Well, if you don't like Elins, I assume you weren't playing the game to begin with. This notice is for people that played the game before and enjoyed it, but stopped for whatever reason.
Wrong assumption and as you can see by the other comments, other share the exact reasons and experiences. I'm sorry my comments don't fall into the hopeful expectations you wished, but I was being honest with my opinions based upon what someone had said.
How is it a wrong assumption? If you hate Elins, how could you possibly play TERA for any period of time? 95% of the population is Elins.
That's nice you were honest with your opinion. I have noted your irrelevant opinion that you don't like Elins. Thanks for stopping by the thread.
Actually I understand the exact point the OP was trying to make, just like many others in this thread. You seem to be annoyed people don't like Elins. Many people dislike the Elins and play the game, not only using this thread but Tera's forums as well. Still people manage to play the game. Clearly your condescending tone shows you had an emotional response to a irrelevant opinion. Seems like a contradiction to me.
It's just annoying that every thread about TERA has to get hijacked by Elin-haters. It side-tracks any kind of discussion about the game. Like this post, for instance.
It's just a waste of time. Yes, I know some people hate Elins. That isn't especially new or helpful information.
Don't act all innocent. People are talking about it at least partly because you said in your OP: "and there are Elins, which of course as everyone knows is a great thing". I think that was a deviously clever thing to slip in since it was bound to attract attention and comments given people are obviously polarised about that race.
For the record, I played Tera from closed beta and for some time afterwards. Its one of my favorite mmos, but I hate Elin - all the more so because they get all the good new classes. The other thing that bugged me about Tera was that chat was so filthy, the worst of it being players promoting paedophilia. Awesome combat system though, and the BAMs and boss fights were the best.
Fact of the matter is that pedophiles really do exist. And guess what game they are going to play if they like mmo's? So you have basically created a community that invites them and their lifestyle with open arms.
I can assure you that no children were molested in the creation of Elin entertainment.
But to address your witchhunting seriously for a moment, wouldn't it be better for pedophiles to indulge their fantasies virtually than in the real world? Wouldn't it be much better for them to spend their time admiring Elins than admiring kids in chatrooms?

You are giving pedophiles what they want to see.
I mean, not really. But even if you're right, isn't it better that they see it in a video game rather than seek it out in real life?
As for why they got 2 exclusive classes, I just think Bluehole is just catering to their audience. Like 95% of the playerbase plays Elin. If they're going to make an exclusive class, it's only logical it be Elin.
Of course it would be better not to have exclusive classes at all, but hey, can't have everything.
95% of the playerbase playing Elin becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy (well, that's not the exact term but I forget the exact term. Unstable Equilibrium? Argh, whatever) when most of the new classes are Elin-only.
I don't understand why people say Tera isn't as actiony as Blade & Soul, Blade & Soul was a tab target game made "actiony". You can't really miss an attack in Blade & Soul, Force Master is full lock on. So many abilties are lock on. It plays like WoW with combos and no tab key.
It is why bots work so freaking well in BnS, because of the hidden lockon mechanics.
Yep, you're right. I actually forgot how much lock on there is in BnS. None of my skills that I actually use in PVE on my sorc lock on in TERA.
This, and the self-rooting, result in misses, which is why the PVE is actually hard at the highest level. I have a feeling all the people claiming the game is easy never tried a dungeon in the top 3 or so in the queue.
A game that is bad until you get to the endgame is a game that is bad, period. I shouldn't have to spend months slogging through stupid stuff on the off-chance that a game will be the first one ever to have an endgame better than the leveling content. Competent game developers who have interesting content for their players to do don't hide it all off in the endgame where hardly anyone will ever see it.

Huh? Almost every MMO has sucky boring leveling. Difference here is TERA doesn't have sucky boring dungeons at the top.
Ideally yes, I'd love for an MMO to be thrilling throughout the entire game. Let me know if you ever come across one of those.
Just to be clear, TERA is the only MMO I've ever played where I really enjoyed the PVE endgame.

1. Why isn't this in the Tera forum? 2. Tera had its chance with the U.S., and failed. 3. Gender-locked classes in games suck
There is a report option, if you care enough to be polite about it. Until then the mods just assume that the community is willing to deal with the OP, or ignore the thread if they don't want to (there really aren't that many off topic threads right now anyways).
I think Looking For Game is a better fit myself.

