2K. 4K doesn't seem worth it on the size of screen I prefer (27"). It is a huge upgrade from 1080p though. 2560 x 1440 on a Dell screen.

1440p with a 27" g-sync monitor and a gtx1080.  I'd love to do 4k, but maybe I should get a 4k TV before worrying about a 4k monitor.  I also think 4k gaming at near max settings is still a generation off in terms of hardware - gfx card, 75+Hz refresh monitor, etc.  Maybe Vega or a 1080TI will have the horsepower.

Played: UO, AC, Eve, Fallen Earth, Aion, GW, GW2

    Tried: WOW, Rift, SWTOR, ESO

    Future: Camelot Unchained?  Crowfall?  Bless?

I did not think I would be the more popular one. Felt it was too low for sure.

2k on a 1080 monitor.  I've been playing around with nvidia's upscaling, not sure what to think yet.  I'll probably stick with 2k but eventually I'll do it on an actual 2k monitor.

I do the same in some games. I play ESO, for example, rendered at 2715 X 1697 (don't ask... that's what nVidia GeForce experience set it to :) ) and downsampled to 1920 X 1200. The visual quality improvement is noticeable and the performance hit is minimal since ESO is not really GPU bound,

I think I will hold out a little longer.  I'm running a GTX 970 and play at 1920 X 1080 (except for ESO rendered higher and down sampled like Iselin).  I almost upgraded to a GTX 1080 and a 4K Monitor, but figured I would wait for Star Citizen to launch before upgrading the card again.

    27" 2k 144hz for gaming

    42" 4k 60hz for simming

3x 1080p Monitors is how I play most of my games.  I could upgrade to 4k, but I value the extended peripheral vision in my games over higher resolution to be perfectly honest.  Especially in racing games, where it's non-negotiable to be able to see out of the side of the car and check your mirrors.
I really enjoy using a TrackIR for this.

The answers listed here are pretty poor choices.  Most are vertical sizes, then 2k and 4k are horizontal sizes, with (as some have noted) overlap.  Specifically, I've never seen a 1440 vertical with less than 2k horizontal.

It also leaves out one of the key factors regarding in game resolution choices, which is aspect ratio.  I've seen a lot of 21:9 users out there and even many AAA titles do not support it.  (3440x1440, 2560x1080 or 1720x720)
