I'm a little surprised to find that people would give John Smedley money upfront for a video game. When was the last time he actually completed a game, 10 years ago?

I find it interesting to see so many enthusiastic voices of people I deeply respect on this forum.

"Donations" instead of using the own money, Smedley and his reputation...
Did I miss something that should give me faith in this man and his project?

Well , it was only 15$ so i got it.

Its basically what EQ Next was planned to be + real old school vibe. All made in easy cheap production pixel art.

The whole game is easily done with real small team. And they really have lot done all ready.

On other hand no surprise no "investor" is picking it up. Its pixel graphic , and it does not ring as big money return project, but indie game.

I am afraid that Smed is too used to big bucks, and he might abandon it now. Which would be a shame

If he does actually abandon it w/o giving refunds I doubt he'd ever be able to put his name on another game ever again. It was unclear( and still is) how much of the stuff that happened at SOE was his fault so people like myself were willing to give this game a chance, esp since it was only $15, a 1 month sub in most games.

While I knew Smed had some mistakes in the past, I really doubt he will abandon this one. I don't think he really THAT stupid. This arguably is the last bet he has in this gaming industry.

I believe he eventually will make it. What I don't believe is his ability to meet deadlines for every feature he promised. That's why I rather wait the final product with full price intact.

For the fact that he sought another source of funding, I dunno, maybe he was trying to extend the scope?
