Current favorite MMO is Archeage, or atleast before it went heavy P2W. All the off-combat activities it offered and how the world felt so alive. I guess I can't experience it again for a long time for now, until someone pulls something similar.

I guess it would be my first MMO, UO. The raw full loot open world pvp experiences, vibrant economy, and excellent RP communities really opened a whole new world of online gaming for me.

my favorite remains lineage 2 pre-goddess.

nothing will ever beat the large scale battles, the thrill of the pvp, the first raid bosses you did with your crappy gear and your small clan, joining your first alliance and killing your first world boss, taking part in your first siege, getting hero on your character, etc.
your character was a part of a world and your action actually had consequences; death was harsh and could cost you several hours worth of experience if you didn't have a rezer nearby.
if you pissed off the wrong people, you could end up on a kill on sight list and even start a war against your clan.
if you were reliable on the other hand, people would actually look up to you and invite you for big raid bosses, party exp, etc
if you were a good and reliable crafter/scavenger, you could end up being the richest guy on the server.

no factions, just good old mmorpg on a massive scale with no instances.
it was horribly grindy though but my goodness was it worth it.

my old favourite mmo was Aion. This game was super grindy when it was first launched and also very cool with the wings. I might check it again in the future. I still have it installed on my pc.

My favorite MMO was World of Warcraft WOTLK.

Dark Age of Camelot. Because the RvR was fun as hell and still is hands down the best.

    EQ2

The PVP server launch was Epic. I joined a 4x raid of Freeportian's to cross Nektulous under the protection of group stealth with the intent to thrash some Qeynosian butt. Halfway through Nek we froze in place when we suddenly encountered a 4x raid of blackened Qeynosian outlines. We stared at each for what felt like lifetimes. Someone twitched. Chaos ensued. Almost everyone was obliterated by the horrors of Nektulous Forest before they even laid a blade on the enemy scum.

Like 3 of us made it to Antonia. Camped there for weeks...

Those were the days of faction pride, when you played the game and the game didn't play you. That's why EQ2 is my favorite.

I first love was SWG. The game was fun, but the people made it great. Such an awesome community that game had.
Though I don't play it anymore, WoW was the game I put the most time. I was lucky that my friends from SWG went with me.
The last MMO I played was Eve. I'm currently taking a break from it. Had alot of fun doing missions with freinds and sitting on teamspeak chatting while mining. Good times.

Picking one MMO as my favorite is really hard. It is almost like picking a favorite food as I have so many, and if time allowed I would enjoy them all.

However, to answer the question, I would have to default to World of Warcraft. I was fairly young when this game came out (14). It wasn't my first MMO by any means, but it was the first that seemed to fit on an epic scale. I enjoyed 40 man raids, and explored an open world that I have had trouble finding in the world of MMOs now. The lore is top notch, and I have characters that I have grown to love/hate. I have favorite quest lines (with some being removed in Cataclysm), and favorite zones. The PvP has a nostalgia factor as well, and it always feels so familiar. Blizzard's art team is always exceptional, and has crafted a unique art direction that can only attempted to be copied time and time again. Also, I have been a rogue main since 2004, and Legion hasn't changed that for me.

I know that WoW has been the recipient of both praise and hate, but I always know what I am in for when I sub back.

To touch on a few others, I loved Conquer Online back in the day. The PvP was really great, and with such a small community it was easy to have rivals. Not to mention the guild wars were extremely fun. This was prior to it going hard Pay to Win (this game is the definition of Pay to Win).

Additionally, I know Monster Hunter isn't an MMO, but as an MO it is one of my all time favorites. The armor progression, and boss battle mechanics have been hard for me to find in an MMO. Additionally, the design of each monster and its corresponding armor is so fluid.

That's about it for my favorite(s), and I look forward to many others in the future that I can add to this list.

I'm currently MMO-Homeless but I've enjoyed many games from LOTRO to Shaiya. Messing around with Project Gorgon right now.

Age of Conan because it was my FIRST MMO and I loved the graphics, violence, and story line. Also I am huge fan of the Conan franchise. I love the fact that healers in AoC are BADASS MOFOs :)

Everquest 1 was my favorite and will always have that special place as it was my 1st 3d MMO. It is funny, I hated it in beta and swore I would never play it but ended up playing for about 5 years. I have went back a few times for progressive servers but it is just not the same as those early days running around East Commons.

