main people that seemed to over-hype were games reporters. For some bizarre reason they all got hung up on the procedural generation technique and the nearly unlimited number of planets to visit. Its like they all forgot that procedural generation had been around for decades and always ends up producing the same sort of results (theoretical endless combinations, but mostly producing very similar results).
I'm usually pretty OK with most advertising and hype trains. They all exaggerate and lie but I can read between the lines easily enough. For me, the top spot for false advertising would be a tie between WAR and SW:TOR. Both those games promised some excellent things during development and kept saying that certain features would be in, endgame would work certain ways etc. Come release, both games were missing a lot of stuff that was promised.

Now that I suffered facing the reality that my withrawal rights are virtual (they are there but in practise they are almost non-existent) I will become much more skeptic than I used to be.
When you take that cynicism, pessimism and selfish thought process and use them to filter anything said by someone who wants something from you that is when you start to see through the bull shit spewed by marketers and advertisers. That's when you start to see that their own cynicism, pessimism, and selfish thought process allows them to not tell you everything about a product in an attempt to get you to put your money in their pocket for what ever they are trying to get you to buy.
Part of my cynicism, pessimism and selfishness looks at your poll and wonders why you only asked for others to post their reason for voting negatively in the poll. Why didn't you include this for the other options in the poll? My cynicism says you did it for ulterior motives. That you were doing your own form of marketing.
