Aka the wow clone, where you can hit level cap never really needing another player. Or is this more old school where while you can solo its slow as hell and very inefficent (as soloing should be in a mmorpg) and its based more around forced grouping to level and such. I am kinda sick of WoW and its ilk, you know the whole quest solo from lv 1 to lv cap cuz the game is a joke stuff. I haven't really been following this game much since I figure it'll just be another mmorpg thats exactly like wow, just in a diffrent skin.
Being a pessimist is a win-win pattern of thinking. If you're a pessimist (I'll admit that I am!) you're either:
A. Proven right (if something bad happens)
or
B. Pleasantly surprised (if something good happens)
Either way, you can't lose! Try it out sometime!

Plus the Developer stated that this is going to be an Old School MMO.
Basically It's going to be a revisited modern version of DaoC, the name itself should have been a big clue.
So long story short. There will be areas within your faction that will be relatively safe, but anything worthwhile will require more risk (ala PVP.)
For me the biggest hurdle this game will have to address from a game design perspective is player participation and what to do if player population drops, since fighting other players will be the main content for this game.
Rather than build a PVP model around the traditional PVE grind which precedes it (which even DAOC largely did) they are pretty much going to toss the player into a competitive RVR environment almost immediately after joining the game.
Should play out very differently from most titles that precede it and is one reason it is one of the two indie titles that I've backed. (alpha since original KS)
In fact, I don't even like PVP, (well not since DAOC) but I did like the concept and hope it will change my viewpoint in this modern era.

"Over the decades MUDs evolved from their mostly solo-friendly roots to the first generation of MMORPGs (Meridian 59, UO, EQ, etc.) where group play was not only encouraged but quickly became a necessary component to leveling up characters and gaining the best gear. More recently, the genre has further evolved (or devolved, in many peoples’ opinions) to where solo-play to level cap is not only possible but can be the most efficient way to do so [...]"
"Thus, part of our job as the designers and developers of CU is to put systems in place to create interdependency that encourages players to work together so that they not only have the most fun but also enjoy the quickest ways to success within the game."
"Whether it is working together at a crafting station or fort, trading goods with other players, having well-defined class roles within a group and other such design elements, we want our players to get to know their realm-mates and by working together to in turn foster a true sense of community and Community. I believe that by truly doing so we can bring back an element of earlier MUDs and MMORPGs that the preceding years have greatly diminished."

Hard to believe the OP read about the game before asking. Bet he just popped in any posted the thing he thought off without looking.

Though I am worried if it will be totally open rvr, since there are times you just wanna get something done without getting ganked by someone 2 or 3 times your characters level. Though at least we won't have to worry about people in our own faction doing this, so that will cut it down somewhat. Game sounds promising, but then again alot of these open pvp games ended up flopping due to partly the reason I said. I like my pvp, but not a fan when its a free for all in a mmorpg. Then again, I don't really mind as long as I am not going to drop my gear when I croak. :P

But yes, you will not drop gear. There is only decay.
Naw, being snarky to others on the internet is almost a hobby for some folks it seems, this thread has several it appears.
Wait...I just did it too
