Is debate impossible amongst your more hardcore computer game crowd?

Allow me to guess at the more hardcore computer game crowd, probably male, probably teens - 40, probably find it a little more difficult than most to relate to others, probably leaning towards the Aspergers end of the spectrum, probably find social interaction a little uncomfortable...

Probably see the anonymity of the internet as an opportunity to express their opinions without the recourse they know they otherwise might suffer.

Probably lack humour that most people find amusing.

Most importantly, probably lack the self awareness to realise that most of the above describe them...

Are these the best placed people to debate anything?

Literally doing exactly what you're speaking out against proves your own point. Seems like you're right and wrong and the same time. Congrats.
"As far as the forum code of conduct, I would think it's a bit outdated and in need of a refre *CLOSED*"

    ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Debate works when it's moderated actively - like a presidential debate for example.

Forums don't really have debates - it's usually a lot of players resorting to ad hominem attacks because they can't fathom that someone might have an opposing view that is equally as valid.

But there are exceptions and sometimes there are civil discussions here.

Usually it's just people who tend to focus too much on the poster and not on the *content* of what is being said.

Well, my post might be described as a rather abstract ad hominem. But your second paragraph is important, because (and I am plucking figures out of the air) for ever person that wishes to debate, there seem to be 100 who wish to silence them through noise/ fake offence and general twattery.

    Such is the internet.

No, it's not impossible but maybe rare.  It is an open forum that anyone can join and is dedicated to people that play video games. The more highbrow stuff is probably located elsewhere and the internet is a big place so maybe peruse some other forums until you find some worthy debates. Most of what you will find here will be gamers discussing video games and it sounds like you may have some contempt for that group of people.

Way to load a forum post with some insults to the demographic that you assume makes up the majority of these forums.

The Pub is for discussion of MMO's, not how, or what other people post.
