RNG. Some randomness is good, and players shouldn't just be given everything first time, but it's far better if there are systems in place that allow players to skew the odds in their favor (e.g. a mechanic in crafting that increases the chance of high quality / critical success) and / or guarantee success after a certain number of attempts (e.g. tokens to buy gear (even if it's just DKP to 'buy' drops)).
I am surprised so many people hate or don't care about quests since they are the core content of almost every MMO. Not surprised MMOs are in decline, maybe developers should do a little more in dept market research before making a MMO.
It's ironic that the feature that requires more work and consume best part of the development budget is the least liked by the players. Out of touch much?
I hope OP isn't in the business of making MMO games, because this poll seem silly, as if seeking to confirm ones bias against some aspect of MMO games, from the point of view of a producer.
RNG. My gosh, I really hate it. I wish there was any MMO without random numbers (Big Buzz Fly drops Fly Nose, Fly Filth and Fly carapace) or with RNG where it is not important (Big Buzz Fly has 33% cahnce to drop Fly Nose, 33% chance - Fly filth and 33% chance - Fly carapace). But now, we have to kill 500 rats to get that rare armour piece. To kill same dungeon boss 125 times to get that jewell. Or farm 1 ton of flowers to get that rare one. Remove RNG and online games would be way more attractive/
Rep grinding, one of the "boring" bits of MMO's Blizz swore to remove when WoW was in development, and came back with a vengeance when Burning Crusade released. And Daily's, and the kit grind, and a bunch of other stuff best left unsaid.
Easily questing for me (as it appears in most mainstream mmos), for the following reasons:
Games are a terrible medium for telling stories. You either get a tight story at the expense of gameplay, or a shit story with good gameplay. Neither works for me, I'd rather read a book for story and have the game focus on gameplay.
Quests themselves are usual dull - kill X, collect Y, visit Z. It's rare to get a quest involving interesting gameplay, so most quests just serve to guide your gameplay. I'd rather choose my own path.
Quests are by far the quickest way to level, often the only viable way. This leaves me feeling forced down a path I don't enjoy, so I just try to blast through it so I can reach the enjoyable endgame.
Over time, quests have resulted in quest hubs, making them feel even less organic and even more like a grind.
I would honestly much rather play a game that forces me to just grind mobs to reach level cap. At least that way I can choose where to grind, who to grind with, how hard to push myself etc.
Crafting is second on my list, I've never enjoyed the crafting process. However, at least I can choose where to gather mats, what I want to craft, whether I want to play the auction house or not etc. Crafting itself may be dull, but at least I'm in control.
Currently Playing: WAR RoR - Spitt rr7X Black Orc | Scrotling rr6X Squig Herder | Scabrous rr4X Shaman
for me it rep grind locked behind a timed wall, such as comeback tomorrow for 1000 more rep an you need 50k rep to max it, it's needless padding content to try stretch it out.
i don't care if someone maxed it all out in a day an it takes me a week, as long as it my choice.
Exp grind, Gear grind, Rep grind.. Exceptionally good points.. Knew I should have mentioned those or "grind" as an option.. Thanks to all who pointed them out..

Working towards the creation of one, actually.. My apologies if you don't like the poll or the levity I tried to inject into it.. I will say, I possess no bias against any MMO aspect (although, full disclosure, I was very anti-PvP long ago.. I got better)
Again, this is not about bias at all.. Its about viewpoint.. Specifically, not just my own.. Sure, a dev has to see their own vision and stick to their guns when creating.. But, ignoring the player-base's reaction to established game aspects is ludicrous.. I don't seek to eliminate any aspects.. I seek to evolve them..

Farming tokens for NPC vendors who sell unique items. Korean mmorpgs do this so much. Even GW2 relies on this mind numbing mechanic, when you reach high enough level and decide to do dungeons, fractals or raids it inevitably becomes a tedious token farmer job. I absolutely despise it.
Dailies and any other repeatable content. Especially solo content.

Questing is definitely a big one for me. Most MMOs put very little to no effort at all into their story. All the quests end up being just a repetitive "kill/fetch" formula repeated over a thousand times until a player reaches the end-game. It's one of the most disappointing aspect of MMORPGs today.
Most people aren't willing to admit how much they just absolute suck at playing games. Especially MMO's.
"Let's put 20 people together that we don't even know and pit them against challenges they will never complete!"
Questing takes the cake though. Shouldn't even be called a "quest" a mission, maybe task, but not quest. Collecting 50 moose butts is a task, not a quest.
Quests should tell a story, involve an adventure, and require critical thinking. Not "Here is exactly where to go, what to do, and how to do it."
Dailies! Yeah for logging in everyday and working my second job
"Sean (Murray) saying MP will be in the game is not remotely close to evidence that at the point of purchase people thought there was MP in the game." - SEANMCAD
Crafting, to be honest. It is such a ridiculous time sink. But, at least, I like the games where at least you can craft the best items, rather than grinding some obtuse dungeon for one specific drop.
Farming/eating/drinking - Any MMO where you have to invest any time in these 3 areas is a pain, especially if you can die because you dotn eat or drink...Ive never found one MMO where this was fun.
That was my "Other", too. Players are just not the same anymore. Nearly anything can be fun when like-minded players get together. Now, without player interaction (or very limited), the usual activities start getting noticed as a solo player.
Also, Dailies were not mentioned. For me, this is the worst "invention" ever.
Not questing entirely, but level appropriate questing.
When i can pull 10 mobs at a time and feel powerful, thats great, when i have to slog through quests and get knocked off my mount or have to fight my way to the objective mob by mob, i get bored.
I enjoy either speed or challenge in questing, unless each individual quest mob is really challenging, dont make me fight 10 random unimportant mobs slowly to get there.
Constantly being told what to do and the lack of variety from game to game...
Yeah, questing is part of the being told what to do thing but it isn't all of it. In a MMO you usually only can solve any problem in a single way and that single way is usually just killing everything you see in a specific order. There is no reason to use wit and solve a problem, just kill it without a second thought.

I don't care how many times devs say they're optional, they're not if they help you improve your character even a tiny bit.
