I'm suggesting, ok no fuck that, I'm outright claiming, its a tiny zygote of the massive amazing game that has been promised. I'm not saying they have no intention of making it happen. However I most certainly am calling them out on how much longer the fans, and more importantly, the actual backers are expected to wait for serious results.
Well I think that if you look back a year, maybe a year and a half, there were serious technical knowledge gaps that needed to be overcome, and I'm not talking about frills, we're talking core technologies, like stuff you can't just back out of and go in a different direction. THAT is when there were valid concerns. I'm actually pretty confident, based on the progress in the past year, in saying that a game is inevitable. I won't go as far as to comment on the quality of the game, but the game itself seems to be an inevitability at this point. I've said it before, and since it's Friday I'll say it again, "All that's left to do is mash the naughty bits together."
I will expand on your last point too, though, and say that it shouldn't be as much how long should they be expected to wait, but how long WILL they wait. The major opportunity for this game sits with release. However, the hype train feels like it's slowing, too. So whether they can even salvage that opportunity at this point remains to be seen. However, I think that 2017 will definitely be a turning point and could be a make or break year. Really, they need to capitalize now or they may only be able to realize a fraction of the opportunity they could have if they struck while the iron was hot.

This whole thing is a good case study for future developers wanting to do something similar. CIG has done a lot of things right, and a lot wrong. Regardless of how the game finally turns out, or doesn't, there's a couple of good lessons to be had.
On the exact topic of the thread, dude was an idiot for escalating a situation, and an ass for turning around and crying foul.
Banning a user in a normal game environment for a good reason cheating, hacking, unreasonable behaviour is a good thing, your userbase will appreciate this.
Banning a user for childish reasons (i.e. movie spoiler) and therefore loose money in your project is not acceptable and should not be acceptable for anyone that is a dime into this game. Every single person who get a refund devaluate your "investment" into Star Citizen. It's not whether or not Spaceship XYZ will be in game on launch - We are far away from this state, if founding stopped today cause the camel's back broke there will be no game, all you get is a nice looking Goat Simulator without goats.
So if you don't like someones opinion and always tell them "well then get a refund" you are damaging this project. If you support decisions like banning and refunding users cause of unrelated content (i.e. movie spoilers) you are damaging the project.
On top of that, banned users go out and are loud (as seen in this case) and try to scare new users off. If the ban was reasonable new users will think "Oh good the company cares for a healthy userbase lets have a look" if not ... well then they'll just stay away. Cause who would spend money on something that can be taken away so simple based on a moderators mood.

In my first email I was more annoyed at the abuse of the TOS with regards to the movie spoiler thing + the attitude that CIG staff had towards my question in discord. I was unsure if I could get a refund, after I asked around only to be told it would be for a full refund, hence why I requested one in my email for one, it wasn’t 100% what I wanted as I would have rather remained a backer, however I was not really comfortable anymore with the level of pledge I had with CIG. After cooling down over the xmas week and realizing my buddy would get dragged into it as my RA package was purchased with his account and with the CIG only do full refunds thing I didnt want to get his account closed as well. By this time I had got wind of people getting partial refunds and I thought it best to ask for a partial refund, something which would have stopped my buddy getting his account closed and I could retain my account with the intention of putting the money back into the project when / if things improved, and such so I thought eh, that makes sense for both parties and it was (I thought) a reasonable request, a request that fell on deaf ears. It was at this point I was fed up with the brick wall that was CS and deicided to try and contact someone higher up IE Chris, hence the google document. While on the subject of the google document it was meant to be for internal CIG eyes only in the original format when I first posted it to Reddit, however since then it has since been modified to reflect that it is a public document now.
Buddy emailed CS and got a reply they have refunded the Rear Admiral package without closing his account, be this out of my initial request or out of spite, who knows but I am thinking the latter as it clearly shows their system does indeed allow for partial refunds, It’s just that they are unwilling to offer such a thing, even when the customer requests it. Maybe it was someone at CIG trying to cover up? who knows,*dons tinfoil hat*. I am just happy my bud didn’t get dragged down with me, sure I took a bullet for this but as long as this kinda stuff doesn’t happen again then nobody else will have to complain or get outed.
also @dsmart I read your portion of your write up about this, Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but you have the wrong Badger. My handle on CIG was BrawlinBadger, while I was indeed an early backer I was not the Badger that is like citizen number 6 or something. Just thought I would let you know as my backer number was around the 13k mark.
Yes I made a mountain out of a molehill but if that what it takes to gets things fixed then it’s all the better for CIG and their customer relations in the long term.

