So is this yet another single player mmorpg?

Aka the wow clone, where you can hit level cap never really needing another player. Or is this more old school where while you can solo its slow as hell and very inefficent (as soloing should be in a mmorpg) and its based more around forced grouping to level and such. I am kinda sick of WoW and its ilk, you know the whole quest solo from lv 1 to lv cap cuz the game is a joke stuff. I haven't really been following this game much since I figure it'll just be another mmorpg thats exactly like wow, just in a diffrent skin.

Being a pessimist is a win-win pattern of thinking. If you're a pessimist (I'll admit that I am!) you're either:

A. Proven right (if something bad happens)

or

B. Pleasantly surprised (if something good happens)

Either way, you can't lose! Try it out sometime!

Being a PvP centric game I can't imagine being a Single Player MMO......
Plus the Developer stated that this is going to be an Old School MMO.
Basically It's going to be a revisited modern version of DaoC, the name itself should have been a big clue.

The focus of this game is closer to Dark Age of Camelot.  It will be more about group PVP and territory control.  There will also be resources that need to be gathered out in the world to help build bases and fortifications for your faction.  There will be three sides (factions) in the game.  You will have some people that you will not be able to attack.  In WoW terms it's like Alliance vs. Horde vs. a third faction.  There will not be the usual quest grind to the solo MMORPGs you may have played.  Experience will be gained by PVP, crafting and some PVE.  The PVE is more about killing for resources however and there will always be the threat that people from the other faction can attack you.

So long story short.  There will be areas within your faction that will be relatively safe, but anything worthwhile will require more risk (ala PVP.)

For me the biggest hurdle this game will have to address from a game design perspective is player participation and what to do if player population drops, since fighting other players will be the main content for this game.

I'm not expecting CU to play very similar to most modern themeparks, and really I'll be surprised if it resembles DAOC all that much.

Rather than build a PVP model around the traditional PVE grind which precedes it (which even DAOC largely did) they are pretty much going to toss the player into a competitive RVR environment almost immediately after joining the game.

Should play out very differently from most titles that precede it and is one reason it is one of the two indie titles that I've backed. (alpha since original KS)

In fact, I don't even like PVP, (well not since DAOC)  but I did like the concept and hope it will change my viewpoint in this modern era.

One of the foundational principles of CU is socialization:

"Over the decades MUDs evolved from their mostly solo-friendly roots to the first generation of MMORPGs (Meridian 59, UO, EQ, etc.) where group play was not only encouraged but quickly became a necessary component to leveling up characters and gaining the best gear. More recently, the genre has further evolved (or devolved, in many peoples’ opinions) to where solo-play to level cap is not only possible but can be the most efficient way to do so [...]"

"Thus, part of our job as the designers and developers of CU is to put systems in place to create interdependency that encourages players to work together so that they not only have the most fun but also enjoy the quickest ways to success within the game."

"Whether it is working together at a crafting station or fort, trading goods with other players, having well-defined class roles within a group and other such design elements, we want our players to get to know their realm-mates and by working together to in turn foster a true sense of community and Community. I believe that by truly doing so we can bring back an element of earlier MUDs and MMORPGs that the preceding years have greatly diminished."

This game is nothing like you think it is.  Its siege warfare you dont run around and collect chicken legs and kill rats for NPC's to level cap then run the same dungeons for gear its nothing like WoW.

its pretty obvious the OP took no time to read about CU himself before posting , none at all , or wouldnt be asking the foolish questions in the post , or even the title ....smh

CU is not a WOW clone in almost any way other than being a fantasy themed MMO. You can try to RvR solo if you want (and I might be one of the ones trying to do that myself), but it will by no means be the easiest way to play since you will frequently find yourself fighting more than 1 enemy.

Hard to believe the OP read about the game before asking.  Bet he just popped in any posted the thing he thought off without looking.

How about you get off your lazy butt and read the game's FAQ on their site, or the many articles on this site?  That would save you time in making a pointless thread and others time in reading/responding to said pointless thread.

If it does resemble daoc so much I will be a happy camper, I am so sick of todays mmo's all feeling more like a crappy single player game (since you really never need anyone else).

Though I am worried if it will be totally open rvr, since there are times you just wanna get something done without getting ganked by someone 2 or 3 times your characters level. Though at least we won't have to worry about people in our own faction doing this, so that will cut it down somewhat. Game sounds promising, but then again alot of these open pvp games ended up flopping due to partly the reason I said. I like my pvp, but not a fan when its a free for all in a mmorpg. Then again, I don't really mind as long as I am not going to drop my gear when I croak. :P

Yep same designer, though he did make WAR as well, so I really hope it's going to be more DaoC and less WAR.

Odd wish for a pvp game.
But yes, you will not drop gear. There is only decay.

You know, no one forces you to respond to the OP, you could ignore it and move on right?

Naw, being snarky to others on the internet is almost a hobby for some folks it seems, this thread has several it appears.

Wait...I just did it too ;)

In Camelot Unchained there's no "character level" or experience points. Veterans will indeed be stronger than new players, but the difference of power will be way lower than in most MMORPGs. There are areas on the map that will be safer while other places will likely be hot spot for PvP. Since it's a RvR game, the chances to get ganked repetitively are not as high as FFA / no faction open-world PvP. In CU basically a third of the server pop. are allies by default and can not attack you. If someone stays around the Realm's main city I expect that the chances to get attacked by the enemy players are pretty low.
