I am seeing a lot of PvP based games incomming this year. Crowfall, Camelot Unchained, DnL, CoE, list seems to just go on and on for PvP games.
And then I see 1 pure PvE game, Pantheon, but is that the only one on the horizon?
I mean I am not a fan of PvP games, but not a whole lot attracted to pure PvE games either.
Anybody noticed any PvE MMORPGs with some optional PvP implemented, that is in development?
Been trying to browse the "Games in development" section for awhile, but not having much luck finding what I am looking for.
Prefer the above in fantasy setting, with a great deal of customization options, housing and flying mounts as well.

Follow me on Twitter if you dare.
It's an open world PvE with a lot side activities and although is a PvP game griefing is pretty rare in BDO, generally you can do your stuff without being disturbed.
Thank you Bill.
Didnt know DnL will have PvE servers, that is good news (If DnL actually is a game, sorry for being skeptical on that one.)
Crowfall I thought was a pureblood PvP game, will check that one again.
Ashes of Creation.. when I saw that one, I desired it from the first glance. Then when I saw that all our creations can be destroyed, I did not really feel very phoenixy about rebuilding, just because someone might envy/need my space and place in the world?. From what I understand there will not be any possibility to build anything that can not be destroyed? I think they kind of said that they thought building just to build things had no point?
Otherwise I did see a small mention of a sort of PvP flagging system, but how it works, I did not see elaborated.
Bless is a mix? In what way a mix? There will be PvE servers? Or limited optional contested areas in the open world? If so that would be great! new, cause Bless was originally one of the games I hoped to play, till I was confronted with it just being another standard Asian PvP game.
Revelation also looks nice, might not have done my research well enough on that one, kind of had a BnS vibe from that game, so despite the amazing artwork, I ran quickly past it, will have another look.
Really like their gear designs in that one.
But thank you Bill. Appreciate you took the time to add a list.
Tried BDO, but what was it, at lvl 36 ? The PvP becomes forced. Or at least in my terminology forced.
I dont like playing a game, where I cant decide for myself when and where Id like to be flagged for pvp.
Random interruptive PvP, the mere idea that it is a possibility makes me consider games like that PvP games.
PvE settings with things like battlegrounds (Like RIFT or WoW) or contested areas like Warhammer, I prefer those kinds.
Should probably have added a clear definition in my first post.
BDO is level 50.
99% of the time people ignores you, unless you are grinding in a spot taken by someone else.
If you are gathering or doing quests, people will never bother you.
You should give it a try, there is a free 7 day trial, and I made a guide for new players to get them started as BDO can be overwhelming for new players.
BDO New Player Guide
I second this. I am no fan of games where I am attacked all the time and prevented from doing my things. I have no problem with PVP, even open world PVP, as long as it's got some sort of system to it, or consequences (Age of Wushu's crime/jail/execution was the best imho), and doesn't interrupt how you want to play too much.
When I played BDO solidly from launch until about 6 months ago, I was attacked only twice. Once outside Glish when I inadvertently walked into a guild battle and was collateral damage. And the other time in Mediah where a ranger opened fire on me and my girlfriend and then ran away when we fought back.
So, you won't be constantly ganked and murdered unless you're very unlucky. Yes, there are some guilds that like to PK, and you can watch out for them, but that adds something to the experience for me, and encounters with them are rare anyway.
Everything else that comes to mind is pretty much PvP-focused.
So.... the non-MMOs like DNL and Conan are the only things remotely close to a launch?
Well, I don't know when the release date for Forsaken Legends is estimated, but I believe you can actually play it right now if you buy a cheap "prelaunch" package.
According to their feature page: http://www.forsakenlegends.com/prelaunch/ you can avoid PvP because the world is divided into separate "quadrants", but I guess that would also mean you couldn't go certain places if you wanted to avoid it entirely.
I haven't looked in on that game in quite a long while, so I'm not sure where they stand currently.
DnL just released a few gameplay videos that shows it is indeed a thing, but also showed a need for optimization and glitch fixing. I wouldn't expect it to hit Steam for at least another 1-3 months, unless they want to waste all of their hard work

As far as Forsaken Legends they have gone back to the drawing board in a way. Here is a more updated view on the progress (site has old gameplay):

I see you are a strong fan of BDO, which is great, you enjoy it, that is brilliant.
Personally I am simply just not a fan of the graphics, the lingeri department, the starved horses and the general gameplay.
The characters, at least the females, look like vox dolls that has somehow managed to end up in an MMORPG, looking entirely out of place with the landscapes.
