people keep saying scince pvp is pointless you don't really get ganked because there's no point to it, then I watch his video and he's trying to show off his character walking down a road and a player walks up to him and ganks him and rides away.
That is the only thing keeping me from playing this game currently.
You do realize you can just skip the level 50 quest and that toon will never hit level 50 and will never have to participate in PvP right? At level 49 you can still level all the other abilities like fishing, gathering, cooking and alchemy and still be strong enough to fight any of the PvE mobs.
You can also have a separate toon at completes their level 50 quest and then does engage in PvP. BDO is all about choice and playing the way you want to, when you want to. Want to fish in peace, log into the PvE toon. Watch to gather some of the best ingredients for cooking in a PvP area? Log in with the PvE toon. Want to participate in node wars or just run around and gank people? Log in with your PvP toon.
It is a brilliant system designed to allow you the choice to play the way you want to, when you want to.

Are you sure about that Talonsin I think you might be wrong because once you have one toon who has finished the quests all the other characters in the family become PvP enabled.

I don't think that's true. I remember having a discussion about it in a guild I was in and it was determined that it rotated around each character. I just don't remember testing that so I have no first hand experience with it.

One Character on Level 50 is enough to activate the PvP Mode on all your Characters, regardless of their level.
I am very sure about this DMKano clarified it for me. That time it was level 45 and he even told me how to avoid becoming 45 to avoid it. I was very determiend not to PvP so I asked extensive questions about this.

I appreciate that but is that info based off Korea or is that info based off our version?
I mean, it says "level 50 Korea version" which leads me to believe that they took that info from there.
Of course "now" the level is raised from 45 to 50 but I suspect that it might not be correct.
If someone has direct experience I think that would help clarify.
In this thread ElirionLoth indicates that isn't the case:

ppl where avoiding this game for awhile because of the pvp hacking / god mode hacks...also they had a huge pvp following at release because thats what the game was made for / based around..now its the carebears taking over and morphing the game into something that isnt..

That is the beauty of BDO we can play it however we like even if the PvPers don't like what it morphed into tough luck I guess.

It was based on the KR version. I've got a gazillion alts, and they definitely couldn't be attacked until they did the quest themselves.
Basically, the moment you finish that quest, your name turns blue (or white if you've barely killed any mobs and have crappy karma as a result). And blue names can PvP, green (level 49's and lower that haven't done the quest) can't attack anyone, nor be attacked.

All this video sounds like "I came back out of boredom, played a little and rushed to forums to tell everybody how this is the best game ever." What about his video, where he suggests to boycott this game and rants about how badly and greedy it is run?! Now he just changes shirts and tell us to no boycott it anymore - can he be taken serious after this?
BDO have no any other goal than make money, all those fishing/provisioning/trading etc have no other goals than make money. Money for again only one goal to upgrade your gear - that's all, there is nothing more in this game. You pretend like you are improving your character and trying to get better, till you realize that only goal is money and then more money for next + tier. Beautiful, but empty and meaningless world overrun by carnival freaks, absolutely destroying its own lore, naked babes with enormous boobs and huge swords, jumping and screaming in tiny voices, that's your BDO's beautiful world. After lvl 50 all you do is grind for next level, more money and hope to upgrade same looking sword or armor to another +, even quests you are give have nothing, but kill 100 X, then kill 100 Y, then kill 100 Z, every day!
I bet soon honeymoon of coming back will be over and he will tell us to not play this boring grind game again, like before.
A better gauge will be how he still feels about returning to BDO a couple months from now.
People will find another reason to dismiss his opinions then, like they do with everyone who's not spouting the crap they want to hear.

Anytime somebody goes back to Archeage or BDO talking about;
"Everything is great now, I now don't worry about being competitive. I stay at level 49 and just enjoy extra curricular stuff"
I give them an automatic dismiss.
These games (or Archeage at least) were built with PVP as the foundation of the ecosystem. I'm basically seeing the statement as a concession of never being able to fairly PVP therefore settling with tagging 10 mobs at a time and AOE'ing them until they die for hours, and gathering, and crafting.
All people want is Archeage/BDO with out the silly RNG, in game shop up-selling, and some sort of reasonable ceiling that everyone can eventually get to and be even to enjoy a competitive period.
They can drop expansions, let the no-lifers and swipers race their way to the next ceiling and reasonably do it again.
While I respect the fact this guy has found his woosah in Black Desert I still sit on the bubble to even download and play for a first time because Archeage is pretty dumb, and I don't want to go through that again for a better graphic, action combat, non-instanced housing, worse OWPVP version of it... witch channel switching.
"As far as the forum code of conduct, I would think it's a bit outdated and in need of a refre *CLOSED*"
Enjoying BDO here, while there are quite a few things that could be improved I find there is more good to keep me entertained for a good chunk of my spare time. The environment is what keeps my attention and the overall "things to do" in the game are enough to hold my attention well. The quality of life changes have been fair, the one complaint that I do have is the grouping mechanic or lack thereof. I have had fun when entering a random group, started out as potential PK goodness but ended up with 5 of us having fun grinding mobs and just bs'n in general. If you go in with the PvP only mindset, I can see where this game disappoints. That is why I play Overwatch, Paladins, or any other game of its kind that can entertain me to satisfy my PvP itch. BDO comes close to giving me the sense of accomplishment I used to get when playing vanilla WoW, albeit not the same but on a path that is close and suits me.

So it's not for you. Choices are what life's about. Doesn't make your opinion any more valid than the OPs.
Also, if the guy had bothered to watch the video... he'd know the creator didn't sit at lvl 49 and life skill...
He's lvl 58 and pretty geared. He's just not bothering to push for the top 1%.

Pff I wanna see the new expansion but dont got boat lol isnt there another way to get there? Like npc boat or something. And do you really need the shark outfit to explore!
Usually like this guys vids, but this one did not resonate. First, the combat looks even more boring and trivial than ever, despite bigger and more graphic explosions. Still just running around solo, with zero risk, spamming OP abilities in the hopes of getting random luck.
I also hate to see the misappropriation of "depth" thrown about so carelessly. BDO is about a deep as a puddle. It's broad, not deep. The locked economy couldn't be less conducive to a sandbox game. The crafting was in no way deep when I played it. There was just a lot of different options, that ultimately meant little in the grand scheme of things.
Judging by the volume of scenic shots and time spent gazing at the environment, I think the real reason he went back is because he just enjoys a good screenshot generator.
Lol so a buddy of mine also "came back" - his first comment was - "why does everything take SO long in this game"...
I just laughed.
Yeah he didn't last a day - but he is a LoL player at heart, so he sort of just wants to get in and out of the action ASAP.
Not really sure why he ever bought BDO.
With a decent horse its ok I guess and as a returned player wait a few days for your free t5 horse.
Only thing that takes long is the new expansion, right?
Im just lvling fast to 56 at 55 atm in 2/3 days. Doing some fishing, when im lvl 56 gonna do the awakening quests with the guild, do some quests for contribution, bag space and skill points ( im really lacking skill points) trying to figure out how to reach Margoria. And will do somr fishing and try out trading.
And if I dont sleep tonight I will go and watch:
Join us for the celebration of the Lunar New Year on Friday January 27th. We'll be up late setting lanterns off into the night sky, along with some other festive effects! Keep an eye out for in-game announcements before the celebration starts in the major cities (Velia, Heidel, and Calpheon).

Each character gets the level 50 unlock scroll from the Black Spirit and has to do the quest to be elligible for PVP.
Although, during node and conquest wars you can be killed <50 if you're in the wrong channel whether you have any characters above level 50 or not:
