@cichy1012 LOL, I miss the old games like the original GW and EQ2. I am actually trying to find out the name of an old mmorpg my wife and I played about ten years ago. I can't remember what it was called for the life of me but it was a great game, and was free.
Alas I'm a filthy Hib this time and playing a mana Ment. Dotting things to death and keeping out of range.
Nice! I rolled a filthy Hib myself.. it looks as though it's the underdog realm as far as population goes, hence why I picked that one!
Wanted to main a tank, but for now, cash is low, so it may be hard to keep the gear up to date... Thought to go with enchanter, but seems like they are very popular currently.. so I'm now still at the drawing board..lol

QFT!
Just joined this week too.
More excited about it than I ever thought I would be! It's 2001 all over again!
Now if I could just get my mind on what class to pick as my main..
When in doubt always go Air Theurgist
Nonsense, for leveling ice is where it's at.

Does their build still have the 1 minute AOE ice root? I have fond memories of rooting whole raids with that

A note on DAOC, if you force yourself to play like the old days it's actually quite enjoyable. What I mean by that is avoid the speed levels methods or trying to power level.. just go out level 1, 2, 5 etc and fight mobs 1v1 like you would if you were first playing the game.
If you do that what is striking is just how enjoyable it is to fight a single mob and actually apply 'skill' to playing.. meaning, having to manage the fight without pulling adds. If you pull an add, you are going to die! No bullsheit with this game, no killing 8 mobs at once as a level 3. You can't just close your eyes, go half a sleep and fight and plan to win every fight. You have to use your head, you have to think.
When you get to level 5 or greater, start trying to pull from a camp. How do you engage the camp, pull a mob safely, get it killed without getting killed etc. You actually have to use the abilities you have, you have to use your head. Sure you can pull a 'green' con mobbed for an easy kill with little reward, but how do you fair against a 'yellow' con mob.. there is actually a challenge there. Think you are just going to kite away.. good luck!
This is what is far different from modern games, in today's game you can roll through the first 20 levels without even having to look at the screen. In today's games it's just mindless button mashing, you are playing Diablo but a mmorpg.

Ah, all the stuff that kept me from playing MMOs for years....
Go back to your consoles or flashy single player MMOs, leave the real MMORPGs to we who appreciate their quiet beauty.
Never played consoles. And the single playeredness has more to do with the general run of MMO participants, sadly. Whenever anyone talks about real or true MMOs, you know the BS is starting to drool out. I suspect you are fully ironic there though.

If you are holding out for the perfect game, the only game you play will be the waiting one.
Just curious as for the over 40 crowd who talks about nostalgia, longing for pure bliss; remembering those all nighters, fights with the wife and calling in sick for work etc. (UO and EQ).What are you playing now while waiting for whatever game it is; you are waiting for? Im in reinstall; play then uninstall phase of mmos right now.
Over 40 and old?
You better be 60+ otherwise you are nowhere near old!
Damn right! I mainly play Ark Survival Evolved with friends, interspersed with games I play for a short while and either move on to another one or return to Ark. I wish there was an mmorpg that would hold my interest but none do, sadly.
Honestly, as much as im nowhere near being a veteran mmo player, at this point im not having much faith in mmo-s as a genre, because whenever i find something that is even remotely interesting, it tends to turn out being yet another generic "kill x and y amount of mob, rinse and repeat".
Then again I suppose that growing older my tolerance for monotonous games has dropped significantly and that i just dont buy into games where grind is being sold as ingame content.

Old is a relative term, and 40 years old is close to dinosaur in MMOs time frame. I think of us as young dinosaurs when it comes to MMOs and some when it comes to video games.
“It's unwise to pay too much, but it's worse to pay too little. When you pay too much, you lose a little money - that's all. When you pay too little, you sometimes lose everything, because the thing you bought was incapable of doing the thing it was bought to do. The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot - it can't be done. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.”