I have to admit, after having tried several asian MMORPGs by now, I have ended up with somewhat of a very annoyed stance towards the Asian industry in that regard.
Which is a shame, since Asia, maybe especially China, is extremely ahead when it comes to development of things like AI software and robotics.
Why they have to smother their games in half naked girls, I simply do not understand. And it is not even so much that there is bare skin, I am actually not against a little eye candy every now and then.
But please do it with grace and taste.
ESO is a great example of how its done when done well, not breaking the theme, atmosphere and lore in their game, when they add a barbarian costume ever so often.
I find a lot of Asian MMORPGs quite vulgar, which I regret is the case, cause they do come up with innovative ideas.
But then they go ahead and do things like AFK fishing, or auto arranging your travel, and sure these things are free of choice, but watching other players fish or travelling about, you wonder if they are actually approachable in game or just simply AFK. Making other players no more than NPCs.
At the end of the day, these things are down to preference and I as the flawed human being I am, occasionally find it extremely provocative that so many other gamers, do not have my opinions or picky standards, when it comes to the lvl of design and quality I would like to see in new games.
That is just the unfortunate reality of life.
It also means that getting a game, a broad audience will like, is near impossible to figure out what is, for developers.
So each developer ends up following their own preferences, designing games accordingly.
And apparently, the large majority of those are really happy with PvP MMORPGs. Even when they try to find a middleground, they still try to slide in "forced" pvp, cause they expect people might be willing to make a compromise, if the game is just good enough.
And maybe one day, a developer will find the solution, meanwhile WoW and ESO, implement PvP just fine in their games, where people can PvP when they choose to.
WoW and ESO got those things right, imo.
Right this minute, my interest and hope balance on the edge of Ashes of Creation.
If they will make it possible to have a house in their game, that can not be destroyed, unless the owner would choose so, then I am all for building villages in other areas of the game, that I will defend, to likely no prevail, cause I am not running after and joining elite guilds to ensure my survival of my work and creations in a game.
But I am willing to try and play something else, that strays a little outside my comfort zone, as long as I wont have to look at ugly stale, empty and or simply just uninspiring worlds and half naked teenagers.
Or play World of CasinoCraft for the rest of my life.
Thank you for your suggestion though, but as mentioned earlier. I have tried BDO and I did not like it.
Hey, you are talking with the guy who made this thread
http://forums.mmorpg.com/discussion/460102/do-you-like-korean-mmo-art-style/p1
That's the reason why I almost didn't give BDO a try, I am now glad that I did.
It's totally fine if you just don't like the "feel" though, but what I personally do whenever there is a free trial of a game, I will try it.
You should do the same IMO, you have nothing to lose, and who knows, you might be actually be positively surprised.
As for the clothing and the way people dress their toons the large portion of the money they earn is from the costumes. They offer the type of costumes their players want. It is understandable that you blame the developers for their choice of garments but the clothing you see the people dress their toons in is ultimately the choice of the players. So really it is the players who your quarrel is with really because obviously players enjoy dressing their characters in that way since there are many outfits that do not have the same effect.
Comparing the costumes to other games that have built their game on lore that do not have that type of dressing is not really a good comparison because we are playing a fantasy game. People enjoy dressing their toons that way. I don't dress my toons that way ,I think mainly guys enjoy dressing their toons that way. Women generally pick other types of costumes but they do not bother me in any way. I am used to all this since I am Asian and I also enjoy manga and anime and such.
I am merely pointing out the fallacy that the developers are some sort of perverts for allowing such costumes but in reality it is target audience that like those costumes.
That is why I wrote:
That is just the unfortunate reality of life."
I am aware there is a huge or at least seemingly huge playerbase that like the outfits that these producers make.
And I know I am meant to say that is fine, that I respect that, but while on the path to acceptance of that reality, I have to admit, I simply sit and grind my teeth, wondering why so many people dont ask for quality, rather than just cheap meat.
Yeah, no
You are persistent though, have to give you that. Kudos for endurance.
But no.
BDO might be your game and here is why... There is no forced PvP. In order to PvP, you have to be level 50. At level 49 you have an option to do a quest to hit level 50. If you dont do that quest, you still have access to ALL the other game systems but you will not hit level 50 and will not have to PvP.
I have a level 49 I use when I want to PvE and breed horses, farm, fish, cook/gather ingredients or hunt. I also have a level 52 I use when I WANT to PvP. It is a brilliant system that gives people the choice of playing how they want to play, when they want to.
