NA Server Locations are a Joke. They are in a Texas DC using Level 3....

So I thought I give the game a try being in Canada. Just outside of Ottawa and omg... 270+ Ping... This was outside the game on the game port. So I dug through more. Their using Level 3... As a server administrator for both game servers and websites you don't use level 3 unless you are running trash as in crap bandwidth really bad routing it's beyond a joke...

Why would a game company that makes millions pick such a bad DC? OVH for example in Quebec would give lower ping to almost everyone in NA and even be cheaper. It's just an example but why would they pick the worst location and worst upstream provider?

In North America, OVH is a data center and hosting provider with an extremely thin network that peers with multiple partners and is more inconsistent due to this as their route with change regularly depending on peering agreements.

Level 3 is a Tier 1 provider with Dallas being a major hub on the backbone.

    No. Level 3 is a Tier 1.

I'll say it. Because the game is a cheap cash grab and they couldn't give one good goddamn about your gaming experience?
With some the most well designed PvP combat systems...but yeah it could use some work in certain areas.

Not really - but you can keep telling yourself that.

Comcast, TimeWarner, ATT,  heck even Internap is better than Level3 - especially for GAMERS - why because they are the providers that gamers use for their internet, which reduces the number of hops and eliminates having to jump between ISPs.

Don't get me wrong L3 used to be awesome, but they've fallen to almost Cogent levels.
Still a Tier 1. You can tell yourself whatever you want, but Tier 1 is more than gamers like them or that they have a better last mile infrastructure which is all most gamers know or are sold on. If you connected directly to Level 3 you would make no hops between ISPs because you skipped that tier completely. They ride on Tier 1 network. ATT is also a Tier 1. The others are Tier 2s, but honestly, the difference between Tier 1 and 2 is almost negligible at this point. Comcast muddies the whole thing up by forcing peering on some Tier 1s due to all the end users they carry. Even to the point of trying to force Tier 1s to pay them. That was the whole scary thing about the attempted merger with TW.

I will definitely concede that the Level 3 data center service has been getting shittier and shittier. Dallas is a common central choice as far as location though, so it's not like B&S did anything groundbreaking or even out of the norm.

To the original post, OVH is based on bulk transfer at the lowest cost to them with multiple agreements. They can by wildly inconsistent in hops and ping based on what is cheapest at any given moment. Level 3 may not be the best Tier 1, but they are not the best consistently. The closest L3 sites to OVH are Montreal and Toronto and I get about 10 and 12 ms faster pings to them respectively with less jitter. Dallas isn't fair because I'm right down the road from it, but then again, that is the point in choosing a central data center.

Yeah sadly they messed up Blade & Soul it could have been a decent game but as usual (They can't control bots) They drive what few players would have played it such as myself away by installing (Game Guard) without consent and violating peoples privacy, and even that doesn't do its job keeping out bots so their game was just flat out ruined when it could have compete with (Vindictus) and been really good.

But Developers always are ruining the games that could be great.