I played in all 3 CBTS and played exclusively till the F2P conversion. I always hated elin and refuse to play the 2 classes that are exclusive to that race. if you enjoy them, good for you. But you definitely made an ass out of yourself assuming that.
By "hate" Elin, I mean "you think they are child pornography and morally wrong". You can see from the comments in this thread there are some people that think that.
Clearly you don't think that if you played the game for awhile.
No, I don't think that exactly. For me, I always exclusively play male characters. So I hate any gender locked classes. The majority of people I played with played Elins because of the hitbox advantage. Rarely did I meet anyone who actually loved them. Elin were never a big enough issue for me to not play Tera. I just got distracted by other mmos and games I suppose.
I will even most likely go back at some point to play again. After all I have 4 level 60s (I realize the cap is higher now, but that was cap when I played). I'm just annoyed that yet another class is Elin exclusive. I exclusively play Amani with every class. I wish they would get some love. They are one of my favorite races in any mmo.

I can't agree with this, it is a mental disorder that needs researched and treated. Pedophilia doesn't mean a person has committed a crime, we can't police people over thoughts, it is a slippery road that one.
However I think the topic is straying to far from what is acceptable on the forums.
Serial killers have a mental disorder as well, but they are just as deserving of a bullet in the head. But feel free to continue to defend pedos.

I'm defending people who've committed no crimes and advocating they get help but because of people like you they can't.
Getting help with a problem is fine. If that person has these feelings and wants to get help I'm all for it. The second that person acts on those feelings and hurts a child. Their life is forfeit. I think we are on the same page now. Sorry for the miscommunication.

That is pretty much exactly why I hate Elins: I really dislike their "look", they have smaller hitboxes, greater range on attack/movement animations, and on top of that they then get the best new classes.
I actually remember getting an email from enmasse about the Reaper class around the time it came out and thought it would be great to check out the game again, but then couldn't actually believe that the new class was only for Elin. The stupidity of it just blew my mind.
Far from being a draw card, the whole Elin thing just pisses me off.

Its like the developers have a pedo problem. I mean why do such a thing in the first place? How in the hell do you make a child race and lock it into the new class called Reaper? Unless you got some sick fantasy and want the game full of the sexualized child race. Then they turn around giving them advantages in pvp. Yea thats not weird at all.

The cute girl anime look is big in Korea (apparently), so they are catering to their main player base (that's the explanation I was given on the forums when I asked about it anyway).
Holy shit we are going to exterminate people that look at Elins now.
So.... spent a couple hours yesterday doing lower-mid tier dungeons. Lots of fun. People dying all over the place, really cool boss mechanics.
The point is I just started late last week with my 65 and already doing cool stuff. So TERA is super easy to get back into...
The bosses are truly epic. When I last played though there was something of a gap between about level 20 to level 35 with no dungeons (I forget exactly, but I remember having to grind mobs for ages before the next dungeon opened up). Is it still like that?
Edit: Oh actually I see, you are playing from level 65 so probably wouldn't have noticed.
Personally I liked Elins, I find them to be super cute, ofc that is easy for me to say as a girl. I've always liked playing loli-type characters, since I find it fun to smash huge monsters with a tiny toon. ^^
That being said, I'm not sure if the OP is making an attempt at advertising or what. I mean, Tera was fun while I played it, sure the combat is great, but there really is no other content. The real problem for me is that the entire endgame is based on RNG "enchanting", meaning you get complete idiots who were simply lucky wearing +15, and highly skilled players who are passed over because their RNG wasn't as good as someone else's. This is where the rampant elitism in the game (imo, ofc) really comes into play, as the community demands that you be fully geared/enchanted before most of them will even sniff you. Why anyone would farm and farm, only to have the fruits of their labors disappear in a puff of unfair RNG smoke, is beyond me, but to each his/her own.