Oh I know it was utterly stupid and I could of just ignored it, but with the resulting shitty attitude I got and the "try me" from a CIG employee made me dig my heels in. Petty and childish? yes, but if they hadn't put such a dumb assed rule down in the first place I wouldn't have even bat an eyelid over it, I could understand removing /chat banning someone from the Discord server for doing dumb shit like spoiler posting, but not an account closure that was "enforced" by the TOS.
The fact that it was put across just as a threat makes it seem like CIG is willing to say anything to keep their backers in check, no matter how underhand. Makes me wonder what else they are lying about, just to please the masses who would rather just sit and take whatever CIG throw at them.
My attitude to going public with it is pretty much summed up in the picture below, while I don't want CIG to crash and burn I do want them to make sure that things like this don't happen again, and as it seemed like they were not going to back down and remove the threat going public was the only way to make sure the RIGHT people in CIG got the message.
I was advised by a few members of the community that going public was something to consider, to make a point to CIG that they need to stop drinking the koolaid and treat their backers with respect and to make sure shit like this doesn't happen again. CIG set a very bad precedent with the TOS being used as a threat which made me really question CIG, albeit it was a threat, but how far does that go? What if next time it wasn't a threat?

Buddy emailed CS and got a reply they have refunded the Rear Admiral package without closing his account, be this out of my initial request or out of spite, who knows but I am thinking the latter as it clearly shows their system does indeed allow for partial refunds, It’s just that they are unwilling to offer such a thing, even when the customer requests it. Maybe it was someone at CIG trying to cover up? who knows,*dons tinfoil hat*. I am just happy my bud didn’t get dragged down with me, sure I took a bullet for this but as long as this kinda stuff doesn’t happen again then nobody else will have to complain or get outed.
also @dsmart I read your portion of your write up about this, Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but you have the wrong Badger. My handle on CIG was BrawlinBadger, while I was indeed an early backer I was not the Badger that is like citizen number 6 or something. Just thought I would let you know as my backer number was around the 13k mark.
Yes I made a mountain out of a molehill but if that what it takes to gets things fixed then it’s all the better for CIG and their customer relations in the long term.
The fact that it was put across just as a threat makes it seem like CIG is willing to say anything to keep their backers in check, no matter how underhand. Makes me wonder what else they are lying about, just to please the masses who would rather just sit and take whatever CIG throw at them.
My attitude to going public with it is pretty much summed up in the picture below, while I don't want CIG to crash and burn I do want them to make sure that things like this don't happen again, and as it seemed like they were not going to back down and remove the threat going public was the only way to make sure the RIGHT people in CIG got the message.
I was advised by a few members of the community that going public was something to consider, to make a point to CIG that they need to stop drinking the koolaid and treat their backers with respect and to make sure shit like this doesn't happen again. CIG set a very bad precedent with the TOS being used as a threat which made me really question CIG, albeit it was a threat, but how far does that go? What if next time it wasn't a threat?

Just give me a Kilraithi Hvar'kann-class Dreadnought already and let me at these garbage scows of ships. Hell, I will settle for a POS Ralari-Class Destroyer. I am sure someone will call hacks against me when it downs four ships at once... even for the shittiest Kilrathi destroyer out there.

Its six frontal overpowered cannons will remind me of all the times seeing videos or ads to this game has given me headaches.

I will have to be astounded at the fact that no one is throwing Wing Commander or Privateer jokes at this game!
