why would someone buy the Official Mouse and Keyboard made by Playstation if they cannot use them in their games ? I realy doubt Playstation would sell said production then restrict its use on the games they are selling.
This was a debate we had over and over when i was playing Overwatch. Playstation dont restrict anything, but Blizzard did not make Overwatch natively support this type of configuration and wording they used on tweets and updates implied they considered their use as an exploit.
Not accommodating for official hardware is an oversight of development. Even if it didn't exist, new peripherals could be introduced at a later date. This is an issue they should have recognized and planned around during the early stages of design.
I wouldn't be so matter of fact if this were a smaller team. Unfortunately, this is Blizzard, a company who can spend millions studying what makes a gamer tick. They aren't the victim, they're the aggressor.
Perhaps you mistake my words. Im not defending Blizzard at all. You make a valid point and fully agree with you.
We would argue about this subject a lot when i was playing on PS4 with friends. A lot of people claimed it was fair and Blizzard approved of their use, but i guess now we have a defenitive answer.
The title of this post is a little misleading though, they didnt have their accounts banned for the use of mouse and keyboard attatchments, it was something seperate entirely.
I'd also add that many sites selling keyboard and mouse attatchments also offer guarantee's that they can not be detected by developers. So unless Playstation work with Blizzard on this, i dont see how they will ever combat it.
The title of the article is clear if you read the entire post. These are two separate things. The bans happened due to Korean internet cafes and the rampant installation of third party software.
The mouse / keyboard thing is something else entirely.
You just defined click-bait.
The title does lead one to believe that 23,000 accounts were banned as a result of using keyboard and mouse. As you yourself stated. One must read the entire article in order to discern a difference between the two pieces of information in the title.
That's baiting people to read an article. The article itself is perfectly fine and informative. But don't try to argue that your title isn't misleading by giving us the definition of what click-bait is.

Hmm? I just read the title and discerned the meaning. It says "&" not "causes" or "results in".
Yeah I, nor anyone with any sense, is paying $150 for that monstrosity when you can get a Keymander for around $60 like I did or get a better version like Xim for a little more and use your own K/M.
On-topic: So it's official now. About time. I do agree that native K/M support should be built in to all consoles. Get on it Blizzard! You have the power to make it happen!
The problem is they don't want people to feel they HAVE to use a keyboard and mouse. If they officially allow it, it would take about a day before every controller user is shamed out of the game for using a controller. That's not good for sales on consoles.
Another problem is I believe console servers have soft-aimlock to assist controllers with aiming. If you use a mouse and keyboard in that environment, the game may not play as intended.
They need to be separated. Keyboard-mouse vs controller is like Godzilla vs kindergartners. It's cruel. If the console kids really wanted better controls, they would have upgraded to kbm already. They like consoles obviously, leave them alone.
* Drop the wall between console and PC players. Allow everyone to be together. (I understand part of this isn't due to KB/M v Controller, but MS/Sony, but hey, let's ignore that for a minute)
* Separate controller vs KB/M players in matches (not like the game doesn't know which you are using), and not allow swapping control schemes in the middle of a match.
* Allow for a user-configurable override setting if a player wants to complete with a controller against KB/M players
Now, I don't think that will ever happen, but I think it's the ideal. It could also effectively double your e-sporting events (KB/M tourney, Controller tourney)
Mouse and KB are the steroids of esports... who knew?

I didn't realize how dumb playing FPS on controllers were until I started PC gaming. I can't go back to that.
I think separating players based on hardware isn't feasible. If you're a true FPS "pro" you'll want a keyboard mouse setup. I think it provides a great opportunity to sell hardware since everyone likes to feel like they are pro.
Let "XxShootyXMcshooteryxX" add a keyboard and mouse to their console setup. Pads, and joysticks all have their place
"As far as the forum code of conduct, I would think it's a bit outdated and in need of a refre *CLOSED*"
"Significant advantage" or may be signigicant advantage I presume means that so the mouse and keyboard is superior to the controller then come on admit it. Why not just allow the mouse and keyboard on the console natively and stop the pain.
Because all console games have the native aim-assist on and some even add to it. Blizzard right now is having to make the decision if they want to increase the hitbox on their aim-assist.
I think it provides a great opportunity to sell hardware since everyone likes to feel like they are pro.
Very good point. Blizzard doesn't sell HW (yet.) If they did, they'd be promoting this instead of QQing about it.

PS4 already supports standard usb keyboard and mouse natively, its only the xbox that does not support them, there is even a couple of usb ports on the front of the ps4 where you can plug them in, i know because i use them when i play FFXIV:ARR on the PS4, i do so using a standard usb keyboard and usb mouse, no emulation necessary, and they are the same ones i use on my PC, the game (ffxiv:arr) even allows you to switch between controller types on the fly.
My ping to the servers is pretty high compared to most people (80-120) and i'm at a distinct disadvantage when playing against people with 20 ping. Can we ban all those people or increase their ping to match mine Jeff. Thanks.
Another reason that I give blizzard the big middle finger. I am missing most of my pinky and have pretty severe nerve dmg in my left hand due to it being crushed in an accident. So using one of them controllers is not an option. So what if I played overwatch and used a kb(in my case it would have to be a palm pad like I use for my pc) and mouse would they ban me or make me send them in a doctors note?
That's kind of BS. If I Played Overwatch I would have been one of those banned as I prefer mouse/keyboard to controller and would be using one of those interfaces.

There is no banning for that reason. The bans referred to in the article heading are a totally different issue related to Korean internet cafes.

Ok the title seemed to insinuate that that was the reason for the bans. Duly noted!

I think this is Blizzards way of admitting they suck at matchmaking. When I jump into "quickplay" it says I will be matched with players of my skill level. I am only level-8 and not very good and yet I always see level 78 and above players with way more skill than I could possibly muster at my age.
I think it is sad when a game developer uses peripherals as an excuse for lack of coding ability. It can not really be that hard to match people based on their KD ratio.

This is why I don't even own a console anymore, they kept promising kb and m , but they never delivered.
The consoles themselves support it (well, at least PS3 and PS4), but it is up to the developers to allow / support it in game... similar to how some PC games support controllers and others don't.
That said, the lack of KB+M support in certain games (most notably first person shoorters and real time strategy) is the reason I buy those types of games on PC (if possible).
They should ban people who have much better reflexes and exceptional hand/eye coordination (turns out some people are just much better at it do to genetics) - because its an unfair advantage.
Fast forward into the future when medical nano/cyebertech will allow body upgrades - or even better people can bypass keyboard/mouse for direct brain control.... heh is that cheating?
Fast forward to the future and I'll have my AI play the game for me and talk all kinds of trash myself after the win. :-)

if mouse becomes a norm on consoles for PvP shooters i will quickly stop playing those types of games. I play PvP shooters on console so i dont have to deal with a mouse on PC while and since everyone else is also using the controller we are all on equal footing.
If they ever embrace mouse usage on console then i expect ALL shooters to offer PvE game modes so i dont have to do PvP anymore.
They need to be separated. Keyboard-mouse vs controller is like Godzilla vs kindergartners. It's cruel. If the console kids really wanted better controls, they would have upgraded to kbm already. They like consoles obviously, leave them alone.
i almost agreed with you until you said console kids. Grow up.
i play Overwatch on both PC and PS4. I play more on PS4 and only play it on PC with my friends. I play on PC with a controller and kill more than i do with the mouse. You want to know how? very simple: i dont have good precision using hit-scan weapons so i play with projectile based characters like Junk rat and Pharah. I dont need precision with those characters so the controller works perfectly fine for me. When i want to use hit-scan characters i go to ps4 and be on equal footing with everyone else.
IIRC mouse usage on PS4 is for internet browsing. Allowing a PvP game to use it is just a terrible idea.
Notice how many people failed to read the article and react to the news that 'blizzard banned accounts for using keyboards' ? Amusing to see how many regulars of this forum obviously just read the title and way in with their opinions; details be dammed I know everything there is to know!
I don't think the mouse+keyboard is that big of an advantage. In fact, there are plenty of scenarios where I find the controller superior. Personally, I don't give a rodents donkey which the players use.
Besides, are they then going to start banning all non-approved controllers too? I know plenty of hardcore gamers, or wannabees with bucks that spend a ton of money on third party 'pro' controllers of various types, just so they can get that extra bonus of either higher performance, or better feel. (The macro stuff is cheating, so don't even go there.)
Not surprised about the Korean thing. They've been doing that kind of stuff for decades. I don't know why so many of them are total douches online, especially when I've never met one that wasn't nice in the real world, though I've never been to that country either.
I hate to say it, but their online bad sportsmanship and cheating is so pervasive I finally developed a habit of saving myself the hassle, and just avoiding or banning them whenever I can. Much less stress and less griefing that way.
I think its shortsighted of Blizzard to even slightly support the idea of making m&kb accessible on consoles for their competitive games because it just further divides the player base and make the current problem even worse.
And if there are only matches for each control scheme that will also divide the player bases on the platforms and promote more lazy optimizing for each of the platforms natural setup.
Respect each of the native control schemes for the platforms and why the majority of the players are attracted to those platforms in the first place. They should be going after the people using the modded hardware not the majority of the people - 99.9% - who prefer controllers.

keyboard + mouse kill controlers every time. nothing slight here having a controler in an FPS is the equivalent of a keyboard turner in mmos.
