From what you describe you didn't even finish the Tutorial (mobs don't aggro when you are doing the Tutorial).
Good job with the review though, very in-depth...

BDO has one of the best twitched combat ever, don't know which game you were playing.
Yes there are lots of flashy effects on the screen but that's pretty much the only useful information of your review.

You get screen pop ups only when you log in, if you are referring to the War announcements you can deactivate all of them from the Option menu as all the "shiny" things including particle effects and Quest trails.

You should have at least finished the Tutorial....it takes only 15 minutes.

Much of those glowing things, like the quest trail can even be disabled under options. But heaven forbid someone actually puts any effort into something. :D

Not sure why the present thing should be obvious. It's January 12th, why would a Christmas event still be running? Even the patch notes said that the event ran from 12/14 - 12/28.
You didn't even made it to the first city apparently.
If you did, you would have noticed there are still all the Xmas decorations up.

    Why they are still up?
That's a mystery, but the presents packages are not supposed to be the norm (and I find them annoying too).
I'm guessing they're tied to the Lavientia event that got extended due being bugged.

    Cliff Notes:

    Cons:

    - Combat was terrible. Could stand in front a mob and swing at it and nothing would happen. Meanwhile another attack strangely hits everything within a 5 mile radius.

    - After killing a mob, loot drops in the form of wrapped presents...Eh?

    etc
Without mentioning the fact you even did not pass tutorial... this was a blast to read. Dude, that was hilarious!

About the wrapped present... You know how some games want you to feel happy in the holidays and this kind of crap?  Well, they made drops wrapped like presents, towns to have active snow cycle and even Santa visiting main towns dropping presents from the skies. Those mother***ers want us to be happy and cheerful in the holidays.. F*ck them

What is amazing about most every game is there is always one group of proponents who call it the best ever, another group who call it absolute crap.

The truth almost always lies somewhere in the middle.

One thing about many detractors is they seem to go into playing wanting to dislike it right from the start, so unsurprisingly it becomes a self fulfilling prophecy.
    True words bro.

It was the exact opposite for me. I was looking forward to playing this game for years and when it launched, I was very disappointed with it.
Same for me, I actually had high hopes for it. I wouldn't have even bothered downloading a 40-something gb file if I expected to hate it. But it was just so off-putting. Normally I give a game some time to see if it gets any better as it progresses, especially with mmo's. With BDO though, there was something so artificial about it, in look and feel, that I had no desire to keep playing.

OP installs one of the deepest, most complex, feature rich mmos ever made and then writes a "review" of how it was so bad he/she uninstalls it before even leaving the tutorial area.

Major complaint is that computer isn't powerful enough to run it properly. FFS sometimes you guys ...

BDO must be the only mmo you have played then or you have a different version than the rest.

I'm not an IT Specialist, Game Developer, or Clairvoyant in real life, but like others on here, I play one on the internet.

I think you did not give this game a fair shake because you went in with prejudices and left having confirmed them.

I'm not really concerned whether you like the game or not. I'm more concerned about your reasons. All of which sound like first world problems. Right off the bat you complained about the combat and went on to explain why. First off, it's an action oriented combat system, which by the sound of it, isn't something you are used to. As for the rest of your issues, well... you know what, it's probably best I just agree with you because it's obvious it's not the game for you.
Any problem with a video game is a first world problem. We're not talking about poverty or starvation here. As for combat, I was well aware that it was action combat, I've played action combat and non tab-target games before. But with BDO, the combat just wasn't jiving with me. And it seemed mostly to be because of odd hitbox issues and range issues as I said. I'd do a shield slam right in front of a mob and nothing would happen at times. Then I'd do some sort of power-slam ground attack and it would hit mobs that were quite some distance away.

That sounds like you have a lag issue.

Sorry but I played this game for the economic systems and I enjoyed it immensely. The worker system, exploration, trading and other aspects that were not connected to the combat. Since I am uninterested in PvP I guess I may have been looking at the larger picture and dismissed some of the issues and enjoyed the game in spite of them. You have to get further into the game than you tried in my opinion but since you did not your point of view is incomplete. You should not have posted such a shallow view and it is unfair to the game, aside from garnering sympathetic points of view it serves no purpose.

