While you stated the server you were on was small, I presume you mean of low population. Are you not able to form a guild? That has been and always will be the point of MMO's, especially for taking on high end content. I mean, sure, one guy ruined your experience, but I can't even tell you how many times a PUG has done that to people. What makes it worse, is you go on to say that this guy has been known to do these types of shenanigans in the past, yet you still used him in your group in a time restricted event. I can only chalk this one up as poor planning as trolls exist in every fashion and in every MMO.
My friend is now very reluctant to do this raid with me now that he knows the troll will sabotage the run and he usually does it with the troll and his friends.
    that's not a friend lol.

    what game is this anyway
    Something ridiculously small I'm guessing.

As to the OP you only have 2 choices, find a way to make your peace with this individual, beg, plead, apologize, bribe or whatever, since he appears to be the alpha dog of your server.

Or walk away, there is no way for him to follow you to another server or game unless you make it possible.

Well unless you two know each other and share friends in RL which in that case opens up all sorts of options. >:)

I would probably be kinda angry about it. Not sure why they didn't just kick the troll rather than kicking you as well. I am really curious as to what game this is.

This happens in every mmo with raids that require gearchecks etc, Just put him on your shitlist and refuse him entry to anything YOU run even if it means you get left out of his and his guild runs.

Another thing lots of mmos have a harrasment claus and if some guy is targeting you over and over like this report him, keeping in mind how serious this is treated various greatly from game to game.

If the server pop is really low change servers if that is possible, last few posts before mine have some good ideas though ass kissing has never been an option I would be willing to take...even alpha dogs go down eventually and revenge is best served cold.

You don't need to tolerate that kind of bullying, and shouldn't have to tolerate it. But you can't always win. Sometimes you just need to have enough courage to accept the losses caused by leaving the game.

How would he know you switched games, let alone which game you switched to?

    Smells like a 4chan thread.
Make hilarious claims of unfairness happening to you to get people into a rage.

    What is the game?
    What is the server?
    What is the raid?

The whole thing stinks of trolling.

Sounds like everyone doesn't see him as a troll if they still want to play with him.  Even your friend maybe siding with him.  I could understand if nobody liked him but it sounds like a lot of people prefer him to you, no offence intended, just going by what you said.  Either work things out with him, probably through a third party in the beginning or find greener pastures because it sounds like he's not going anywhere and not to many people want him to.

If I had any chance of doing anything to said person, I'd most likely do it. Your social interactions are the same online as if you were walking down the street. You do something like that and you're just a ticking time bomb in society.

OP you could always just tell us the details and let those of us who wish help, help you in your quest to squash a troll ;)

May be a fun MMORPG.com team building exercise!

It is time for developers to design the raid that scales down in difficulty as soon as you kick that idiot out of the team. Then scale it back up when you find a replacement so the match can keep going without interruptions.

Currently, If someone bails then there is an imminent wipe because the gear score is not high enough with a missing person. That is the curse we have to endure with mmos that are based on gear stats and not player skill. Meh.... That's an old and tired gameplay design that needs changing. IMO.

Also, MMOS could benefit dearly from removing a person from your screen and chat if you blacklist them, and prevent them from matchmaking with you on random dungeons/raids.

Now heres the confusing part. You would typically expect that pulling a stunt like this would make you a pariah right? After all, who wants someone in their raids when they intentionally sabotage it by refusing to attack the boss?
Who? Well you for one! That is indeed the confusing part. You complain he has been doing this for year, but still end up in a party with him. Then come here, asking why people still 'party' with him. Well you tell us.

It sucks what the dude did, but let it go. Do not ever group with him again.

I'm guessing that they're brothers and this is just the latest incident of them fighting.  Random strangers can't track you across games, but people who live in the same house as you can.

If that's the case then it would suggest an easy and obvious if some what old fashioned solution...lol

Wouldn't be surprised if he said WoW tbh. If anyone has watched Preach Drama time on youtube, you would know what i mean. The stories of what people do is mad.  Anything from loot drama to sleeping with married couples.

This is why I solo raids.

What are the benefits of soloing raids?

A much harder challenge and far more skill than a huge group of people. You can rely only on YOURSELF, you can't rely on anyone else. Its FAR more challenging than in a group

    No drama at all

You get all the loot for yourself, no ninja looting and you are guaranteed to get a special drop, which means less time wasted grinding raids

You get to see the whole story of the raid, instead of rushing through it

You don't have to listen to people talk to you, scream at you or a bunch of trolling kids
Slightly similar, but if there is a female in voice chat, you don't need to suddenly hear a ton of white knights in voice chat oogling over the female. That is the most annoying shit ever.

    No drama :proud:

It sure is frustrating being the victim of raid drama, isn't it?  Well, fortunately for you, I have a 100% guaranteed infallible three-step plan to avoid being a victim of raid drama or your money back:

    1)  Don't go raiding.
    2)  Don't play games built around raiding.
    3)  Get popcorn for use in those situations where others violate rules (1) and (2).

I remember the non-instanced open world raids of Everquest. Ahh, those memories of bards of racing another guild to a spawn, staying up late to camp spawns, having another guild with hungry eyes cheer on your defeat, and even getting your raid railroaded by a saboteur.

It wasn't a rare raid that those things occurred on. That was ~every~ raid. But those times you won - oh sweet victory.

I am glad I did experience raiding back then, they were some great memories, and I'm even more glad I don't do it any more.

Instanced content certainly didn't fix it. I can't count the number of Mythic+'s that I've tried to run in Legion that have been sabotaged. Ruined the experience for me, for sure, and that's a big reason why I'm not still playing WoW/Legion today. I just vote with my dollar. Maybe Bliz will fix it, or come out with something alternative to do and get my money and time back, but no use crying about it - I just moved on.