Another reason why Elin is their most popular class now is probably because most of the people who want to play other races left after being frustrated with how much the Elins got (better smaller hit boxes, range, more exclusive classes) while their own races were forgotten.
Meanwhile, advertising seems to focus primarily around Elin lately from what I've seen (In part because so many new exclusive classes are for Elins but sometimes just for the hElin of it), which means that the vast majority of new players that trickle in to Tera will be the type that like Elins too while those that like other races in MMOs won't play Tera because the marketting touts it as "Elins!"
Again, it's all a self-fulfilling prophecy/unstable equilibrium/self-perpetuating thing.
It's probably not very good for the overall potential player base Tera could have been having, too, because it's gradually getting more and more niche (Elins!!!) rather than attracting a variety of player tastes. Still, it's not like there's much left to milk out of such an old game anyways either way, I suppose.

It's probably not very good for the overall potential player base Tera could have been having, too, because it's gradually getting more and more niche (Elins!!!) rather than attracting a variety of player tastes. Still, it's not like there's much left to milk out of such an old game anyways either way, I suppose.
Or... TERA has secured a niche with Elins. I mean, on mmorpg.com, looking at an Elin is grounds for arrest or execution. But for some people, they just like them and think they're fun and unique.
If they had replaced Elins with Orcs, would TERA still be around? I don't know.
I will tell you that playing my Elin sorc and fighting an epic battle against pure evil huge monsters is a very fun and unique MMO experience.
As for milking an old game, the endgame is even more fun than when I played years ago. Game is old for sure, but the graphics hold up very well and the combat is as sweet as ever..
Another reason why Elin is their most popular class now is probably because most of the people who want to play other races left after being frustrated with how much the Elins got (better smaller hit boxes, range, more exclusive classes) while their own races were forgotten.

If the orcs that replace Elins have the same advantage with hit box and range. I would say that Tera would be advertised as an "Orc" mmo. You seem to fail to understand that the popularity of this race has little to do with it's identity. Just like any other game, if there is competition (PVP/PVE) and one race gives an advantage. Even a small one, the player base will play it for that reason alone.
I said this before and i'll say it again. Very few players I played with actually liked the race. Being on a PVP server they wanted to take every advantage they could. Elins provided that and they welcomed them. If Elins had the same exact hitbox/range as the other races. It wouldn't be so heavily populated.

My point is that clearly Bluehole considers Elins a boon to TERA. Would TERA still be around if it was an "Orc" MMO? I don't know. Might it have done better? Maybe in the NA region (still questionable- did NA have room for yet another orc mmo?), but probably not in the Asian region.
I don't think the game is "unstable" because it's centered around Elins, I think it's niche and stable after 5 years in part because it's Elin-focused.
Bottom line is, if you don't like Elins, don't play TERA. You will see them everywhere. And it's not going to change.
I would suggest lightening up a bit, though. I mean, I can't help but laugh at the idea of hardcore pvpers forced to play little girls for a slight edge in pvp, even though they despise it.

If you can't imagine pvpers using a race for a small advantage you must be new to mmos. Every single mmo i've played that had race abilities/perks that ones that had the best advantage were ubiquituous among the pvpers. I personally don't care about the small advantage and always play what race I like/prefer. But go ahead and laugh all you want. Since you can't seem to see past your own interest in the race. I laugh at the fact that you think Elins are loved by majority of Tera players. You clearly don't have your finger on the pulse at all.

I honestly don't even know what you're arguing about at this point. You think the majority of TERA's playerbase is hardcore PVPers that hate Elins and that's why there's a lot of Elins?
I find that hard to believe. Most of Elins I see standing around the trade broker using heart emotes on eachother don't strike me as hardcore PVPers that hate Elins.
But ultimately I don't see why it matters or how it has anything at all to do with TERA being easy to get back into if you've been away for awhile.

Ideally yes, I'd love for an MMO to be thrilling throughout the entire game. Let me know if you ever come across one of those.
Just to be clear, TERA is the only MMO I've ever played where I really enjoyed the PVE endgame.
2. Tera had its chance with the U.S., and failed.
3. Gender-locked classes in games suck
I think Looking For Game is a better fit myself.
Practice doesn't make perfect, practice makes permanent.

So.... spent a couple hours yesterday doing lower-mid tier dungeons. Lots of fun. People dying all over the place, really cool boss mechanics.
The point is I just started late last week with my 65 and already doing cool stuff. So TERA is super easy to get back into...
Edit: Oh actually I see, you are playing from level 65 so probably wouldn't have noticed.
