The original 2006 game was ~40,000km2 (though only about 50% of that was available to non-GM/staff). The earliest statement for the 2016 DnL about the map size was 8/15/2016 which was the quote I used in the Dragnelus' image from Discord. There may be earlier comments out there, but those are probably bad translations from Snail's official Weibo page.
The comment in October was hopeful, but pragmatically, the flags were up as soon as UE4 was named as the engine, which were further compounded by the qualifications from Snail Games given afterwards about the survival element. It's been leading to a non-mmo game from the start. It doesn't help that the official DnL facebook states "
Dark and Light, a fantasy-style survival PC sandbox MMO reboot from Snail Games, immerses players in a vast UE4-powered world of unlimited magical gaming."
All we can do is wait, or go do something completely different, until we can see for ourselves the player cap and map size of DnL. Or... we can speculate endlessly
We'll have to wait for something like Dual Universe to scratch the "single persistent server, massively multiplayer" type itch. Hopefully DnL turns out to be enough fun to keep folks entertained until then.
Here is what you are going to find in D&L. Constant need to eat and drink, limited character storage only augmented through expensive store purchases, if that sounds fun to you, I would have to think you have masochistic tendencies.

I'm fine with it. In swg you had to eat +buff and do downtime activities like going to a cantina and doc to heal wounds. As far as storage space, every game I have ever played I had issues with storage space due to being a hoarder. I really don't mind downtime stuff, it's where good communities are made and it weeds out the deplorables who eventually give up because they can't wtfpwn all day with no interaction beyond trolling in chat.
If these are fake screenshots, or edited pre-rendered screenshots (like Witcher 3 and Watch Dogs). We will know what the game REALLY looks like, because steam has a new rule that you can't show fake screenshots. Must be what the game actually looks like. This is a HUGE benefit to the consumer. If they fail this rule, many people will report the game and Steam will take it down for false advertising.
With that said. I assume this is what the game will look like on a good PC, and it looks beautiful. I don't see a reason to show off an amazing game, only for everyone to get it and realize the game is nowhere near as good as they showed (again Witcher 3 and Watch Dogs). That only makes people do steam refunds (I know I would) and they lose money, and steam wouldn't be happy with them.

Actually I would prefer the need to eat and drink. Heck, I even use a mod in skyrim that requires me to eat and drink.
Funny enough, a friend of mine only ever plays one type of video game; Elder Scrolls games. That's pretty much it.
And he constantly says that he feels characters should have to eat and drink (he won't use mods).
So he's not even much of a gamer and he still wants some sense of realism.
Like Skyrim? Need more content? Try my Skyrim mod "Godfred's Tomb."
Everything geographical in a way sounds no different than say lotro/wow etc for dwarves and elves. When will developers think differently about where and why races should be placed in such a world, most people I would say will take a read and go oh hello game of 2006 or so.

Don't worry too much, I'm sure there'll be some "convenience" items in the Cash Shop that will reduce the need to eat and drink...

yep, and i am sure they will be selling the first addon before the game releases

Wow... can't remember the last time I was excited about an MMO's world. I'll definitely get in, the exploration alone justifies the price tag for me.

Just a quick update
to say that the pack has been verified with 4.14 and everything seems in
order. As per the last update, if you notice something broken, let me
know and I'll get to fix it as quickly as possible.

They decided NOW to drop the procedural generation and hand-build the world instead ?
So, 4000 sq km instead of 40,000 ?

Dark and Light's Dwarven race makes their home in Zaharul, a massive city carved out from the inside of an enormous mountain.

Also, here's a little nod to Snail Games which are using this pack in Dark and Light! https://twitter.com/official_DNL/status/799537761145462784 & https://twitter.com/official_DNL/status/802082042481475585
If you're using the pack, I always love to see what you guys can come up with! Don't hesitate to send me an e-mail or just leave a message here.
Have a great week-end, WDigital
