Specs so far:
The Nintendo Switch device offers a 6.2-inch, 720p multitouch display that runs at a 1280 x 720 resolution when used in a handheld mode. When docked, the Switch is capable of outputting full 1080p visuals through an HDMI connection to an attached TV. Nintendo says that the Switch runs off a custom Nvidia Tegra processor, but hasn’t released more specific details.
Switch will offer a range of online services, and Nintendo has joined Sony and Microsoft in asking you to subscribe to them.
Currently rejoicing in the name Nintendo Switch Online Service, the premium membership program “lets Nintendo Switch owners enjoy online multiplayer gaming as well as a dedicated smartphone app that connects to your Nintendo Switch system and helps you connect with friends for online play sessions”.
Interestingly, only online play has been confirmed for launch. Other features are “planned for fall 2017”, meaning they won’t turn up till at least September.
One of these planned features is online lobbies and voice chat, which will be accessed through a dedicated Switch app on your smartphone or tablet. A free, limited version of the app will be available to try out in northern summer.
Another is a monthly game download. Nintendo said Switch Online Service subscribers will get to download and play a NES or SNES game “free for a month”. it’s not clear whether that means you can’t play them any more after the month ends. These games will have new, online play features added in.
Finally, Nintendo Switch Online Service subscribers will have access to exclusive discounts and offers, similarly to PS Plus and Xbox Live Gold.
You’ll need a Nintendo Network ID if you want to subscribe to Nintendo Switch Online Service, as well as to general Nintendo Network such as sharing captures, accessing the eShop, using parental controls and adding friends, obviously.
Switch will launch on March 3 in Japan, the US, Europe and other major territories, Nintendo announced today.
The Switch will retail for $299.99 in the US and ¥29,980 in Japan. European prices have not been set, but we can probably expect something in the region of €299.99 judging by historical regional pricing.
The Switch has a 6.2″ multitouch screen and 32GB internal storage, expandable with a microSDXC card.
The console will ship with left and right JoyCon controllers, JoyCon wrist straps, a JoyCon grip, the Switch dock, an HDMI cable and an AC adapter.
Two Switch SKUs will be available, at the same price – one with grey controllers, and one with coloured controllers.
The Pro Controller will be sold separately from the Switch console.
Breaking tradition, Switch will be a region-free console.
Nintendo intends to offer a more robust online experience this time. Nintendo Switch online services will be free at launch, but will become a paid service, like Xbox Live Gold or PS Plus, in northern autumn 2017. More details are coming at a later date, but we do know you’ll be able to access many of the features from your smartphone, including setting up play dates and finding friends.
The Switch’s battery life seems pretty decent, lasting between 3.5 hours and 6.5 hours, Nintendo said.

Really the only thing I see thats a major downside atm is the lack of launch games, but I will shamelessly buy it for Zelda: Breath of the Wild since its a true Open World Zelda game which Ive wanted for a while.
Velika: City of Wheels: Among the mortal races, the humans were the only one that never built cities or great empires; a curse laid upon them by their creator, Gidd, forced them to wander as nomads for twenty centuries...
Won't be pre-ordering but I will certainly pick one up at release.
The video includes clips from Minecraft: Story Mode, Rayman Legends: Definitive Edition, Has Been Heroes, Project Sonic 2017, I Am Setsuna, Skylanders Imaginators, Nobunaga’s Ambition: Sphere of Influence with Power Up Kit, Puyopuyo Tetris S, Disgaea 5, Minna de Waiwai! Spelunker, Sangokushi 13 with Power Up Kit, Dragonball Xenoverse 2 (temp title), Bomberman, and Farming Simulator.

And at that price point you can get an XBox One ($399), and even a PS4 ($439) for less; a lot less (< $300) if you're willing to go second hand. Add a decent SD card for $50-70 (Switch only comes with 32gb onboard storage, part of which is used by the OS), and / or a Pro controller ($100!) and you're in / past PS4 Pro territory...
Then there's the games, or game in the case of Switch. XBox / PS4 already have a bunch of great games, most of them now half price or less, with a bunch more launching in the Feb to April period; Switch has Zelda, with only 2-3 more of note likely to launch later this year.
If the Switch was $100 cheaper, had more than Zelda in it's near future, and was launched in a dead-zone I could see it doing OK. At it's current price point, with 1 game, and launching smack in the middle of a bunch of highly anticipated AAA games for other platforms... this is system for die hard Nintendo / Zelda fans only.
That said, with supposedly 80 games in development, IF, say, 1/4 of them are really good and Nintendo can ride out a slow launch, then maybe Switch can get somewhere, as the technology (as relatively underpowered as it is) is kind of cool... but that's a big IF, and Sony and Microsoft aren't just going to take it lying down (price cut / game bundles for March anyone?).
Overall I don't see the Switch doing as badly as the Wii U, but it will forever be a second console, and maybe a decent portable, but a second coming of the Wii, or even a good replacement for a 3DS, this is not. Mario on Playstation by 2025, calling it.

Each Joy-Con also has a camera and motion detection. Each controler includes an accelerometer and gyro-sensor, making independent left and right motion control possible. The right Joy-Con has an infrared motion camera that can detect the distance, shape and motion of nearby objects in specially designed games. For example, it can tell how far away a player’s hand is, and even if the hand is forming a rock, paper or scissors shape.
You can detect objects in front of the controller (as in the picture at the top), and you can wave each one around like a gun or a wand. Both Joy-Con include advanced HD Rumble, which can provide compatible games with subtle vibrations that are much more realistic than before. The effect is so detailed that a player could, for example, feel the sensation of individual ice cubes colliding inside a glass when shaking a Joy-Con, Nintendo said.
