Just out of curiosity, does anyone know how much it would cost to make pre-alpha demo videos like the ones Ashes of Creation has?
The cost for combat skills, models, trees etc. etc. functional enough to get in-game solo player to record some gameplay. (with graphics and mechanics exactly like these)

There's actually some useful stuff in all of those. From CrankTrain it mostly goes through someone seeing how far they could take a school project, and then fulfilling the "minium requirements" that this site has, along with how expensive content actually is. over00 is just a down to earth writer that also talks a bit about money/scoping/similar, along with some advice that runs contrary to normal advice (from someone who has actually worked on such a project) (and has way more to look at if you search). The devmaster post talks about the development and handling actual running of an MMO (including exploits). The HookRace devs talk about architecture and nerd stuff, for instance they expect to run 400 people on a $10 VPS (though they don't have NPCs, but do have a higher fidelity physics system than most MMOs).
