I like most of the mechanics that BDO brings. But there's one thing that I hate with a passion - RNG. Almost everything you do/try, RNG runs in the background only to fuck you up. By now I'm on 61 failstacks(!!!) and my weapon keeps reverting back to PRI and refuses to go to TRI. I'm not only talking about the monetary aspect of this problem at all (ultimate awakening weapon, so I can't simply craft it to repair), but the fact that by now I've gone through a dozen tries from DUO to TRI and it keeps failing. Not to speak about the alt who's trying to get the fucking weapon from PRI back to DUO (which went up to 39FS yesterday BTW), while every normal piece of gear I want to enchant to build the failstacks gives me all the luck of the world...

Love the game.
But the RNG is way out of control.
Not even talking about the enchantments which follows a certain logic (fail stack system), but being in everything else in the game is plainly annoying.
Like in the AH for instance.
You could be the richest player in the game, yet you are not guaranteed to buy what you want, the RNG decides for you.
Hours spent in front of the AH trying to snipe an item through the Bid system which is basically a lottery.
So much fun.
I've not had many problems with the auction house "yet". I'm not the richest though as of last night I was #12th on the wealth scale. Going to see how high I can get that and then splurge a small bit.

But the other choice they have is to sell these items in a shop and that would ruin games also.
I dont have any ideas what they can do different, just wish they would some day.
Maybe.. I dont know, let the game itself reward the items people would like, give it to them through crafting.
And if RNG implemented, at least make it look a little less like a company is just trying to make us stick around, milking us, because of our (some peoples) addiction to gambling only.
For instance, going from 1 to 15 I felt was fine. Had the rules stayed the same (not having the item demote if you failed) then I would have been fine.
But after a while I found that managing failstacks was just horrid and then demoting and repairing, it wasn't really my thing.
I do love grinding/fighting and strangely, enjoy fishing so I felt that raising the money for an item, or selling, say, a pri Vangertz shield and making up the difference with my own money for the next level, was more palatable.
I'm also patient.

I think BDO AFK System is genius actually.
More MMOs should implement it IMO.
I redownloaded it a few months later and tried going the "just buy what you want" route, which I think was helped by taking time off because it allowed the marketplace to have a higher stock of items. I knew I would never been in the top 5%, but honestly it was much more pleasant experience just buying whatever I wanted.
In the end though I still stopped playing it even after making the switch. I hit that wall between Media/Valencia where I would have to grind to purchase a lot of new gear before I could even grind in Valencia and I was sick of all of the Media spots so I lost interest. I love exploring in the game and the world is beautiful and fun to experience but after awhile I couldn't go to the same spots for cash every day.
Also for me the AFK systems should be thrown out. Games should not be encouraging people to leave their computers on and logged in for hours upon hours. I think it sets a bad precedent.
I don't go near it,I use the guaranteed upgrade method for weapons and armor and I don't bother with accessories at all since there is no guaranteed method for those items.
Repairing the max durability of an item after each upgrade attempt is already too much of a grind.
Having to fail dozens of upgrade attempts intentionally in order to improve the chance of actually upgrading an item and then roll the dice and gamble is pure 100% sh!t !!!!
Now,that means that I'll never get good enough gear to engage in any short of meaningful PvP where I won't automatically lose 100% of a health bar within 2 seconds of a geared player sneezing near me,but who cares.
In then end,if the choice I have is to either grind my @ss off in PvE for months in order to be able to access the content I'm actually interested in,which is PvP,or play another game, well guess what!!!!
Maybe it's a matter of cultural differences, maybe players in Korea actually dig this and enjoy it.The immense gear grind, the RNG,the power creep.
You also have to see this through the developer's eyes.
Such systems are in place in order to artificially increase the time a player will spend in the game, and boost cash shop item sales.
If you don't like it,but you keep playing it anyway what do you think the dev will do?
From their perspective it's working as intended.
Read your post. All that work and fail stacks for a chance to roll the dice or pull the handle of a slot machine or pick a card.
Where I come from this is called gambling.
Will you keep gambling?
You decide.

I had a very similar experience in ArcheAge, still the best game on the market atm, with the most satanic way to not only devote your lifetime for those fucks, but also your money.
I admit i found no other game to dive in yet.
What ArcheAge offered, is pretty unique when we look at all those games.
But i made it out Wait till you're angry about RNG in combat ^^
I try with Star Citizen atm.
At the End of this Year, it may be called a game already, but what we have today is amazing already
I would love to see some wow style instanced dungeons or just SMARTER AI, or... i don't know, just some variety.
however there are ways around the RNG system,
1: save up the money and buy it, there's usually stuff in stock
2. if you ARE enchanting basically just get 10 to 20x the amount you think you need and you are guaranteed to get at least up to TRI which is competetive, barely anyone has tet/ pen (+19/20), and tri u can get within a month.
even facing players with tet/pen gear (there's hardly any, less than hundred EU, as each pen item costs minimum 5000€ equivalent to if you actually spent real money getting it, and even then no one would sell it to you ingame, you'd have to buy account), you are not actually at a big disadvantage, because additional stats stop stacking at +15, so accuracy, evasion e.t.c, fall off, all these players get is a little extra attack + defense, +10% - 20 - 30% max.
The combat is so action oriented, that if you clearly outplay your opponent, you can still win, if the gear difference isn't too huge.
Asian mmos love their shitty RNG...
Archeage used the same annoying feature that just kills all fun/motivation to keep working on your character.
You would spend insane amount of money only to either break your awesome weapon or downgrade it.
I didn't mind it simply failing, but losing a rank or having it break altogether was absolutely infuriating.
That is actually how I uninstalled. I spent so much time running packs for money only to try and upgrade my chest piece. It had a really low chance of failure but it broke.
That type of BS is not worth my time.
The way mmo's were: Community, Exploration, Character Development, Conquest.
The way mmo's are now : Cut-Scenes,Cut-Scenes, solo Questing, Cut-Scenes...

I used all my stones to get to +15 on my PvP toon and now I sell everything and just buy an upgraded piece when I can. No worries, less inventory, no wasted silver on fails and more fun to focus on.
I enjoy myself a lot more because I do this stuff.