I'm with you! EQ1, in many ways it was kinda awful, but it was also so fun. Nothing like it. Wish there would be a EQ3... sigh... I recommend Project:1999 now though, it has Daybreaks, (or whatever the new owners are called) blessing so it's not un-lawful now. It's actually run better then the official version was by many people's judgement.

After having played 34 mmo's in a 17 year span, the idea of choosing a "favorite" is no simple feat. Yet, if I had to choose one I would pick my first mmo, Runescape. I started playing Runescape Classic when I was 9, an age when most other children were playing much less complex games. I found myself immersed in an alternate world for the first time, and it served as a safe haven for me to escape what was a rough childhood.

What followed was my first encounters of making friends, doing quests, joining clans, grinding levels, earning money, and simply living a second life in all it's glorious aspects. Don't get me wrong there was plenty of downs as well, including being scammed more than a few times, loosing expensive gear in heart throttling semi-loot pvp, and taking risks that didn't always pan out.

I returned over the years to play Runescape 2 and Runescape 3, even when there was no other reason besides that it was my first home away from home. Thanks to Runescape, I've now lived dozens of lives, encountered thousands of friends/guildies, and accomplished such heights in game that have given me the confidence to accomplish things out of game.

Original Everquest is my all time favorite MMO, easily, because it was hard, diverse, required teamwork and helped me forge so many friendships!

I'm going to say Lineage 2.

It was the first mmo to capture my attention. I recall my first day of play, I knew it was a full pvp game so I was constantly expecting attack from every direction. I finished the first few grind quests and then was directed to enter Dark Elf Village. I still recall coming through that small tunnel and then beholding the arm in the distance with the lightning descending to the hand.

I went up to it and saw that there was a huge statue under grating with its arm thrust toward the heavens. It was at that moment I realized that the world I was to spend the next 4+ years in was far more interesting than I thought.

That day I'd go on to get pk'ed and to then take out a pk'er. Which was exhilarating at the time.

I eventually would get lost, die and then be even more lost (I dropped my map on death and spawned at some unknown town) as I made my way through spider infested areas back to dark elf village (shout out to the person who helped me defeat those spiders!).

Whether it be the first time I beheld the Sea of Spores (and learned that Orfen could detect you from very far away and would follow you to the gates), the time our alliance marched up the Tower of Insolence to take care of another alliance that pk'ed our people (the throng that went through the tower decimated everything in its path) or the largest siege I was ever a part of; a full 2 hours. We had around 26 clans and they had a bit more. The first onslaught brought my computer down and then I spent the next 2 hours fighting right up to the end when they decided to make a push in the last few minutes.

We lost but it was one of the most amazing mmo experiences that I've encountered.

Didn't hurt that a buddy of mine was bringing me beer throughout as another friend who didn't play games watched with utter fascination.

It was a game of friendships, of players helping and hindering each other and simply an amazing set of experiences.

    I have been through a few when I had/have the $:

EverQuest, then EverQuest II, then a year or two in LoTRO, back to EQ 2, some DCUO (not very good at combo mashing), some Neverwinter, STO, dabbled in Age of Conan, etc.

I will always have a heart for the EQ franchise. I remember my first day in the game, looking around amazed in Freeport: "this is all online? ...these are people running around? How do I tell the difference between a player and a npc?

My favorite MMO is Lotro. I have played since beta and I love how it follows the books and the movies. I will be so excited to see how they handle our march into Mordor.
The music and scenery is breathtaking. I made friends in LoTrO 10 years ago and we are still together.

My favourite MMO is WoW. I met so many of my friends through WoW and a lot of great memories and all around fun were made over the many years. I stared back in Burning Crusade and got hooked in no time, in fact there are nights when my buddies and I will ramble on about the good old days and whatnot, been so many years and we're still amazed at what new experiences, content, etc Blizzard keeps dishing out.

I will go with Tera, Dungeon crawler with action combat.. gear dependent, but still allows for some ability of the player to show.

For PvP Aion, something about the atmosphere and zones seems to make it make sense.. and have purpose.

Favorite MMO = World of Warcraft.
Because of the graphics and colours. It always makes me feel cozy, even when there is -30'c outside.
Maybe that's why it's the only MMO I keep coming back to

    Guild Wars 2.

I've played many a MMO and all of them have something that makes them special, but GW2 takes it a step further. You feel immersed in the world like its a real one. NPCs around you speak and talk and you feel yourself entering that world and watch it evolve over time as if its real. Add in a unique playstyle that is very action packed and some of the best visuals of any MMO and its a recipe for one of the most memorable games you will ever play.
