I liked the system in swg, if you wanted to pvp you went and declared, if you didn't want to pvp, then don't. PVP/PVE were on the same server.
I voted PvE only because I'm playing BDO (I know I know it's a PvP game.. ~rolls eyes~) and I'd love it if they did the same thing. The Life skills element of the game has me hooked but if anything comes along very similar but with some SWG elements such as flagged PvP and/or resource gathering like they had in SWG where you had to go out and survey to find the best resources to craft the best gear I'd move on in a heartbeat.
My best experiences in MMORPGs are always related with open world PvP. To give some examples of games that gave me that enjoyment, i can remember, Silkroad Online, Cabal Online, Aika, Archeage, ESO (Cyrodiil and IC).
Couldn't find the "vote" button, but if I had, I'd click "both". My actual game play is PvE, but open PvP makes things interesting: at any point some other player could appear and attack me. This adds to the game experience.

This forum is broken. It is time to move to proboards, because they're broken.
PvE. As a senior citizen my hands and wrist have some arthritis in them so my movement and response times are not what they were. So I cant keep up with the young whipper snappers.
I selected PVE, but that is mostly because I have not a game that does PVE/PVP well in years. It just seems very hard for developers to do both. Also I think I like MMOs for PVE and FPS for PVP.
I would really like to see a game that balanced PVE/PVP well.
“It's unwise to pay too much, but it's worse to pay too little. When you pay too much, you lose a little money - that's all. When you pay too little, you sometimes lose everything, because the thing you bought was incapable of doing the thing it was bought to do. The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot - it can't be done. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.”
A bit surprised that after ~350 votes only 5% for PVP and over 50% for PVE.
Wasn't there another poll about this. Have the results changed over time?

PVE only for me. Devs can't seem to make a game that tries to cater to both without balance issues and it's usually the PVE side that takes the hit when balancing.
I'm not an IT Specialist, Game Developer, or Clairvoyant in real life, but like others on here, I play one on the internet.
And I bet you that a least half of those that choose PvX did so just to appear open minded but really wouldn't care at all if there was no PvP or just as a minor side dish separeted from the rest of the game.
Bottom line, world PvP is something that is really not wanted in MMORPG's and devs should really stop wasting ressources on it.
You want PvP... Go play a genre made for it.
PvP has been a part of MMORPGs from the beginning, just as PvE has. The genre is better off for having both in it.
Also, it's generally not wanted in it's current, standard, form. That doesn't mean that if it was implemented well that it wouldn't be popular. PvP has proven to be a winner in just about every other genre out there, because all the other genres have eventually gotten it right. MMOs will get there too.
Currently Playing: WAR RoR - Spitt rr7X Black Orc | Scrotling rr6X Squig Herder | Scabrous rr4X Shaman
I chose PVE, why because when you make an MMO you want people to stick around...PVE promotes community and working together to accomplish specific goals whether resource gathering or AI Raids....PVP does absolutely nothing but put division and argumentative states into "A GAME" that causes people to eventually leave.
i think players like PVP more, but unfortunately pvp favors hardcore players more than casual players, this has always been a problem with mmorpgs until game developers understand this PVE will always be favored.
reason is simple itemisation, levels difference makes pvping between casual and hardcore gamers a mis-match.
look at fps games why are they so popular, simple reason the itemisation and levels difference arent there making pvp match ups more balance and fun.
I chose PvE although I think PvP has its place. I find it interesting that PvE seems to FAR outnumber PvP, which trails Both as well. Seems like there's a lot of PvP in MMOs -- maybe the PvPers are more demanding, or more likely to spend more?
I'm mostly a PvE person. I just love the stat increases, levels, skills, modifying my character etc. I do like pvp sometimes, but mostly in a system like daoc.
I can't help thinking that the outcome of this poll reflects changes in the demographics of this sites members rather than an underlying change in players views. I suspect that the more vehement PvP players have either moved on or been permabanned.
PvE for the most part but once you get some good gear and high levels you want to duke it out with other players to see how strong you really are sometimes.
90% of the time im Pve .but i do enjoy some of the battlegrounds in EQ2 Swotor and Wow, open world Pvp not for me to unbalanced and to toxic when i play an mmo i just want to chill .
I dont like PvP just to PvP I would like it to mean something to strive for something like in DAoC those who control relics or keeps get benefits or bonuses.

The Vanguard FFA PvP server was the best of both worlds. Meaningful PvE content, made more difficult by the constant threat of a pending PvP attack.
I would really like to see a game that balanced PVE/PVP well.
