ADs redirecting me.

AvarixAvarix Member RarePosts: 665
Anyone else having this issue while browsing this site? A few seconds after opening the article on My.com taking over Armored Warfare it redirects me and attempts to download a java file. This happened to me last week as well. I thought it may have been something else I had opened, since I had other sites open in other tabs, but this time this was the only site, and tab, I had open.

Is it just me?

Nope nothing for me either.   Sounds more like you have a hi-jacking malware trying to install something else.

Peanuts. I've been redirected to porn-sites, twice!

I agree with the others who say you have some hijack malware. Much of the hijack malware is not even detected by av PROGRAMS. I have had no problems. If it was on this site, then everyone who clicked on the same ad would be hijacked. Assume it is on your side.

This is a similar situation when people complain about lag in the game and blame the servers, not looking at all the connections between them and the game server.

It's malicious ads in this site. It happened to me 3 or 4 times over the course of 2 weeks. I got redirected to a bogus "You have a virus" page, just like OG_Zorvan mentioned above. It's only happened on this site, specifically while browsing the forums. AVG and Malware Bytes scans all show nothing on my system. It's never happened on any other website.

I never had any problems but I use Opera, stuff like this is usually targeted to Internet explorer and Firefox. Well, I did have problems a few years back with firefox but the site is so changed since then I wouldn't call it the same.

I have my Addblock disabled on this site but Opera is told to not accept redirects or open new windows without me telling it to in preferences.

So try another browser, I recommend Opera but Chrome should do the job as well.

I use Chrome with AdBlock Plus. Some ads still get through though.

Have been redirected to a porn site twice in the last week while trying to browse threads on the forum.
Would not mind really, but it was not a very good porn site.

I'm using Opera and I have ABP enabled on medium strictness where it still allows some small ads to come through so MMORPG get's its share of income.

I got redirected a few times 2 weeks ago but it hasn't happened to me since.

Either way it's ads on this site and not malware.

I will bring this up to the one network we use besides Google.  95% of all ads we serve are through Google though and I know they do a pretty good job of vetting out malicious ads.

This is just too funny, came back to this thread to read new posts, got redirected here:
    h t t p : //hook2up2.top/?u=gvdkd0x&o=5emg9u1

Might not be a good idea posting the link, I know, but maybe it can help track down the ad/whatever that  is causing it.

I have shut off one of our two ad networks that we use (besides Google) so we can watch to see if people still report this.  I swear it is so weird that I am on the site all day long 7 days a week and I have never had this happen to me, ever.  They must have some tech that knows not to do this to the site owner ;-)

Trust me, I hate this and I wish we could sell all of our ads internally as this could not happen.  But when sales are slow we have to use networks to fill the unsold space and the layers of companies involved on that end is so hard to control, even for networks.

It is odd how only some are affected. No issue on either my laptop or phone.

I don't do anything different than others have stated previously in terms of AV or accessing the site.

I've never knowingly gotten a redirect from this site. I occasionally get a pop under ad but I can't attribute it to any specific website.  MMORPG.com is always up if my browser in on but when I notice the pop under I always have more than one tab open.

I've never had this happen in the 9 years I've been on this site, but I also use a lot of ways to avoid ads, and redirects don't happen ever to me on any site for some reason (might be some ad blocker I use).

The other thing is it gets around script-blocking tools as well, which I have installed in Chrome to keep from getting things like redirects. It could be something designed with specific variables instead of an all or nothing (  only goes for certain browsers, certain setups, maybe even certain extensions), so that it can still get a large sample without being immediately caught and flagged.

I mean, I've seen where a script would be written to only activate at certain times of the day on a certain number of people per day to lower detection.
The 2 time i got redirected to porn-sites i was on OS X, using Chrome, with Ad-Blocker on.

I am/was using Firefox. It hasn't happened to me since those two times within a week and a half. I don't use any type of add-on or adblock. I know malware is capable of redirecting if it's on my system but I've been dealing with malware/viruses since AOL and have gotten pretty good at avoiding most of it. Not saying it's not possible, but I'm aware of all those things and it only appeared with this site and I haven't had a problem since.

I'm using Chrome, on here daily, and have yet to get a pop-up (in recent history).  I make note of them too because I tend to do computer flushes (3-4 AVs + 2 diff ad checkers) if I see them.  Just a wee paranoid.  But I stopped going to some of the sites like I did in my younger years because, frankly, coders have gotten smart and stuff can just appear anymore even when you don't think you DL'd something iffy.

Same here. There are only a handful of sites I visit and all are generally safe. Amazon.com , npr.org , bank account, and mmorpg.com The games I play are 90% through Steam, and the rest are mmorpgs. If I look at porn it's through my phone and pornhub only, which is generally safe. I don't take risks online since I despise trying to manually remove malware and/or formatting.

My guess is its caused by intelligent malware that monitors what games you play and pops up appropriate ads.

Play RO or TERA, your getting porn.

Play heavy P2W games, you get Casinos.

Play on virtually unknown freeshards of a 15 year old game and the malware doesn't know what to do.

Give em time, soon I'll be seeing Viagra and denture creme ads.  ;)

Just got redirected again and for the first time to a porn site.
I compared the links and it was the same site you were forwarded to.

Just got forwarded to the porn site again.
You can't just click "back".. the thing fills your last 10+ history entries with that site and keeps dragging you back in when you try to leave.

Is this like an issue with this site, if so what I would do...

Use Chrome, or a Sandbox based browser, really helps to prevent hacking on your computer
Install Ublock Origin, to block all ad's

If you think your computer has been hijacked then...

    Run an Anti-Virus Scan
Download Malware Bytes, and check for malware

Check your DNS settings and see if you got a DNS changing Virus, this can be redirected from your comptuer likely, or hardware wise through your modem / router.

Check your professes on your computer, You should know everything in there, anything running or there that shouldn't be?

In General, do not fix java to open java files automatically on windows 10 there are certain programs and bots / web tools that require java, don't fix your computer to automatically execute / run java, don't have chrome or your browser set to do this either as this is what will get you malware, even a Registry Re-write to screw up your system.

Also if you know you have been infected for sure immediate power the computer down, Disconnect it from the internet, and wipe your primary drive (Do not plugin any backup drive with your data, as if you got a self replicating virus, goodbye data on all drives, but instead format / reinstall your OS, which if you have a system configured like mine should take 30 minutes 1 hour max to fix everything with a format if you don't have a swap spare around.

Once your primary drive is back up, put Anti Virus, Anti Malware, update everything, and run a scan on all drives to be sure.

Physically go onto all your other drives and look for files that shouldn't be there if you are like me you should know what everything does every file you got there, and make sure to have it turned on for checking hidden protected files while you do this.