More than half of your issues could have been resolved just by going in the options. By default you have aim assist which imo sucks. I really didn't want to reply as it's clearly meant to bait people that enjoy the game to insult you but since many posted here I go:

Don't come like you were interested in the game. Admit it and let it go. You don't download a 40 GB game then leave right away without even checking the options to solve the majority of your issues...

Yeah man, I frequently download and play things that I have no interest in  ;) /sarcasm off

Having played the shit out of Archeage for a solid year and a half, I actually had high hopes for this one, since they share some similarities. I had friends in Archeage that had left the game because they made the switch to BDO and were loving it. But I've never been so turned off by a game in such a short period of time as this one, hence the title "Fastest I've ever uninstalled an MMO".

You had high hopes for the game, and you waited a full year before playing it, just in time for the free trial.
I can see how excited you were.

    I tell you what.
I had zero expectations for this game, yet I bought it at release and actually got positively surprised, because I gave it a proper go (like I do with every game I try).
First time I logged in I was annoyed by the Black Spirit constantly popping up, and some of the excessive flashy effects that you point out, yet it is a Korean MMO so I was kinda expecting that and ignored it.
I passed the Tutorial (which is kind of tedious) and started to learn the game, which is not just about combat (one of the best BTW), and started loving it.

The game is far from perfect though, End Game PvE is shallow, and the RNG is seriously overwhelming.
These are BDO serious issues, none of the pointless reasons you listed justify making a thread about, let alone such a negative one with very little substance to support it.

Anyway you got few easy Likes, which is what you were aiming for I guess.
    So well done, mission accomplished.

    Ok, now I get it.
It's all about making the direct competition look worse than the game you are playing or loved, you don't like that many players moved from AA to BDO, and you wanted to balance all the negative reviews AA was getting.
At least now it make sense.

There's only so much time in a day. Between real life responsibilities and other games I've been playing, this is the first I got around to it.

A few likes? Is this facebook? I don't see any likes. Only thing I was "aiming for" was expressing my disappointment.

I will never get these pop-in complaints. Whenever I play, I actually have to look for the damn things. Most of the time I don't notice them, because I'm not staring at the very horizon of my screen. On my main computer anyway. On my laptop, they are absolutely terrible. So it's most definitely a computer thing as some have pointed out. Either that, or you're one of those people who's OCD about it and is constantly scanning for them.

And yes, I'm fully aware that this will get completely discarded. Implying to someone on the internet that the problem just miiiiight be on their end is like the highest level of blasphemy one can commit. :pleased:

Nice try but wrong again. I left AA over 6 months ago and don't particularly care about who else left the game. As fun as it was for that year and a half, it ultimately had enough flaws that I won't be returning. Feel free to see my posts in the AA forums where I warned a potential player about all the downsides of the game. Your conspiracy theories are amusing though. Are you always this paranoid?

The pop-in issue is one of the most frequently mentioned things when people cite negatives about the game though, so it's not like it's an isolated thing. And it seemingly happens just as much to people running high end systems as well as low-mid end systems. One of the only "fixes" I've seen mentioned for it is "you get used to it".

This is the exact reason I uninstalled BDO within one day, as well.  The level of denial involved in defending this horrid pop-in, or saying "you get used to it", is truly amazing, but also saddening at the same time.  This sort of pop-in was solved ten years ago by much lesser (graphically) games.  Oh, but "it's your computer" or "you need to use an SSD" or some such fanboi rot is about all you ever hear about it.

Well I have not noticed the pop in may be because I run everywhere ,I do not know, on the horse I have noticed it though but hardly game breaking for me.  You have to balance things and decide for yourself what is acceptable. If you find it unacceptable weighing it against the other things this game offers like the super duper graphics then it is something you have to decide for yourself.

That part seems a bit  unfair, not everyone plays a game at release date, excited or not. Waiting a year have advantages, most MMOs tend to be buggy messes at release even if translated games usually are less so.

Taste differs and everyone can not enjoy all games. Too bad, just move to the next. But then, just because a game did not cater to you does not mean it's crap, just that it is not for you. If you couldn't play it at all due to lag, bugs and a crap engine it is a different matter, not so if your computer is too old or crappy to run it.
