New Year’s Resolutions for RPG Fans - General Columns

One more year has come and gone and that means it’s time to start looking forward again. Following a season of Best Ofs, where lively debate, cheers, and jeers mark the year’s end, starting over can be like a breath of fresh air. We’re free to set our eyes on all that 2017 has to bring - and as our list of upcoming RPGs proves, there’s a whole lot to look forward to. Today, let’s make some New Year’s resolutions of our own and make the most of the year that’s to be.

My New Years resolution for gaming is to not purhase any bad games this year.

I have seen this a lot lately ..."i only want positive",there is an obvious reason/agenda behind that and no i don't like turning a human brain into a simple tool,a simple way of thinking.It is like saying.."don't tell the truth or say what is actually on your mind,instead think of something that is fake or just made up to say something positive.This kind of thinking is like saying Junior got the 2+2 wrong,tell him his answer of 5 was close ...sooooo good my lil boy you'll get it right next time.


Also it is i figure two faced to see an industry always pushing advertising on gamer's,lying or deceiving gamer's,than say "just put a smile on".You also do NOT ever help the game industry that way,a developer would absolutely love it if consumers tell them no matter what garbage they sell it is AWESOME,please sell us more.

Point being,there is REAL world out there not some fantasy one and brains are meant to be abstract,to think that is how we advance or get better as people and how games advance or get better.

Instead what i want to hear is,honesty from all and let's tell developers exactly what is wrong with their game so we can improve it.Problem is that does not sell a finished product,devs cannot do what si always right and websites cannot always tell the truth,so there you have it,we are at a crossroads.

So it leaves gaming and discussion up to the more passionate people,the ones with no vested interest in the games.

My resolution this year is to try my hardest to resist buying games period. I have far too many unfinished, and have been burned too many times trying to support games in their EA stages!

I can do just fine having fun playing games without resorting to new year's resolutions.

Avoid EA and wait until they are on sale. You'll save money and have a better idea of what you are getting yourself into.

That was my resolution last year and it worked out really well. I avoided most of the games that were bad and got good discounts on the ones that are fun, after a lot of balance patches and fixes were added by waiting a year or two to purchase. Will continue the don't buy pre-order theory this year also.

i guess my new year resolution will be the same as last year which went very well for me. Don't pre-order video games. That includes paying for early access, beta access, alpha access, founder packages for early access, etc.

So this year I resolve not to be a shit.

And get a new computer to game with more and get rid of this laptop. Also probably produce music.

I find it ironic that the person who could probably learn the most from the "be a little more positive" point is the one railing against it so hard. No one is saying to put your head in the sand. The point is to not be a jerk when you're interacting with others. Not saying you are here, Wiz, but if you read the section, it's pretty clear that you missed or are ignoring what I actually wrote.

Or just do the Farcry 4 alternative ending where you actually listen to the bad guy and wait for him to come back to dinner. It's the only way I completed it, lol.