It is not a perfect game, I hate the fact you can not trade with other players but it does keep prices in check. I am also disappointed with the scantly clad female characters and often wonder what goes on in eastern countries that makes them feel they need to fill their games with large breasted, almost naked women.
It does however allow me to do what I want, when I want to and that is what keeps me in the game. There is also no P2W crap in the cash shop like in other eastern games. If selling bikinis in the cash shop allows them to NOT sell gear changing items like charms and regrade scrolls, I guess I can live with that.
I really appreciate you guys taking your time to write these posts that sings praise to BDO.
And I am really happy for you guys that you have found your game.
On another note, when its obvious that I have said no three times, maybe it is time to consider, that your individual PR begins to have the opposite effect.
No just means no.
You also know you are very selective in your tastes and won't reach beyond your personal boundaries so are unlikely to find your "purple squirrel."

If what stops you to even try it is just the Art Style then it is obvious that you are not gonna find anything to play, as the perfect game doesn't exist.
If you are not willing to bend a bit, then what's the point in asking for advice, as you probably are going to find something you don't like in every game we suggest.
There is actually a better game that fits your requirements, but you asked for something new-ish.
WoW.
Optional PvP, lots of customization, Garrisons, Flying Mounts.
There is nothing new on the horizon, just Pantheon and it is 2 years away.
I did do research before making the thread and a lot of the games Bill listed, I had already come across.
I did not specify that the games I am looking for, have to be released in 2017, I am open to games that may have just only recently been announced in production as well.
Seeing the list is quite long on the "games in development" page and considering my at times very lacking ability to fully understand dev speak, I wanted to check with the community if I had in fact overlooked a game, that I am not aware of exists.
I am very confused when it comes to understanding a description of a new games designs.
Like for awhile I thought DnL would be an MMORPG comparable to, what I have come to consider a traditional layout for a MMORPG. PvE servers, PvP servers, RP servers, MMO open world game. Which I have had to learn is not traditional at all. Which is a recent discovery.
Recently I have catched a couple of the threads that mentions its a coop, with limited players on each server, which to me is not really what I am looking for.
This above is just an example.
Like currently I try to read Ashes of Creations description of their game, where they mention that flagging will be a part of their gameplay. And it looks like the PvE aspect is being described as the gameplay that allows people to do dungeons and bosses.
When the above confuse me, it is because I dont really know where the flagging will be possible, will some houses be secure and out of combat reach? Can we quest and lvl up in peace from PvP if we chose not to be flagged?
I apologize if this comes off as a bit uneducated, but that simply is because I am in fact very inexperienced in how to read game descriptions and understand what is actually being written. Translating it into an image of how the game will in fact be is very hard for me to do.
So while I politely have turned BDO down several times and have explained my reasons why, this does not mean that I have a very clear picture of what games are incoming in the next 5 or 10 years.
I explained in my OP, what I prefer in games and while I am fully aware that WoW has these elements, I still hope and to some degree believe, that there will be other games incoming or maybe already in the making, that I am not aware of yet. Which may have many of the same elements that WoW does, the way it was in WOTLK and MOP, not the massive RNG circus it has turned into since.
And yeah, no just means no. Its a neutral word, it just means no. And yes BDO is not on the list of games I want to try again.
Which means if people eagerly keep trying to persuade or convince me of trying again, I will and have elaborated on my personal reasons why I do not like that game and why I turn it down.
Trying to push me into a game, I have clearly stated I am not interested in, means I will eventually have to simply just say no.
Hope you understand.
I dont really worry too much if a game comes along down the road, that will interest me. It will happen sooner or later. I prefer sooner, but will have to accept later.
But also, there are a couple of games I have my eyes on atm, that does not at all fulfill my preferences, like Ashes of Creation and CU. Games that, if I had other alternatives more in line with my gamestyle, I would not have been considering at all.
I am not afraid to wander of out of my comfort zone and consider other games in that regard.
I guess you are just a bit unlucky that your efforts in getting new or old members to come back to BDO, will not succeed with me, due to the above reasons I have already elaborated in other posts further up the thread.
I am sure you will find your members for BDO though, seeing how fondly you speak of the game, I see no reason why other people would not join you in all the good fun.
EDIT: P.s About disregarding a game based on its artstyle. Yep I am one of those who will do that with absolutely no regrets.
RL is nothing but having to compromise, I dont feel any moral demand to do that with a game.
If games are ugly, in my eyes ugly, they are binned.
You may not be the same kind of person that does that, if you value other things in games higher, but different people different strokes I guess
