Heal ever since I tried finding groups for alien content in Anarchy Online and always found them within 5 seconds.

Let's just say I have been defaulted to healer because the three friends I play with like either tank or DPS and no one seems to like the supreme responsibility of healing
I like support as kind of an ambiguous way of cross classing. Support classes generally have abilities that are a blend of a few options, some support can heal and apply defense, some can use crowd control and do DPS, support can come in many forms.
Whoa, a lot of healers out there. I play them all probably like most people do. The pressure of healing really difficult fights get my heart racing more than the other roles.

Nothing compared to the feeling of a Tank on 10% Health hoping the Healer will manage to cast that precious heal just seconds before he dies.

Yeah, lol. These are the moments that make me love MMOs.
Something like an EQ Necromancer. Nothing else exists on the market outside of EQ2, which makes a lot of games unplayable to me. The theme, the flexibility, the variety in skill/spell repertoire. Nothing else has this.
Basically depends on the game and class mechanics, but I usually prefer a hybrid like DPS / CC (e.g. mage in WoW vanilla / BC) or Healer / DPS (i.e. a healer that can heal via doing damage). I'll generally go ranged over melee, and least favorite role is probably Tank, but I do enjoy Paladin in FFXIV for some reason.
In the MMORPG I created (Wyvern), I noticed that quite a few players like to play a "merchant" -- they go farm items and then sell it at auction. They choose Tank or DPS or whatever to do the farming, but their true calling is basically to set up shops.
@MikeB -- might want to include that role in your next poll!

in a way all the classes are dps, and the best dps (read as 1vs1 class) classes are usually healers since they can out heal the damage done to them, and dish dps back.
soemtimes healers can even handle 2vs1 in certain games, and do enough damage to take out a regular cookie cutter dps class.
I like pure dps class roles, but it seems for them to work against tough targets like tanks or healers, you need to gank with other dps on a single target.
For example a healer and tank combo would be much easier to play than 2 damage dealers. If they would fight against each other. And things become more cookie cutter in a sense especially in ranked pvp, where good players vs good players have to play the right classes in their groups.
Write bad things that are done to you in sand, but write the good things that happen to you on a piece of marble
I'm quite surprised to see so many fellow healers here
/thumbsup
Yeah I'm kind of questioning this. Theres only 3 explanations I can think of:
1. People are checking healers because DPS seems too boring of an answer. 2. People who DPS aren't voting in this pole. 3. For some reason the MMORPG.com forum goers have a disproportionatley high ammount of healers.
Because there is no way that more people like to heal than DPS. People practically fall over themselves to get you in their group / raid / guild when you say you're a healer. I know in ArcheAge guilds that have an equipment point requirement to join generally drop the requirement by 1000 points for healers just because they want them so bad.
I played a DPS in Everquest and when I found it hard to get groups from that moment on I played healers or support. I have always enjoyed it so much and in games like City of Heroes/Villains where you can combine Healer and Support like a gravity/empathy controller I am very happy indeed or playing a red mage in FFXI with a bit of healing, debuff and buffer ,I am in high heaven.
It entirely depends on the game and the game mechanics. There's no way that I would ever choose a healer in WoW for example, but in Age of Conan, the Bear Shaman healing class is my favorite class in the game for overall fun.
In Overwatch, I'm not too hot on the DPS characters that they came up with. They're all pretty generic, but Zenyatta? Oh man, there's nothing better than getting a gold medal in heals and a bronze medal in damage plus having arguably the best debuff in the game.
I guess what it really comes down to is what I like to call "The Toolbox". In the movie Ronin, Sean Bean asks Robert DeNiro what gun he likes best. DeNiro says "It's a toolbox, you put the tools in for the job". That's how I like my characters in any game to be, a toolbox of choices for any given scenario. Games that don't have a utility character generally don't entertain me for very long.
I liked the complexity of Rift and Archeage, and Path of exile , up to a point, i had no idea what i play. Rift bursty fire mage offhealer as secondary role with a push of a button or
Archeage stealthy pvp nuker, or pve tanky mage
Path of exile? ***** Dont get me started
Flying naked monk shooting cold rays that ignite enemies , teleporter that you can not follow with your bare eye summoner that is in fact magic find auror ,that makes alies fight at 500%
gazillion other bulilds from which i mostly liked permafreeze which is selfexplanatory
Theres a reason why people play dps but dont really like dps too much. In terms of raids, if your a tank or healer your expected to show up because its harder to find someone to fill in for. If your a dps signing up for raids, your easily replaceable if you don't show up. People who cant get on as often usually go dps out of respect for the rest of the group.
The acronym MMORPG use to mean Massive Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game.

I'm surprised to see anyone thinking of PoE~ To be fair, I've so far always found it extremly difficult to wind up as a true support/aura character if you don't got a regular group to run with. If you're alone or run with randoms, it can be a pain to try and make them understand what you're doing (Unless they're veteran players that know for example what someone means by saying they got a magic find build). So it's kind of less stress-inducing to just run around as "DPS" and smash mobs, instead.
At least in this game you can literally do whatever you want and try your best to make it work. Plus the feeling when the game notices that you go full cold-damage and decides to only throw mobs with high cold-res at you.. because reasons.

I think it is the most demanding Class and I like challenges.

Used it on players too, pushing ,imploding, impaling, stunning pulling them on one place in pvp, while my allies dps them, really makes it ridiculous.
